My dwarfs are pure mean, man. I love this training room!
[editline]26th October 2013[/editline]
I am also thinking of starting adventure mode.
What should I drop my points into? How to do?
Put all your points into reading, of course! You'll be unstoppable.
Why do vampires immediately reveal themselves when you call them out on their shit.
"YOU'RE A VAMPIRE!"
"Yep your right. EVERYONE WITHIN A FIVE MILE RADIUS, LISTEN UP! I'M A VAMPIRE, THIS GUY FIGURED IT OUT!"
They probably know you have proof or something, seeing as you're a guy holding sword and shield who just burst in through the door and crawled under everyone's legs to scream at a specific guy at the very very back of the room.
I really hope we get the new update around the end of November or some time in December.
Depends how long the testing takes I suppose.
Can you carry cage traps that have creatures(goblins,Other things) around now?
Is there a mod of some sort that removes sewers or something from world gen, or at least some type of thing that makes it so that I don't get quests to kill vampires and when I arrive on location there aint jack shit there, and I can never find entrances to the sewer or wherever the fuck those bastards are hiding?
What's a good way to know when the next major update gets released?

I just stopped traveling and moved to the right a bit and this eagle commited suicide
although I have a suspicion the log just didnt tell me one of my companions shot it.. There is an arrow right next to it.

I once ended up getting lost in the sewers under a human settlement only to find that an entire civilization of frost giants had set up shop in a single, one-tile wide, flooded tunnel beneath the town marketplace.

I once was looking around the catacombs for a wereduck or something in a human town, and ah... I got ambushed by a group of... well, I can't remember. Whatever that's not important. Three of them were Swordmasters, two Elite Bowmen, and about eight spearmen and a Spearmaster.
They fucking sodomized my companions and I managed to strike down the bowmen, but a swordsmaster decapitated me in one single go.
Okay, so if I am going to do adventure mode, I am doing it with your guys orders. Tell me what to drop my points into. Otherwise, I am going to become a swordsdwarf that likes to swim
I propose a good amount of points in biting.
Be a living zombie.

What if I became a necromancer
I heard that was possible somewhere
You have to have the reading skill and find a necromancer book in a necromancer tower and read it to learn necromancy
The Hidden Anal Village...
Okay then, let's go with that Fortress name.

It has webs
Well, time to completely seal off my surface access and become a sustainable underground community.
So I downloaded that fallout mod and I'm gonna play it up on the ride to Athens tomorrow.
So, after a careful setup, and an embark zone in the rather unscathed Central American coast, we begin.
"This place, Pinnalongus, is your home. Defend it!"
I feel good things from Pinnalongus.
Wait, does that mod have Fortress Mode?
You're worried about the webs? I'm still stuck on "made of sand" and "has wings."

I also had an underground forgotten beast, made of sand with deadly blood.
Killed that easily though. They are damn easy to kill if they dont have webs :V

Well I just stumbled into a group of coldblooded i mean kobloid sword-asses mistakenly while I was examining a building in my hometown.
What an adventure, i'll tell you!
also now I am dead

I usually just randomly accuse people of being a vampire. So I see it more like when you're playing hide and seek with a kid and vaguely know where they're hiding so you just shout "I found you, you can come out now!" and they come crawling out from behind a bookshelf. It's like that but instead of playing hide and seek I'm being eaten by boogeymen, stumble into someone's house, ask to stay the night and then accidentally scream "HEY, UR VAMPIRE" and they just give in on the spot as if they were expecting to go this way eventually, they couldn't stay hiding forever.
It would be nice if you could drain water to the edge of the map underground. I'd suggest having a tunnel set up under where the water collects that brings it to the map's edge. Add two pumps ground level to pump it back up and funnel the water towards the edge using walls.
To drain water underground dig to the edge, smooth the stone there, the carve fortification, water will now drain off map
Some motherfuckin vampire just scratched me in the head and managed to shatter my skull and bruise my brain. First fuckin injury in that fight too. I had crushed his weapon hand so he dropped his knife, and I went to go try to pick it up so he couldn't and he fucking scratches me and I die.
On a brighter note: I started asking for service and if it was to go to a town to kill a vampire in a town, when I go to the town I ignore the shit out of where the top left tells me to go and ask for service in that town and they will tell me to go to certain buildings and now I don't get pissed because I can't find the thing because the top left of the screen lies. Like this one gave me the name of a leather working store and I would go look at the signs and view the description and the first one I did it to said it was the right store (dont remember the name.) and I went inside and got scratched to death.
e:I fucking love this game sometimes
I just started a new person, get quest immediately and go to this bandit camp, first person i spot is the one I gotta kill, I proceed to cut both of her hands off. Then I just stab her in the chest and slash her in the chest and she bleeds to death. Then I just get brutally murdered by her posse after they finally get in the fight.
The thread keeps making me want to get back into adventure mode but I'm wary as I'm currently not running with Orkel's fix and I'd rather my pointless deaths were caused by something other than having the world's weakest skull
How do you guys make Dwarf Fortress look so nice?
How do you guys make Dwarf Fortress look so nice?
You sort of get good enough after losing and having dwarfs dying countless times.
Depends on what you mean by nice. If you mean the tilesets, then... eh, tilesets. If you mean the stories, those are singular moments that occur in many hours worth of playing. If you mean designs, it comes natural after you get the hang of everything.

I probably mean the tilesets, I went on the repository and all the pictures are white and pink lettering but everyone here seems to use cool isometric tiles.
Oh, the isometric bit is Stonesense. That's a utility on its own. The tilesets themselves vary, your best bet is to download the LNP and pick one through it. There's also a number of them available on the DF forums themselves, although the most popular ones I think are in the LNP.
