Right so for the succession fort, does everyone just want to do the latest version or a mod like Masterwork?
I'm a filthy purist so I do it with no mods, though I have no idea what people in general use so I may be willing to compromise.
Right so for the succession fort, does everyone just want to do the latest version or a mod like Masterwork?
No masterwork, too game changing for a proper succession fort. What about dfhack or soundsense? Dfhack could be considered cheating but its got some cool autolabour features And then theres dwarf therapist, im 100% for that.
dwarf therapist doesn't mess with the game files in any big way so I see no issue in it being used by some and not by some others.
No masterwork, too game changing for a proper succession fort.
I mean it's been done several times. DFHack and stuff is always fine as long as you don't outright cheat.
I'd be down for a succession fortress.
So right now we're just doing a standard fort, no mods. Anyone want a specific biome?
So right now we're just doing a standard fort, no mods. Anyone want a specific biome?
as terrible as you can find
The water must be this bad:
god yes
And thus ended the golden fortress 'Knifeowner' Wasn't dramatic or fun, just FPS death as a result of the river flowing into caverns + I'm not very efficient at killing immigrants and children despite having the qualifications
I thought to myself "Too many immigrants, too much to manage, too much of a hassle to get magma, fuck this, I'll start a new fortress." So I retired my current fortress and looked for somewhere else to settle down, only to find bad locations, so I reclaimed my fortress. The game showed me that message to make me wonder what have my dwarves been doing in this short while I left them, and oh boy. First thing, pressed U. Nobody is working, that's reassuring. Even the soldiers are off-duty doing nothing. Well, whatever, I can deal with that. Next, I press Z, hopefully they didn't end all the food. It doesn't seem so, but the bookkeeper has been doing a terrible job, everything is rounded. The fortress seems empty save a few dwarves outside. Everyone inside is in their bedrooms. The room assignments messed up, nice. So even if the game showed everyone had a room, it did not treat like so. So I had to manually assign every room to empty and then to a owner. Same thing for dining rooms and offices. That took a while but wasn't so bad. Oh look, the mayor decided to give up on his electrum chests, lowering the value of his rooms and invalidating himself, nice. There are clothes all over the place, and even after tagging everyone to hauling they're all just throwing clothes inside the bedrooms. I have no clue where they came from, they easily exceed the thread I left the dwarves with and they are all wearing full clothing. The cabinets in the rooms also messed up. Some of them were clipping with the beds, other with the doors and others simply misplaced. The animals were all unassigned of their pens, and were all scattered around the fortress, some of them way deep in the mines. There are also elves around, from the caravan clearly, but they're not at the depot and instead at random locations. One of them seemingly went down stairs and left a trail of vomit on his wake. That's a thing. The Depot also messed up, and the elf items from the caravan are still there, but hovering over it shows that there are no merchants at the moment. Way to go, they have done a lot in my absence indeed.

Community fracture imminent!
Now you guys make MEN the real and best way. Unarmed combat with low chance of living!
On the plus side, actual combat drills seem to be terrifyingly effective now. I have a squad of dwarves who all got to talented or higher with only one kill between all of them (a Rutherer). Since then, they've thwarted a siege, a forgotten beast and many, many more Rutherers without a single scratch on anyone.

I just crippled a Dwarf Baby. Her life had barely begun and she's already lost the ability to walk, I really should have been more careful channelling in a cavern.
Oh no. No no no no. I came back to DF after somehow forgetting it, never getting a real fortress set up, and finally for once I do, and i'm further progressed than I have ever been. Then I notice that the hallway that contains the bedrooms are one block to the left than they should be and now it annoys me to no end, to the point of restarting.
Welcome to Dwarf Fortress. How many OCD-related anxiety attacks would you like to have today?

An absentminded mistake. It has asymmetric hallways and is one square too large. Beware its mild annoyance!
shit, and i just built my trap room for training too
Welcome to Dwarf Fortress. How many OCD-related anxiety attacks would you like to have today?
I never knew I could care about little squares so much
The starter pack is now out for 40.23 http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=7622
Finally I can start playing the new version. I'm a big noob so I need all the help and plugins the starter pack gives me.
Masterwork is probably going to get a total reboot: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=147276.0
Finally. Been waiting to see when he was going to get around to bringing it to 2014. That's honestly most of what I played for forever.
So im new to DF and i started off an Adventure Mode. I got a quest no problem, but when i go to it in Fast Travel, it shows me where to go on the big region map, but I can never use z to zoom in. Im basically lost in the entire region...what do?
