Once again I am baffled by this game. When I enter the menu where to select the type of crucible match to play, it looks like this.

First of all, why are there massive red triangles around some? Is that purely for looks, or is there some type of reason for them? And second, how come I can't see that red circle in the corner? I read that it shows your cap of crucible marks (turned legendary marks), but I've never gotten legendary marks in Crucible matches. Is there a reason for this? :saddowns:

The red triangles means they are Taken King playlists.
You dont get Legendary marks from crucible anymore.

well one is alpha build and one is post 2dlc + huge expansion build a year after the game released
it's not that complicated, things have changed, you don't get marks for crucible except for the daily playlist and the weekly featured playlist

the game has changed a lot over the course of the year so you cant resolve all of your issues and confusions by googling them

Yes, I understood the alpha image already. A lot of things are confusing and not obvious to me outside of this. I do something in the game and it's not explained, and I try to figure out why, but nothing happens. I thought it'd be fine to ask. Sorry.

Its totally fine to ask questions, but for stuff like legendary marks, you can put your cursor over them as well as look at them at vendors to see how you can get them. It also shows what activities give you legendary marks upon completion. Other than the borderline nonexistant vanilla story, basically all the game mechanics are fairly self explanatory. If there is anything that really confuses you, feel free to ask here, but see if you can't figure it out first for the future.

I forget exactly where, but basically here are all of the current ways to get Legendary Marks:
15 per day from Daily Heroic mission
15 per day from Daily Crucible gamemode
most of the time there will be a special crucible gamemode where you get 10 marks per win
10 marks 3 times a week from the Heroic Strike Playlist
A couple of vanguard quests in the Taken King expansion
Dismantling new legendaries
Now these can be used to purchase both legendary and exotic gear, but its not the only way to get them.
Legendary gear is important to get you up to 280 light and beyond. You can get higher level legendaries from a source of things, but exotics are special items that you can only equip 1 of (1 armor, 1 weapon) that usually start at 280 or 290 light.
Legendary gear can be rewarded from rank up packages (reaching a new rank in Vanguard, Crucible, or any of the factions), from engrams, as end-of-activity rewards, and so on. Exotics are sold by Xur who is only in the tower on Fridays and Saturdays, as well as random rewards from stuff like the Nightfall, the Raid, etc., and certain exotics can only be awarded through tough quests (Boolean Gemini, all 3 exotic swords, Touch of Malice, etc.)

This is super useful information, thank you so much! I knew a little bit about it, but not that there was a Daily Crucible gamemode. I'm not so sure which one is the daily one though. It doesn't appear to say if I hover.

if you go to the regular map screen with all the planets, in the bottom left corner it will have all the special activities

i did a back and forth run from the barrens to the buried city and back
its really pretty easy if you have a ghost shell, the issue is that you cant buy a relic iron one so you have to get it randomly
i did it in 4 hours without a ghost, then it took me 30 minutes on the moon for the solar sword with a helium ghost

Shaxx sells a relic iron ghost shell, but you need to be rank 2.
