Can anyone recommend any other roguelikes? I've tried cataclysm...
I really enjoyed IVAN due to it's limb damage and brutality, I'd give it a try since it's quite simple to wrap your head around yet challenging in gameplay.
Can anyone recommend any other roguelikes? I've tried cataclysm...
We have a roguelike thread here on FP https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1146642 Personally, I recommend Unreal World. It has a heavy emphasis on surviving in the wilderness and it's pretty much the go-to game if you're into that.
is there a way to start out with a randomized adventurer in adventure mode?
why does removing stairs not work for me? ive tried every remove option but it never works!
why does removing stairs not work for me? ive tried every remove option but it never works!
You can only remove upward stairs and channel through down stairs.
You can only remove upward stairs and channel through down stairs.
so ive got to do a channel? gotcha
Been trying to set up an aboveground fort in Masterwork mod, suddenly dragon raptors arrive and fuck all of my guard pets as well as several of my orcs. One thing i noticed in the gore fest : "The Dragon Raptor strikes the Brewer in the head with the [Cotton fiber shirt], bruising the muscle and jamming the skull through the outer brain!" The bloody thing ripped off the guys shirt and then beat him with it several times until he died. It lodged a pair of trousers in a miner's head as well.
every time i generate a world, i get snow. even when it says temperate. could someone give me a save for a new player to use? ive generated atleast 6 worlds now and i cant get a good spot like the guide says
It's worth noting that 'temperate' doesn't mean always warm, it means that the summers and winters aren't complete extremes
a duck bit me and threw me and my axeman companion into a lake, it kept viciously biting us and we nearly drowned until our crossbowman decided to actually do something and shoot it in the head when i finally got out of the water, i had heavy bruising on nearly every part of my body on a previous character, a duck killed my demigod wrestler by breaking his skull with a bite to the head the ducks on this world are scary
While we're on the topic of birds; giant Peach-faced lovebird is probably the most misleading name in the whole game, should've been blood-beaked murderbird. Because these things will peck the head off your dwarfs without provocation.
How easy is it to make new monsters?
How easy is it to make new monsters?
In theory, simple as it can be. In practice, difficult if you can't wrap your head around it. It's both easier and more complicated than it seems, since it's all just text. The first creature you make will be the hardest one by far, but from what I gather after that it's much smoother going since you know what to do.
Anyone else excited for the next release? I personally can't wait for all those combat improvements
Anyone else excited for the next release? I personally can't wait for all those combat improvements
I am, but I really wish it was released sometime this summer while I still had time to play games. Now I'm going to uni and probably won't get to play much Dwarf Fortress before Christmas. [editline]7th August 2013[/editline]
How easy is it to make new monsters?
Take a look at this: http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/v0.31:Modding_guide You can also check the raws of mods like Masterwork and the ARK project and see how they did it.
I bet the new update gets released about a couple weeks after I make a new fort to get back into DF. Just long enough for me to get invested in the current fort before having to give it up.
I don't have that problem, my forts go so perfectly that they end up dead within a few years anyway, too much glorious fun for the fun god.
How do I unmark items for trading? The caravan's already gone and my dwarfs still dump the entire gem stockpile into the trading depot.
DF is a realistic combat simulator. [t]http://i.imgur.com/KE8yVbn.jpg[/t]
DF is a realistic combat simulator. [t]http://i.imgur.com/KE8yVbn.jpg[/t]
He must be a legendary biter.
How do I unmark items for trading? Just downlaoded the Lazy Newb Pack and I'm starting to follow the Getting Started with Dwarf Fortress book, do I need to configure anything in the Lazy Newb Pack?
Game of the year. (Mod is Fallout 2.2)
Just downlaoded the Lazy Newb Pack and I'm starting to follow the Getting Started with Dwarf Fortress book, do I need to configure anything in the Lazy Newb Pack?
If it is your very first time playing, you could disable invaders, removing a large percentage of fun, but allowing you to better learn how to play.
If it is your very first time playing, you could disable invaders, removing a large percentage of fun, but allowing you to better learn how to play.
Then I'll guess I'll leave it on. Also, do I really need to start somewhere need Flux Stone? I've created 6 world and none of them has a starting area that suits the conditions given by the book.

Another thing you should disable in the LNP is aquifers, as they are a bitch to deal with. Also, make sure you havent got mineral frequency to the highest, but frequent. If you have mineral frequency on max, you wont get any flux.
Ahhh, I had it set to max Also, how was I supposed to know that? Checked the wiki and found nothing on the topic.
There are a lot of things you just have to learn by making mistakes, that's just how Dwarf Fortress is
There are a lot of things you just have to learn by making mistakes, that's just how Dwarf Fortress is
There is no such thing as mistakes in DF. Forgetting to raise your drawbridge or flooding your entire fortress is part of the game.
