You can chain him up, but except for accidental caging you'd have to convict him of something first. [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] At least I'm pretty sure you can chain him up.
Is it possible to manually convict someone falsely?
Not without a crime to convict them of.
Somehow get him to kill a child and accuse him of that.
He doesn't have to be guilty, you can just convict him of killing anyone who's gone missing
How missing is "missing"? Will it require molecular deconstruction or is taking them out to the woods and dumping them there enough?
Dangit this thread has made me want to start a new fort. Time to try out a desert fort i guess.
I REALLY need to get into this, what's the easiest (and most graphically pleasing) way to do that?
Secone, that fort entrance reminds me of a fort entrance I once built:
Put some cages and make a pitting zone over the volcano, then pit the trapped things in. I remember one time in my fortress a huge bunch of Asp's came in and were hanging in the Fortress near the farm, I walled them off then caged them, oh boy venomous snakes.
I got a plan, I will just use the Dfhack exterminate him command on a random child and THEN accuse the mayor of doing it. GENIUS [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] WHY WONT THE DWARFS STOP MAKING CHILDREN [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] Mayor just banned every product in history again, going to drown him.
I REALLY need to get into this, what's the easiest (and most graphically pleasing) way to do that?
The Lazy Newb Pack is a good way to get some of the best tilesets and best utilities right off the bat, the most updated version of it from what I can tell is here: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=126076.msg4250423#msg4250423 Pretty self explanatory, click the first link in the thread and download the .zip, unzip it and then just run the Lazy Newb Pack .exe. To find the tileset you want the most look in the thread under Graphics and click on the link of each tileset and judge from the screenshots which one you'd like to have, then go back into Lazy Newb Pack under the graphics tab and install that tileset. You're then for the most part good to go, just hit the Play button and begin creating your first world! As for learning gameplay, http://dwarffortresswiki.org/ will be your answer for almost all of your questions, there's also a very newbie-friendly and informative book that was published that has some really nice illustrations and so forth here: http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920022565.do It's about 16 bucks for the ebook version and you'll get all future revisions to the book for free, with the new version of DF coming out in hopefully a month or two it'll surely be updated with new information. Good luck and remember Dwarf Fortress' motto: losing is fun!
so, then It's been some time since I've played this game but I never cease to giggle at things latching on firmly to eyes. [editline]21st October 2013[/editline] my next goal is to build a fortress - open topped to the ground above (with walls around the opening, though) and have an artificial geyser in the fort's middle open courtyard is it possible? we'll find out
Beware of the flying things
Does anyone have a really clean tileset that a newbie like me can use? I'd be very grateful.
Can someone give me an explanation of masterwork as well as how much it changes everything Can I mod a game and have the save file still compatable? (say, masterwork?) [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline]
Does anyone have a really clean tileset that a newbie like me can use? I like obsidian better, but I cant stand the text. Phoebus sometimes glitches my text, however.
Does anyone have a really clean tileset that a newbie like me can use? I'd be very grateful.
this one is my fav http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=104261.0 it's an ASCII tileset too so it requires very little work to install [editline]hi[/editline] i normally use the ASCII color set in the OP though
Can someone give me an explanation of masterwork as well as how much it changes everything
It changes, quite literally, everything. It is a compilation of mods, which included dozens of new workshops, hundreds of animals, new races to play, civ overhauls, etc... lemme go a bit into detail: First off, you've got some basic changes to dwarves themselves. This creates caste systems. You'll still have your simple Peasants that go into whatever path you want, but you've also got Guild-Peasants, like the Merchant's Guild, and they are all better at certain things. Legion dwarves and Guardian dwarves may be better suited for your military, masons guild peasants as masons, and so on and so forth. If you want full detail on workshops, embark pets, magic, and a few other things check the 'Dwarf Manual' that comes with the download. Inside the Launcher. Its a bit dated, but useful for some things. You can also play as Orcs or Kobolds. As orcs, everyone is basically at war with you besides 'evil' races. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Drow, Gnomes, etc. will be at war with you (the latter of the two being added races. Drow are underground elves, gnomes are a late-game trading race with advanced tech). As kobolds, you are shit. Literally. All you do is steal stuff, build above ground villages, and hope to Christ you can manage to steal a pickaxe before you end up starting a siege on accident. Also you've got Automatons, Ice Giants, and Warlocks as late game invaders. There are also a few dozen other siege races you can turn on, but are off by default. It also makes quite a few things harder, such as traps will be less effective, longer plant growing times, smithing taking more metal, etc. If you need to know anything else, ask away.
Can I mod a game and have the save file still compatable? (say, masterwork?)
No. Masterwork changes too much for that save file to still really 'work.' It has new races, titans, etc. that all effect generation and how the world should work, along with hundreds of new animals and plants.
so apparently creeping eyes can vomit (which is weird because they have no mouth, I assume they vomit out of their one giant eye)
so apparently creeping eyes can vomit (which is weird because they have no mouth, I assume they vomit out of their one giant eye)
Which is also weird because they don't eat, the fuck are they vomiting? [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] Something's not right. Why do I have so many dwarves?
at least he went down fighting
I'll fuck him up.
this one is my fav http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=104261.0 it's an ASCII tileset too so it requires very little work to install [editline]hi[/editline] i normally use the ASCII color set in the OP though
Looks beautiful. Almost as if it was sprites. Thanks. :D
welp, the fun got in somehow lets see if i can win this [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] 2 goblin ambushes no stop [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] yea nope [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] killed all the goblins and 2/3 of the fun
Okay so first masterwork game Ima update you guys on how this goes I am also going into this blind. Yay.
It would be nice if you could drain water to the edge of the map underground. I'd suggest having a tunnel set up under where the water collects that brings it to the map's edge. Add two pumps ground level to pump it back up and funnel the water towards the edge using walls.
the smartest of ideas
Fucking thing takes forever to worldgen
the smartest of ideas
No, the smartest idea is to channel that water for practical purposes, like, drowning migrants or something.
No, the smartest idea is to channel that water for practical purposes, like, drowning migrants or something.
water isn't enough - you need a lava moat or a tremendous drop.
water isn't enough - you need a lava moat or a tremendous drop.
Can't recover the loot with magma, and drops leave a very slim chance of survival. The best combination is drops and then drowning to kill the survivors.
[t]http://puu.sh/4WXyB.png[/t] Purgeunholiness. okay dwarfs.
Can't recover the loot with magma, and drops leave a very slim chance of survival. The best combination is drops and then drowning to kill the survivors.
i don't need their damn loot all i need is the pleasure of watching their mangled, broken bodies at the bottom of a pit struggling to survive alternately, make a giant sponge trap
It feels so good actually coming into this game after 2 years of lurking and a dozen failed attempts.
