The ???s are when you don't have a stockkeeper keeping precise records, and gives you an approximation of how much you have, 300??? means 250<x<=349, and so on.
Objects in motion are always fucked up, just reissue the order when the plump helmets are dumped somewhere, and all should be fine.
Great now apparently I'm out of food even though it still shows 200? food. Just no plant or meat. Dwarfs are panicking.... Time to rob a caravan.....
Edit
Screw it I'm starting a new game. See if they will plant now
I've been browsing this thread/the DF forums/been looking at DF videos lately. Looks like it's that time again...
There's a new devlog:
[QUOTE]The multi-tile trees fall over now when chopped down by a dwarf. I went with having logs from the trunk segments fall down like projectiles, so you get a primitive sort of animation, and the tree doesn't go anywhere it shouldn't be able to. And critters get a chance to dodge out of the way if they end up in the way. You can choose the direction of the fall for larger trees by choosing which tile to chop, but for smaller trees, it'll just be away from wherever the woodcutter ends up, which you can only control indirectly at this point. I also messed around with the new personalities a bit and taught the new dwarven brain how to stand up again, which has been an ongoing issue. [/QUOTE]
This should be a Fun new feature here. I can see a lot of new players accidentally crushing their starting dwarves. Meanwhile, I wonder what'll happen if a tree is felled onto a building.
[QUOTE=Mysion;42117394]
And the issues of dwarfs ruing to the river. It won't belong before they attract the attention the unread bison and !!fun!! occurs :quagmire:[/QUOTE]
That's why I embark in areas with no water.

I eagerly await designs for tree-based defenses with legendary woodcutters kept on post 24/7.

An entire dwarf family was crushed in the making of this gif. Tantrums for all.
no stop, this isn't the way you kill monsters that explode into poisonous gas

oh my god, I killed her.
it would be a lot harder to tell you were a vampire if you didn't wear crowns made of fucking dwarf bones

But its an antique!
Also, vampires aren't too difficult to kill, especially if they are in a village. They can be bitchy dodgers though, from my experience.

Gunna start a new fortress. Any idea of what I should try to make the goal of this fort? Nothing super outrageous, I'm not the best player just yet.
[editline]10th September 2013[/editline]
I think I'll do a cavern fortress. May change a few things around to get some cavern animals on embark.
[editline]10th September 2013[/editline]
You know what, instead of just making animals able to be brought on embark, I'm going to (attempt to) make my own creatures to bring with me. More 'domestic' animals of the deep.
I played this game a couple of years ago, raccoons killed my dwarfs.
So, I've been messing around with creature creation-- I've successfully implemented a very simple humanoid creature I call the 'hobber.' It steals items, is mischievous (i.e., stealthed and throws switches), etc. etc. Very similar to gremlins.
Trying to figure out how to apply graphics to him now.
[editline]10th September 2013[/editline]
Fuck it, a g will do.
damn, my character can take on several vampires, bandit leaders, and goblins, but one zombie yak takes him down.
that was still a pretty good character though

I once saw a necromancer get run down and killed by camels in one turn.

Well, duh. Camels are nature's most ferocious predators.
[editline]11th September 2013[/editline]
Anyone know how to get an animal at embark? I have
[COMMON_DOMESTIC][TRAINABLE][PET][NATURAL]
Yet it refuses to appear.

I honestly can't say I've seen this kind of engraving before. I guess dorfs have a particular fondness of klepto kobolds who commonly frequent the fortress.
so I think I became a vampire, because I entered this tomb and this mummy is just following me around, and his zombies refuse to fight.
is it possible to have him warm up to me so I can have him join me?

probably not but undead are [OPPOSED_TO_LIFE] so they no longer have a problem with you.

that's pretty cool
I'll have to drink vampire blood more often
I have never
ever
ever
ever
gotten one of my adventurers to become a vampire. I've tried everything from drinking blood spatters on me/weapons/the ground to literally biting a vamp in the neck and drinking blood from the source.
I have no idea what I've been doing wrong.

pick up the blood pool they drop
I'm not kidding, it literally means drink the pool of blood.

Wow, I've done it on accident before from drinking the blood splattering on my guys armor.

This suddenly explains why I have an option to drink people's blood while they sleep, I ended up just fighting in such a way that i get covered in blood and dont have to worry about finding a water source :v:
Meh... still working on creatures for my eventual cavern fortress. But for now, I think I'm gunna try out Masterwork.

If I recall correctly there's a bug where in some worlds you just can't become a vampire. It's pissed me off on numerous occasions, I'll tell you what
holy shit I just cleared out a lair of gloom trolls, and every individual troll was worth as much as one quest, so I was immediately sent off to a fort or whatever.

I've generated dozens of worlds in many different versions of DF. It just never fucking works for me.

If I recall, Toady wants magick and mystical stuff to be randomly generated. So how curses, diseases, spells, etc. work and get transmitted is different per world, sometimes they don't even exist.
Secret project, codename: Biological shield has experienced a problem, limbs too easily detached, and user too attached to it.
Suggestions: Remove empathy from user, modify biological shield to be made of steel.
