I'm on my first ever fortress and as far as I can tell its going ok however I have an absolute abundance of stone which is aestetically pleasing nor convenient to stockpile. Would mass producing blocks lower the amount of stone? Right now I am putting floors in reasonable places to use up stone but its so time consuming and stops be progressing. I kind of want to destroy excess stone as fast as possible.
I usually make a small stockpile of expensive stones near my stone workshops, so my dwarves will be more likely to use those for goods and such. The rest I just set to hidden so I don't see them. There's not really any quick way to get rid of so much stone.
Okay so one of my miners (spouse of another) died of thirst, even though I had plenty of alcohol. The other miner had a tantrum; I lost control really fast.

The stone can also be undumped so you can use it later if you need it.
I turned on the in-play AI for site leaders (just humans for now), coupling the stuff goblins and bandits were already doing with some of the considerations from world gen (like site disputes and the qualities of leaders). The result for a medium world was an addition of three dozen village raids right at the outset, on top of the existing goblin invasions, including one corner of the map where the village leader worshipping Mirding Fairwaves, the goddess of the sun, the sky, light and day was fighting with the leader of another village that worshipped the Scraped Webs, god of night and nightmares. Normally their shared culture can keep a lid on that sort of thing, but the opposition was so fundamental and the faith so strong that it didn't even take any generic land disputes to set off hostilities. I guess while I'm working on this part, I should be happy to accept a bunch of villagers beating each other up for their zealot leaders as our randomized version of an epic battle between light and dark. In any case, direct player participation in such trouble should be coming soon.
FUCK that sounds AWESOME
FUCK that sounds AWESOME
I expect full-blown Holy crusades next update. Make it happen, people.
I'm having problems with a dwarf, he's been in a strange mood for an entire year and is demanding silk cloth, and only silk cloth. He's collected probably close to 50 pieces of silk and every time some is available he runs over and picks it up then never uses it to actually build something with it. How exactly do I make him finish his work? I really need a trained tailor like him to produce cloth to stop the UristMcNudists from shattering each others skulls.
Either a glitch or he's still looking for more silk cloth..
Pretty sure he's glitched at this stage, just killed a megabeast with a web attack and even all that web didn't satisfy him. I can't find a way to kill him because he isn't actually going insane and dying of dehydration like most strange mood dwarfs. Only way I could kill him would be to lock him in but it'll most likely kill all of the hospital patients in the same room as him.
Wall him off, I guess. Forget about him in the walls of your fortress. Also he might not be dying because he could be a vampire ?
Could be a planepacked instance, have you got him assigned to any burrows?

Uh, he just walked off as if he didn't consume a years worth of silk and I don't have a single burrow currently set up. Strange. Anyways, this fortress is riddled with bugs - I'm playing with Masterwork mods and my military will kill everything within a pretty large radius of where I station them but refuse to attack anyone if I order them to. My hammer dwarf was staring at an elf who had a javelin lodged in their head from about 6 tiles away and refused to finish it off until I set him to station rather than attack.
Multi-level bedroom design
Useful geometric shape, well utilised in the fortress.
Yes, this design is superior to any other design.
That better be dug on a layer full of bauxite.
heil armok
I rated it a [del]bomb[/del] spanner.
I home it comes with showers installed.
I home it comes with showers installed.
"I'm telling you Urist! The Elves are behind all this, we must cleanse them to help save the Dwarf master race!"
"I'm telling you Urist! The Elves are behind all this, we must cleanse them to help save the Dwarf master race!"
Dwarves are obviously the master race. HOW CAN ANYONE BE ABOVE THE MIGHT OF OUR BEARDED WAR MACHINE?
Dwarves are obviously the master race. HOW CAN ANYONE BE ABOVE THE MIGHT OF OUR BEARDED WAR MACHINE?
...By being normal-sized? By Armok! These gangly heathens must all be cleansed!
Desolation of Smaug spoilers: [sp]Jesus christ that last scene with Smaug in Erebor. A mighty dragon getting knocked around by a flood of water and assorted flying objects? an abundance of thrown weaponry? Waterwheels and various nefarious devices powered by them? A critical lever pull? Floodgates and channels for molten metal? And through the middle of the whole damn thing, a hell-bent dwarf with a fucking wheelbarrow. Dwarf Fortress may have been conceived as a Moria simulator, but Pete Jackson's Erebor is so dorf fort it hurts.[/sp] And now to pass out because I did the double feature and then stuffed my face like a hobbit at denny's.
If an artifact is made using the bug that created planepacked, does the item increase in weight if more stone is added?
Plane..packed?
If an artifact is made using the bug that created planepacked, does the item increase in weight if more stone is added?
On the wiki page for artifacts it says "Note that material and weight calculations still apply, so an artifact sword made of dingo bone or an artifact breast plate made of gold are not going to be overwhelmingly powerful." I'm inferring from that that yes, items on artifacts increase the total weight of the item.
And now to pass out because I did the double feature and then stuffed my face like a hobbit at denny's.
The hobbit hole though, oh and the pumpkin pie shake. Denny's out did themselves on this one.
Plane..packed?
Planepacked. Basically the center of the universe that leads to another dimension full of non cheese items.
So I finally got around to downloading Masterwork. Wow this is complex. Is there any way of getting the tileset to be the normal rectangle ASCII, because right now the tiles are square. [editline]13th December 2013[/editline] Also, can I turn off DFHack?
