Plus tilesets do a lot to make the game more accessible to new players. [editline]31st October 2013[/editline] I just know when someone releases a mod to make the UI something that isn't awful people will complain how it isn't true DF or something
Why don't the dev(s) (can't remember their names) make some fin of graphics for the game, like an official tileset instead of ASCII ?
Because they want to make their insane fantasy simulating everything ever game before they move onto non-essential stuff
Decided to try my hand at this again, generated a new world - Orid Mudung, the Universe of Portent. My embark site is pleasantly named "Atolrakust" aka "Foundtomb". v:v:v
I was never happy with any of the tilesets, so I decided to be a purist.
Nothing wrong with people wanting to play with actual graphics. I don't use ASCII at all, though I can get the gist of what is happening if not too much is going on.
I'm aware, I played with a tileset when I first started. Playing without a tileset just makes my imagination work better so it's a little disappointing when other people playing the same game don't see what I see.
A little disappointing when tilesets prevent people from visualizing what is happening in vanilla DF.
Would you prefer people to never play DF because they can't wrap their head around the ASCII? [editline]31st October 2013[/editline] Sorry, that's kinda mean. I'm in a bad mood and that kinda struck a nerve.
I think he was confused with the bubble bulbs, not the corpses
Yeah, that's what i thought was the main thing about the picture. Just to be clear, I have played with the ASCII graphics, I just don't like them and i have never seen bubble bulbs before.
>The Human Axeman bites The Goblin Pikeman in the third toe, left foot, shattering the nial and bruising the skin through the shoe! >The Human Axeman latches on firmly! >The Human Axeman shakes The Goblin Pikeman around by the third toe, left foot, and the severed part sails off in an arc! >The third toe, left foot, is ripped away and remains in The Human Axeman's grip! Jesus fucking christ.
I mostly play Dorf Fortress for Adventurer mode Is that bad? I guess you can only find bubble bulbs in mountainous good areas. So the polar opposite of where most people embark. [editline]31st October 2013[/editline]
I mostly play Dorf Fortress for Adventurer mode Is that bad? Visualizing the fights in Dwarf Fortress is the most hilarious thing ever. Before those silly gobbos killed my kobbies, my Headkobold had her... groin cut off apparently. Her groin was missing. How does that even work?
[t]http://puu.sh/4WMAk.png[/t] [t]http://puu.sh/4WMEi.png[/t] This isn't even the most graphic fights i've had, it was just one where I killed the guy in three hits.
A groin is an actual area of the body, it's just a different word for crotch. So, painfully.
I know it is, but how do you cut off a female's crotch? It just sounds weird.

I'd say that Serene is probably the #1 safest, along with calm, then mirthful and wilderness are about the same. Joyous Wilds can have unicorns, which can fuck shit up if provoked. They are safer than other savage areas, though. Good areas are great for the sun berries you can get though, that booze man, that booze.
This would look much better if i hadn't lost my tablet
This would look much better if i hadn't lost my tablet
I'm having miley cyrus flashbacks from that angle.

You get basically everything there. Have to be careful about where you leave refuse and corpse stockpiles, though... I learned that from experience a few times.
I like a good Joyous Wilds + another biome intersection but I am terrible at generating maps.1 There never seems to be enough evil + good, and even then, the good embark sites I find always tend to be neutral. Of course, I should do the dorfy thing and just settle the fuck down, even if there are no metals at all. Make my fucking living selling unicorn bone bolts and pottery.

Whenever I come back, I spend around 3 to 4 hours alone picking the perfect embark location.

Total bitch until I found out where the evil biome started. Unfortunately that was after I dug my entrance, so sieges were PRETTY INTERESTING.
[t]http://puu.sh/5549I.png[/t] Yep. Sounds about right.
Okay, I'm gunna make a new Kobold Camp. I want you guys to decide what I do first. Also, I shall name the first batch of Kobies after whoever wants to be named. ALRIGHT, whats our first move, guys? Embark is all set and ready to go, got a good number of Giant Jack Rats for foot, a set of tough leather for the main soldier, along with some spare iron machetes because I know I won't be making any more anytime soon. Also a decent amount of food. Also the fortress is called Facepunch. Also Lijitsu you're already in there because [img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img] [editline]1st November 2013[/editline] Also, that is a river in a gorge about 12z levels down

Burrow right under the lake, and build a little outpost on that island for fishing. Then get to work building upwards to make a grand palace of wood. This should make the elves hate you, but the elves are as pathetic as the kobolds so who cares. The eventual goal should be to make a giant wooden kobold, one that will last generations and inspire baby kobolds to be the best little thieves they can be!
