New devlog:
Sorry for the delay! There was a bit of a delayed birthday celebration for Zach in Seattle over the weekend, where the two of us wandered around town for a few days. Near the end of the trip, we were recognized by a DF player in a bar, which was a first! Back on the dwarf peninsula, I reintroduced the manor houseish mead hally hybrid places for the petty lords to reside in, and I'm now finishing up conversation and reputation issues surrounding companion agreements to get your role as a participant in the village-village bickering established properly.

what is that sentence even saying i don't speak dwarven
He has added some sort of mutant mix of Manor Houses and Mead Halls for lords to live in.
He has added some sort of mutant mix of Manor Houses and Mead Halls for lords to live in.
I guess it was the suffixes at the end of "Hall" and "House" that threw me off. :v:
I'm sad. I found a vein of Adamantine will digging fairly far down (z level 10, about). I dug one block out of it because I was like, "Oooh! A vein of awesome!" It wasn't a vein. It was a tube to hell. Demons spawn, flew up the tube within seconds, and set my entire fortress on fire. The worst demon to grace the fortress were these spider-fiend guys who webbed entire levels of my fortress in seconds and then were accompanied by demons who flung fire everywhere, so no one could escape. This is the end result of part of my housing areas. My most successful fortress trumped... in just a few seconds. Quite a few of the demons were made out of fire and ash, however, so when a bunch of dwarves tantrumed over everyone dying, they would punch the demons to death within seconds. They'd immediately catch on fire and burn to death, however, so it was very counterproductive. [editline]25th August 2013[/editline] Oh, wow, and to add insult to injury, a goblin siege just showed up while I'm waiting to see how the last of my dwarves live out the end of their days. [editline]25th August 2013[/editline] The mayor, who is the last person alive, has been on fire for about five minutes now, surrounded by ghosts. JUST DIE. [editline]25th August 2013[/editline] He's dead. My Strength has Broke.
In spoiler land, we call those things candy, the circus, and clowns.
In spoiler land, we call those things candy, the circus, and clowns.
You have got to be shitting me, somehow an entire internet community had me convinced that those were what you ACTUALLY found in the tunnels :suicide: Like seriously, I didn't believe in Santa when I was eight but I'm double that age now and I legitimately thought that the clowns were real clowns. [editline]clowns[/editline] Look at this quote just one week ago
Is it possibly to beat the circus?
I meant it like it was.
Oh God, I don't know whether to give you a heart or a :v:.
Well, if I am to believe Space Station 13, if it was a real circus full of real clowns, it would be much, much more terrifying and dangerous.

Doomedfortress the Abbey of Death. The most foreboding name ever. Strike the Earth!
So... Am I just blind, or is the OP missing a link to the actual bay12 DF page? There are links to modded versions, and to the bay12 forums, but there is no link to the download page for regular-ass DF. I mean, I can google it, but that kind of seems like an essential thing to have in the OP of the thread.
I was under the assumption everyone used the lazy newb pack. I mean it comes with dfhack which with good plugins makes the game so much less tedious. Especially in regards to working with dwarf therapist and designating entire veins of ore to be mined.

Are the devs working on fixing the damn problem with Dwarves blocking their own construction site? I hope that comes with the next update, because it makes building walls fucking impossible.
Woah. My volcano fort got attacked by some kind of ice giant fell beast. It got as far as the my rubbish dump then melted. Then an engraver drank a bit of it.
Status on that succession game? Is it even still going?
i want to see someone play a game in a terrifying biome do it i dare you all
i want to see someone play a game in a terrifying biome do it i dare you all
Our succession game, which lasted exactly 1.1 turns, is in a terrifying haunted biome.
i want to see someone play a game in a terrifying biome do it i dare you all
Been there. Done that. Lasted literally 10 ingame days.
i want to see someone play a game in a terrifying biome do it i dare you all
i want to play dwarf fortress but i keep convincing myself that the update will come out soon and my save will be out of date and for nothing
Last time I played on a terrifying biome I lost my soldier to a zombie cow. Got kicked in the head and died despite wearing a copper helm. :v: I got raped by ash zombie immigrants later. No idea if late.
Every good fort has at least one [del]self-destruct lever[/del] Forgotten Beast Eradication Device.
Mine were the caves themselves. I broke the first cave layer and immediately found a forgotten beast in the process of drowning :v:.
I remember a forgotten beast showed up one time that was made of crystal. I thought it was super dangerous so I walled it in. One day out of boredom I broke down the wall and sent my militia after it. I was expecting it's poison gas to kill them all, but apparently it was just steam. Like, it spewed warm steam. My hammer dwarves turned it into dust.
I remember my first FB. I was like, shit shit shit, but then I realized it required water to breathe and it then suffocated on the cavern floor.
Forgotten beasts are pretty random. Sometimes they are unkillable murder machines that poison everything it doesn't mangle in time. Other times they are made of water and evaporate as soon as they reach your fort.

I wish the comic showed a single support beam breaking when he pulled the lever, causing the whole fort to cave-in. :v: [editline]26th August 2013[/editline]
Been there. Done that. Lasted literally 10 ingame days.
I actually managed to survive quite a long time in a terrifying biome once, the thing that got me though was that I forgot to find a grazing area for a cow I had brought, and when it died of starvation it caused a giant undead outbreak in the whole fortress.
New devlog:
Continuing to work through companion issues. You can form freeform lasting "adventure" companionship agreements with unaffiliated people again, provided they want to go with you in the first place. I'm also partially through guide agreements. You can also start as a crony for one of the town lords if you want, which'll let you start right off to work at the price of influencing how other town leaders/subordinates treat you, or you can start off as an unaffiliated civilian of a town or a townless wanderer, in which case the leaders of towns won't include you in their plans at first.
Looks like adventure mode is going to start differently if you want it to.
Damn goblins! They ruin all my fun. Fun meaning kitten slaughtering of course.
