I just sent my woefully untrained and un-equipped military out to deal with a tigerman siege while i locked everyone else inside.
Last to die was my militia commander. Most of his bones broken, unconscious...the enemy was just weak enough, and his defence just strong enough, that all they could to is bruise him through his armour.
They spent about five months beating him, and several passed out from over exertion, before he eventually died of thirst.
kept putting off making a militia

i really like this fortress so it will be taken back
[editline]6th February 2014[/editline]
i didn't know i had to give them weapons so i spent all the embark points on war dogs
[img]http://i.imgur.com/v53TbwN.png[/img]
the dwarves were basically useless because they had no weapons so a mule ended up doing a majority of the work

You should have sent him first to make most of them pass out before you attack :v:
I was feeling pretty good about myself when the first siege was almost entirely captured by random surface cage traps
The next fuckin siege is 100 strong all mounted, with 10 war dragons, lost my jovial mood pretty quick.
Needless to say, was not prepared, everyone died horrificly
[editline]9th February 2014[/editline]
Also Just got a gemstone coffin from a mood, one of the coolest artifacts I've gotten

Sounds like you amassed too much wealth for your own good.
Remember: Drawbridge first, wealth second.
A massive trap hall is also welcome
I just threw down enough cages on the surface around my entrance to break any siege, plus a trap hall and separate trade depot, all drawbridged

I remember the fort where my second siege was all goblin bowman on tamed War Cave Dragons.
I was awestruck by the fact that I managed to turn it back with a trap hallway and one of the most badass axedwarfs I've ever seen.
Then a single dragon that was KO'd early in the fight woke up and slaughtered all of my looting civilians.
[quote=Toady One]Finally got around to people getting fed up and cancelling agreements. They give you a few warnings so you know what their issues are, but they can eventually leave your group, for example, if you ask somebody to guide you to a location and then sleep for a few days. Something went terribly wrong during testing... I was checking out local agreement cancellations, so I was walking through a jungle in tile view, along with a monster-slaying crossbowman from a nearby town who knew where a cave was. We happened upon some animals that ran away, and I found myself shot five times bleeding to death. I think my guide decided to jump into the conflict on their side, and it was a "no quarter" fight since animals take wilderness encounters seriously. I'm not quite sure why the guide did that. I was a warrior with a nearby village, so it could be that he took a neutral view of the animals and had a bone to pick with the village, and so chose them over me when they ran for their lives. That's fixable, but I'm not sure if it was the issue. I'll have to put in some more diagnostics, I guess, he he he. [/quote]
Haha, that's silly.

I think he means terribly right.
this one ghost keeps flipping beds and only beds
dude has some bed problems

Make a pit with nothing but beds at the bottom. Make sure you forbid Dwarves from sleeping in them.
You now have a pit of sharkbeds with which you can use for dramatic execution.

Maybe he is struggling to find a good blanket to wear for his full ghost-getup. Import some blankets, damn it.

Avatar fits.
50 chicks just hatched all at once because my dwarves are too busy cleaning up stuff from my reclaimed fortress to take the eggs
holy lag
[editline]13th February 2014[/editline]
also i just noticed that ghost dwarf keeps flipping the same bed over and over again
[editline]13th February 2014[/editline]
also one of my dwarves threw a tantrum and somehow lost her arm (no combat log)
no idea how
[editline]13th February 2014[/editline]
ok pretty sure she ripped her arm off trying to flip a kitchen
[QUOTE=Yumyumbublegum;43899062]

But
what
no
but its
what
god I love Dwarf Fortress
ghosts keep possessing people and are making them throw tantrums
the first thing tantruming dwarves seem to do is try to destroy my entrance drawbridge, succeed, then make themselves and everyone on the bridge fall into lava
Get rid of the ghosts?
[QUOTE=Lijitsu;43900635]Get rid of the ghosts?[/QUOTE]
yea i am
ghosts are showing up faster than I can get rid of them
Oh right, you even mentioned you were doing a fortress reclaim. Good luck with that, they're usually not worth it because of how everything gets thrown around.
[editline]13th February 2014[/editline]
Plus, y'know, your current issue.
yea usually I don't reclaim for that reason but I really liked the terrain gen on this fortress
I'll probably post it later when it gets further along
If you know the forts going to need a reclaiming try to move important items into lead bins (they won't move when reclaimed)
I promised myself that I wouldn't install DF on my computer that I got on Xmas until the new update came around, but every blog post makes it feel farther away.
I need this new update in my life.
so I trapped a forgotten beast in my crypts

Try and flood the volcano into it.
Feed it nobles until it falls asleep, then kill it with soldiers.

Looks like you have a tomb guardian. Lest the goblins decide to raid the resting places of the dead!
[QUOTE=Lijitsu;43903815]Militarize the ghosts.[/QUOTE]
And in due time, you'll have a One-eyed Jay that died of a concussion because it got flipped so much.
