If someone could generate a 50 thousand year world world on a small/pocket size world, and anything was still left alive, that would be incredible. Though to survive that small of a world, the civilizations would have to be monumentally tough. Remember that one game of Civilization 2 that that one guy played for 10 years? How every single faction was this incredible powerhouse and they were all so powerful they got stuck in a 3-way stalemate? That's kind of what I imagine a DF civ would have to be to survive 50000 years on a small world.

It's probably possible if you tweak the settings enough. But one problem, I think the max years you can put in, is 10000.
As far as I can tell, according to Legends, that Hill Titan was the last titan in the world and had a kill count of 498 by year 255.
So at least my fortress did some good for the world.

So it broken 4680 years on my laptop, it seems to keep going. So let's hope that it can get to 10k years.

Things are not dead yet, there is still human towns and such.

I've got two cool places in this world: "The Spike of Princesses" and "The Forests of Stroking".
Can you connect several bedrooms together? As in, will the dwarves lock their doors and prevent other dwarves from accessing the rooms behind, or will a dwarf be able to walk through his room on his way to his own?

Dwarves don't lock doors, pretty sure you can have a massive cube of rooms that share doors. Unfortunately the rooms will be counted as overlapping, and I'm pretty sure you'll eventually start robbing dwarves of their door ownership.
Can creatures with [CAN_LEARN] tag gain xp while in your area?
I've got this crazy idea of training a troglodyte army by putting them all in a danger room for a year or so and unleashing my army of grandmaster fighter/dodger troglodytes on invaders when the arrive.

Would having a small corridor prevent that?
[editline]9th October 2013[/editline]
a small corridor between rooms, that is.
Yeah, that should be fine. If you put doors on all the exits to their rooms and even 1 tile separating the rooms, it should be fine.
Rooms sharing doors is no issue at all, though the shared wall might reduce value by an insanely tiny amount. Dorfs really don't care who uses their room as a highway.
So the 10000 year world is currently at 7088 years, and its still working. So it seems that Dwarf Fortress crashes less/generates worlds better on Linux.
A bunch of my dwarfs have been having tantrums and going berserk (I was too slow to build their feasting hall and alcohol went scarce after massive immigrant waves). One of my hunters went berserk and was running around the fortress, shooting anything that moved with his crossbow. Another hunter fired back and nailed him in his jaw, which went flying off in an arc, killing the dwarf. This was, of course, after a lot of the useless unarmed farmer immigrants tried beating at him with their fists.
Also, my administrator died in her bed while she was sleeping. I locked her room and now there's nothing in there but miasma and swarms of flies. I'm going to release it on some unsuspecting dwarfs.

My wrestler bit an emu's lower body and shook it around. Needless to say, it's dead.
Is there any way to keep a dwarf from taking an entire barrel to go pick up a single item? My brewer keeps cancelling his brew task because the farmer is picking up the barrels full of plump helmets and lugging it to his farm to put a single plump helmet in.
Not unless you want to store everything outside of barrels. Which lets it rot.

Can anyone help me figure out why soundsense won't work? I've downloaded all of the sounds and they show up in the sounds configuration but it says Everything (4) here, and nothing plays when I am playing DF
Damn it! 42 dwarfs going strong, but they kept running around with the barrels and my brewer couldn't brew enough drinks to keep up with the demand. Now I'm down to 27 dwarfs and if they aren't dying of dehydration, then it's the other dwarfs going berserk.
[editline]9th October 2013[/editline]
Such is life in the ice fort, Steelgrip, built atop an evil glacier, where it constantly rains nauseating slime.
[editline]9th October 2013[/editline]
So, my legendary miner went berserk. He killed 47 dwarfs single-handedly before the original expedition leader struck him down. Now the expedition leader is the only surviving dwarf, living in the halls filled with miasma and ghosts.

Try deleting your gamelog.txt and running DF again, then make sure Soundsense knows where the new gamelog.txt is and restart it all. Worked for me.
It worked, thanks man.
So my 10000 year old world, became 9300 years. The world is around ~300 MB big. I had to close the laptop down, and so I canceled the world generation. But I am going to look up if I can run DF in text/terminal mode for better speed/less memory usage.
I can upload the folder on my dropbox(probably) if any one is interested.
Here is the link, you can download it as a zip through the dropbox functions or so it seems. [URL]https://www.dropbox.com/sh/34doglc2len2pqt/oKYfcCO1s7[/URL]
I thing I finally got the whole "not starving" thing down. Just one question. In the kitchen tab, where I mark stuff to be cooked or brewed, is red enabled or is blue enabled?

Why would you ever try and avoid fun time?
Is there a mod or something that makes this game playable for people who absolutely HATE the UI?
[QUOTE=Solomon;42480562]Is there a mod or something that makes this game playable for people who absolutely HATE the UI?[/QUOTE]
No, the UI isn't moddable. Get used to it :>
