[QUOTE=scratch (nl);41706420]Maybe your fort isn't big enough? Migrant waves only come when the game thinks you had enough time to expand and build up enough wealth since last wave. In the case of mass extinction there will be ONLY the 2 migrant waves, and nothing else. No caravans either.[/QUOTE]
I lasted for like 6 years until I just stopped playing. I had made a full suit of masterwork or close to it pattern-welded mithral plate armor for my one military dwarf, along with a rifle and ammo. Aside from that, I had like gold shit everywhere. Every one of my dwarves had their own 5x5 bedroom and office, and a good sized communal dining hall. Fuck, I had so little to do waiting on migrants I just started literally clearing out entire levels of stone just so I could do shit with the rock. I had so much obsidian it wasn't even funny. Money was not an issue, although for a while I thought it was because I had three liaisons die in a row. I REALLY don't know what the hell happened. I lost my military dwarf to my own stupidity and that was about where I stopped playing.
[editline]4th August 2013[/editline]
It was Masterwork, by the way, but fairly certain that doesn't change migration stuff.
[QUOTE=draugur;41706475]I would totally play this if I can gen a world. I'll get pictures and a story.[/QUOTE]
best chances of extinct civilizations is on pocket worlds the wiki says. You should try making some with a fairly long history and see what will happen. If you are lucky, goblins will dissapear as well :v:
So I started genning a world with max beats and savagery, the world entered a golden age in 370. Fuck.
I had two male dwarves and for some reason one of them disappeared, there's no announcement that he died or anything, he's just gone. What the hell?
you might want to be carefull as there can also be worls where all civilizations are gone, and all you can do then is adventure mode and legends.
But fuck, that probably is like walking trough a wasteland! I wonder if there will be ancient ruins lying around then.

Age of Death
The Age of Death is a time when there are no civilizations left alive. A world that ends generation in this age will only allow games to be started in Legends mode or Adventurer mode.
"The Age of Death was a time after civilization had crumbled completely."
Age of Emptiness
The Age of Emptiness is a time when there are no civilized beings left alive. This is a game state that can be achieved in adventure mode, because everything can be killed in adventure mode. A world that ends generation in this age will only allow games to be started in Legends mode or Adventurer mode.
"The Age of Emptiness was a time when no civilized peoples existed in the world"[/QUOTE]

or try to get this one
[QUOTE]Age of (Race name)
One race becomes dominant in the world, or it's the only race left in the world. eg: "The Age of Dwarves"
"The Age of Dwarves was a time when dwarves ruled the world."[/QUOTE]
with goblins.
I'm trying to do it with Masterwork for more enemies and challenge. I get the age of orc, but dwarves just hang on too well. The last dwarf civ always ends up with like a population of 50 and being at constant war with all the remaining civs. It's bullshit, just die already you little pricks.
you could do it if there are 2 seperate landmasses with the dwarves being on just one of them. Since they can't cross the water it will still work.
This will make having children actually useful to my fortress. Oh god, I can't rely on migrant waves for the endless amounts of slave labour, things are going to take forever and casualties will actually be a problem.
[QUOTE=hobothehero;41705443]Create a garbage dump of one tile and designate all the stone to be dumped.
Items in garbage dumps don't take up any room. You can even reclaim the stone later if you really want to use it.[/QUOTE]
Assuming they are above ground I like to think that the Dwarves manage to stack the stones neatly one-atop-the-other into the stratosphere and just pull the bottom one out whenever they need one and they all fall down neatly.
I fucking hate the grazing mechanic, does anyone have the .exe that searches for [GRAZING] in Dwarf Fortress and removes it?
You can use notepad+ and go through all the raws and replace [GRAZING] with a blank space.
[QUOTE=zombojoe;41711853]You can use notepad+ and go through all the raws and replace [GRAZING] with a blank space.[/QUOTE]
Even better, replace [GRAZING] with [NOFEAR][NOPAIN]. Never underestimate elk again.
With Notepad++ that's trivial to do.
[QUOTE=Lijitsu;41711992]Even better, replace [GRAZING] with [NOFEAR][NOPAIN]. Never underestimate elk again.[/QUOTE]
Replace [BENIGN] with [LIKES_FIGHTING]. Even the crows start viciously attacking everything they see.
[QUOTE=Devodiere;41714782]Replace [BENIGN] with [LIKES_FIGHTING]. Even the crows start viciously attacking everything they see.[/QUOTE]
Don't forget the [PRONE_TO_RAGE:1] tag.
[editline]4th August 2013[/editline]
Oh god a [NOFEAR][NOPAIN][LIKES_FIGHTING][PRONE_TO_RAGE:1] elk sounds horrifying.

I read that as "Make a garbage dump and put as many items as possible in it then un-designate it to see if physics take effect and the items go flying at lethal speeds."
I think I'm becoming a DF player

[QUOTE]Now that the livestock aren't getting weapons any more, the only parts of the under-the-mountains dwarf areas left to do coincide with stuff that'll also be in their outside-to-caverns fortresses, like workshops, so I'm moving on to those. Dwarf fortresses are the last dwarf-site-related part, and it covers their maps, retirement issues and reclaim issues. I also went back and did a few climbing issues still on the table -- there is a climbing skill now, and things like constructed block walls are harder to climb than constructed rough walls (smoothed natural walls can't be climbed at all, at least while we are still dealing with tool-less people). Failing a climb move can be reasonably traumatic, depending on where the ground is. You can still grab hold of walls/etc. when you fall as you could already when jumping etc., but it is more difficult now.[/QUOTE]
I really wish the climbing for enemies was going to be in this update. Having to fight off enemies that can climb over your walls would be amazing. Hopefully dwarves will at least have some climbing ability in fort mode.
I'd love to climb up the outside of towers in adventure mode like spiderman

You climb the tower.
You climb the tower.

you climb the tower.
Seagull strikes your left hand with his beak, breaking your grip.
*Pause*
You slam into an obstacle.
All your bones are broken!
You have been struck down.

There's snow in temperate areas because the game starts at the very start of Spring, right before the snow would melt.
Give it a little while in game and it should melt. If not, then go for the finding a save thing.
