I misread this as "honking the fortress," and thought you had a ghost haunting everyone by squeezing a clown horn.
Didn't know I was in the SS13 thread

Is DF updated? [editline]12th October 2013[/editline] I was waiting till the next major update to get back into it again. Gnomoria isn't cutting it for me.
I drew a quick sketch because of you
Amazing.
[t]http://puu.sh/4Olaj.png[/t] okay dwarfs, okay. Also my first goblin siege. my fort is completely blocked off from the outside world. I think one of my militia captains is stuck outside though.. this is going to be fun. [editline]12th October 2013[/editline] [t]http://puu.sh/4OltQ.png[/t] Now I know what came of my captain. At least he took two of those fuckers with him.
[t]http://puu.sh/4Olaj.png[/t] okay dwarfs, okay.
Haha is that an artifact strap-on? Kinky
[t]http://puu.sh/4Olaj.png[/t] okay dwarfs, okay.
Oh dearie me, that sounds painful. In a good way.
Is lack of Iron Ore some kind of bug? I strip mined 3 layers and didn't find anything. Then, used DFHack which showed that I only had 4 kinds of ore.
Is lack of Iron Ore some kind of bug? I strip mined 3 layers and didn't find anything. Then, used DFHack which showed that I only had 4 kinds of ore.
Isn't that just a regional thing?
Yeah, unless you're talking about one of the veins you mined that was supposed to contain iron not actually containing iron, then it's possible that the area you embarked in just doesn't have it available.
Is lack of Iron Ore some kind of bug? I strip mined 3 layers and didn't find anything. Then, used DFHack which showed that I only had 4 kinds of ore.
Did you set the mineral scarcity to everywhere or frequent? Iron ores - haematite, magnetite and limonite are all sedimentary, though haematite can rarely be found in igneous extrusive layers. Bituminous coal and lignite (fuels) both also occur only in sedimentary layers. I'm pretty sure that most flux stones are also sedimentary, barring marble, of course. I have a theory that setting the mineral scarcity up higher increases the likelihood of you scoring igneous layers instead of sedimentary layers, which means you are less likely to get iron ores. It also means that it's quite rare to have iron on a volcano embark and such, for they tend to be igneous. Good news is that if you find iron, you'll likely have flux and coal. Bad news is that it's a bitch to find iron sometimes. Frankly, I don't consider it cheating to use DFhacks prospect tool on the embark location selector, if you're using it to see what metals you can expect - the game used to tell you anyway, and it's a pain embarking 50 times to find iron ores.
I re-embarked and now have iron. Also, god damn this was annoying. They also killed one of my dogs.
Giant thieving animals are dicks. They just kill whatever is in sight and strip their corpse naked and run off screaming like a bunch of assholes. And they will always come towards your fort because they want to steal shit, so they always start fights 3:
Toady speaks out against the church in today's devlog:
I suppose it's strange but also kind of typical that I felt a warm glow seeing the high priest impaled on a pole right in the temple grounds where I expected it. There's been quite a bit of work getting elements of rampaged-upon cities to reproduce properly through successive realizations through their different levels of abstraction, so that a city destroyed far away can be loaded and reloaded correctly with damaged buildings, and that a city destroyed nearby can be offloaded and reloaded with the same buildings affected. Also lots of stuff with army pathing, camping and guard patrols. And amazingly enough, the work leaves basic development on track. Zach's doing much better, though he'll still be laid up a couple weeks.

Toady speaks out against the church in today's devlog:
So, I don't know if I missed something or whatever, but what happened to Zach? I saw in the last devlog stuff about the hospital, but I don't recall any mention of what happened exactly.

Hopefully he'll recover just fine.

the cook actually also died =( and the recruit did too forgot to check their combat logs
Damn you im sitting in class and now I cant stop laughing
the cook actually also died =( and the recruit did too forgot to check their combat logs
So the troglodyte managed to throw a recruit into himself so hard both him and the recruit were blown apart on the chef, whos entire body was broken? Thats metal
I can't tell if the troglodyte was hardcore as fuck or dumb as fuck
I can't tell if the troglodyte was hardcore as fuck or dumb as fuck
Maybe a little bit of both.
I'd just settle with dorf as fuck.
Werecreature attacks are always so hit or miss. I just had a weregoat attack my brand new fortress before I had enough population for a military. I burrowed everyone inside and watched it run around chasing farm animals knowing only having two soldiers with no experience means only a few things can happen, 1) it's way more powerful than I expect and kills my two soldiers with ease meaning I will need to send the whole fortress in a bonzi charge (fun is immediate). 2) the animal is engaged in a close fight, one soldier possibly dies while the other is certainly bitten (worst case they are both bitten. Fun will come at a later more inappropriate time when I've forgotten about the bites) 3) or it just gives me a real spook and decides to transform back into a human and run off the map before reaching my fort thankfully it was the last case. I'm actually pretty comfortable with werecreatures since I rarely actually need to fight them, but I think I might set up a drawbridge so there is no possibility of it entering and I can just wait it out.
Hey could someone update me on what the dangers of shutting yourself inside your fort is? Like assuming you have underground farms and a well?
