Do you HAVE to beat Crota to get Word of Crota? Or can you just get it randomly throughout the raid? I got up to the part where you kill the deathsinger, and all I got were shitty shards.

Pick up Preadyth's Revenge and just sit back and watch a point in the iron banana. Eventually youll piss someone off bad enough that they want to counter snipe you, at that point move to a different point, rinse and repeat.

Any of you gents clarify something for me? I've not played since the game launched and i notice weapons have a Upgrades to max damage of Year one on them, but.. it's also the weapon damage upgrades accross the right side too? I'm just wondering if it does anything if i have no DLC?

You'll have to use etheric light and get all the individual damage upgrades if you want your Year One™® guns to have 365 damage
Sorry my PS4 isn't plugged in at the moment so its a little hard going off my memory, i think it was a Weapon perk called Ascend? The way it read made it feel like if I got Ascend it ... wouldn't do anything without having Dark Below/HoW?
upgrading the damage nodes upgrades it to 300 / 331 damage
ascending it upgrades it to HoW/Year 1 max which is 365

I don't believe you can ascend your weapons without DLC. I'm not actually sure. If you don't purchase the DLC you shouldn't have to worry because you'll still be able to get weapons to 331 attack.
you can ascend without the DLC because you can get Etheric Light from the Nightfall and Iron Banner

you can't ascend weapons to 331, only 365
you need etheric light to ascend old weapons and armor from whatever damage/light level they are now to 365 attack or 42 light
you can get etheric light from nightfall and iron banner (which you dont need dlc for), prison of elders, and trials of osiris
for exotics you just need an exotic shard, some weapon parts, and some glimmer, no etheric light or dlc required

You can ascend guns without upgrading them, but that'd be a waste of etheric light.

I think I'm just confused.
Currently, all non vault of glass weapons max out at 331 (vog at 300)
You can use an etheric light to bring that value up to 365.
With exotics, you boost them using exotic shards instead of etheric light.

Damn, I haven't played in a while and thought i read somewhere that you were now able to upgrade VoG weapons to 331. But I guess they realized that fatebringer and vision were too good already
so, my friends and I tried vault of glass for the first time yesterday.
couldn't even get the door open :v:
any tips for keeping the sync plates synced besides "don't die"?

shotguns are your friend for blowing away minotaurs, and the smaller adds are no issue

Only the praetorians can take control of the sync plates.
Also you dont have to stand on the plates all the time as long they are yours. Just dont let the praetorians touch them.

We know that much, but we're still not very good at killing them fast enough. The spire gets really close to being finished, but inevitably someone dies and the whole thing comes down before we can take the plate back.
We're on PS4 btw.
