Is there a way to tell how me poor dorfs died, I'm assuming that the dead asshole human was the culprit but how can I tell for sure?
Is there a way to tell how me poor dorfs died, I'm assuming that the dead asshole human was the culprit but how can I tell for sure?
The easiest way, is the check the latest reports (the r screen), to see if there was any combat. But old reports/combat logs get removed, so keep that in mind. I am not sure how long they actually stay thoiugh.
shit it was like 2 seasons ago but i guess we'll never know [sp]I bet all me munny it was that fucking human[/sp]
I finally decided to start playing Dwarf fortress today, after a year of being lazy and I have to say, This is the most fun I've ever had while having no idea how to play a game. In the first couple of days, A stray cat adopted my wood cutter, I got the beginnings of a "functional" Fortress going, and a shipment of what I assume are orphan dwarven children appeared with a chaperon instead of the migrant workers I was hoping for. This game is fucking great.
one of us
one of us
How many Dwarves do I need to get killed before I'm officially part of the cult?
How many Dwarves do I need to get killed before I'm officially part of the cult?
An entire fortress. Bonus points if they're killing each other out of cascading tantrum spirals.
An entire fortress. Bonus points if they're killing each other out of cascading tantrum spirals.
I must be doing something wrong then, because so far the fortress is functioning. Looks like I have a lot of work to do.
Don't worry about the downfall; worry about making the fortress great. The fall will happen eventually.
Maybe you'll get lucky and get attacked by a giant sponge. Having all your dorfs get ???'d to death is really something special.
A man can only dream.
It's a sad day, but Giant Sponges aren't invincible anymore, just stupidly strong now with .40 :(.
How does one drain a brook? I build a dam in the middle of it and one side is indeed at between 6/7 and 5/7, but it barely goes lower and actually seems to have increased since it thawed.
I think I have to give this game another go. I tried this game for the very first time some time ago and only played Adventure because Fortress-mode scared me. I ended up wrestling and strangling animals and using their carcasses as weapons against actual enemies (I tossed them with the corpses). I usually died when a bogeyman showed up though, damn those bastards!
I finally made it guys. I was able to generate a medium 10k year old world! I thought it would crash during the generation or saving as all above small sized 10k year worlds have before. But I got it to work. I'm really happy and proud that it did. Sorry if I am spamming up the thread with my world generation crap, but I really want to share this. Here is a pic of the world: [T]http://horobox.co.uk/u/Sax_1414822403.png[/T] Here is a pastebin of the population of the world: http://pastebin.com/g665rFhh And here is the dropbox link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1589373/st/10k%20year%20world%20medium.rar The dwarfs, humans and elfs actually survived this time around properly this time. Oh, and if you are wondering if there is no FUN things? Don't worry, there is over 50 dragons, almost all megabeasts still live.
Am i the only one who finds it really annoying that cave moss starts growing everywhere on the soil layers when you first discover a cavern? I wish you could disable it, or atleast that it doesn't make the floor look ugly.

Horrifying mutants and shroom vodka included.

I don't know if the cavern trees - the fungiwood trees or giant mushrooms or whatever they're called - are multitile like normal trees now, but before .40 it was especially bad because they would grow in your fortress and you had to periodically cut them down. Really irritating when it happened in your depot entrance.

[editline]31st October 2014[/editline] Well this is frustrating, my medium world is stuck at loading coin information when I was going to try playing on it. Has anyone else managed to load it? Nevermind, it just took forever to load it.
Your dam blocks the brook on 2 z-levels, right? If so, then it needs to be less to evaporate IIRC. Channel and spread it, until it becomes 3 or 2, and it will evaporate.
2? you mean the Z-level with the "brook" tiles and the one below with actual water tiles? I'm only blocking the one lower one atm. I already was confused as to why there were brook tiles above it.

oh god a werelizard spawned right next to my entrance and proceeded to murder like 10 and hospitalize 5 to 6 others. My hospital was only just dug out, not even designated :x [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] atleast the human fucker got mauled by a mob of angry dwarves. I do have the slight issue of a lot of bitten dwarves I think... [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] YEP THAT'S A SLIGHT ISSUE [t]http://i.imgur.com/9je7MTy.png[/t]
I really need to try this game again, last time i got stuck with farms, i got them to plant the stuff but later they started saying "Theres no food" and died
What do?
What do?
Wait patiently and hope you're not in an economic downturn.
How strange, I got only two migrants in my first wave, both with fishery related skills, and both of them are sad about being seperated from loved ones (although it aren't the same loved ones). It feels like they're the ones left behind from another expedition and stumbled upon my fort. [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] man and women, maybe they'll form a relation at some point.
What do?
Press q and go over the workshop to see what the kid wants, if he's just sitting there.
also, can I stop my dwarves from cancelling dig orders when they find damp stone? They keep whining because of the ponds on the Z-level above, but nothing special happens when they dig underneath the ponds.
There was a mod that stopped the cancellation and pause but I don't think it's updated for this version yet

Which is really useful after about 50 dwarves or so, so they'll actually be doing something, but it's pretty shitty if you don't have access to your waterways. Y'know, because of invaders, projects, wildlife, heat so high it melts their fat if they stay in it too long...
I also get a shit load of fishers. I don't need them though so I turn off the labor
