Slay epic beasts, and become the Batdwarf
I really want to play adventure mode but I don't understand! :v: I know how to fight and shit, but I don't see the goal.
The goal is basically to kill as much stuff as you can before dying. That or raid a necromancer tower. Basically whatever you can think of doing. Slaughter an entire town if you want.
Man that sounds fun. I read that you can become a vampire, necromancer etc? How do I do that?
To become a vampire you just need to drink the blood of a vampire. Necromancer you have to find a certain book and read it, one about the secrets of life and death or something
Can't wait to find that shit. Anyway, my buddy is really hurt and is vomiting all over. He was attacked by two bandits which I just killed, but he is still nearly dead from what I think. How do I heal the guy?

If by heal you mean let him die slowly, then just rest for a few days.

I keep chopping limbs up, this is so fun! [editline]4th July 2013[/editline] There is a way to heal myself I hope?
I shall strike down all my enemies with my mighty snake. [editline]4th July 2013[/editline] I've killed another mamba with my first and am now dual wielding them. All shall fear the snakedwarf.
It's been months since I've played DF, uni has kept me away from it. After this month I'll get a couple of weeks off though so I'll be sure to continue my fort. I don't even remember what it looked like, it's been that long.
Everyone ok with me starting an FP DF steam group? It'll give us somewhere to chat about our dorfs dying.
why not here?
I really want to play adventure mode but I don't understand! :v: I know how to fight and shit, but I don't see the goal.
A fun goal to set is to go through Legends and find one random dude living somewhere in the world, track him down, and kill him. It's really harder than it sounds as you'll most likely have to travel across half the world to get to him. Now that I think of it, there's also quite a lot of threads on the forum about adventure mode challenges
[editline]3rd July 2013[/editline] The boss began to make his escape, so after running out of things to throw, I began to charge after him. Then, out of nowhere, a bolt hit me. There had been a crossbowman on the sidelines of this fight the entire time. I was mortally wounded and the boss who had murdered my pal was getting away. If I wanted to get him, I would have to act quick.
You could have used advanced interactions to rip out the arrow and throw it at the boss.
There's already a Dwarf Fortress group as well as a FP Dwarf Fortress Group.
What are some good looking tile sets?
phobeus (i think thats how its spelt) is good
What are some good looking tile sets?
Mayday and Phoebeus are probably the most popular ones. Personal favorite is Ironhand.
What are some good looking tile sets?
orkle's tileset in the OP
I've been playing on my laptop, though I've yet to find a nice consolefont in Linux that contain all of the necessary DF glyphs... The one I have right now has most of them, except for the glyphs farm plots use. So all of my farms are just empty voids at the moment. Doesn't seem to affect dwarf morale though so I'm okay with it.
Just installed Phoebus and I like it a lot.
I also like Jollybastion a fair bit
Has anyone else encountered a bug where cave-ins will cause rock to somehow heat up and become magma? On my last fortress I was digging away a small cliff and caused a small cave-in, after the cave-in I got an entry into the combat-log "The Miner is caught in a cloud of boiling magma!". Somehow though my dwarf somehow managed to survive with only bruised ankle. Dwarves sure are strange creatures.
I really wish I continued playing with an ASCII tileset. Unfortunately from my experience thus far, they are too eye irritating even with a natural color scheme, one of my eyes noticeably reddened after a while of playing with it. The main issue appears to be in size. Is there a way of using the largest possible ASCII tileset while also being windowed? I noticed that DF does not appear to accept a 20x20 tileset for windowed, or perhaps I missed something. I am currently using the extended lazy newb pack. I am also currently using the CLA ASCII hybrid set, which is pretty interesting.

So I was able to convert a png tileset into a console font and run Dwarf Fortress using that, looks much nicer now.
I figured it out. I believe it was an issue with the fact of my init.txt using the graphics option even when it was explicitly disabled for some reason. And the graphics options were set to default curses
So according to DF, chairs=thrones=seats :v: Why not just say chairs or seats?
I think thrones are worth more
So according to DF, chairs=thrones=seats :v: Why not just say chairs or seats?
Chest = Coffer = Box Coffin = Casket¨ and Flask = Waterskin = Vial I guess Toady thought proper naming conventions were more important than ease of understanding, as he does with most things in DF. And really calling a leather pouch used to store water a flask wouldn't really sound right imo.
So according to DF, chairs=thrones=seats :v: Why not just say chairs or seats?
Merely what they're made of. Portals = Doors (glass is portal) It's probably just due to the fact that I always think of rock chairs as being imposing and grand, whilst I think of wooden chairs being like a nice comfortable dining chair.
What is a standard build when starting a new game? Watching captnduck's tutorial, he advised to build stairways to start mining and building a Mason's workshop, carpenter's workshop, a tanner's shop, a butchery and two craftdwarfs workshop.
