Yes, the Dreadnought belongs to Oryx. From what I can gather the Cabal sent one of their warfleets to destroy the ship but seeing as they love using pretty fucking powerful munitions (I.E. planet destroyers) it might be a good idea to stop them.
Not that it matters but I would rather leave the Cabal to it tbh :v
it doesn't really make much sense but Bungie hand waved it away. The lore reason is "there are still secrets that we wish to learn" or something dumb like that.

Unless I'm misunderstanding and the Cabal are attacking Oryx's drednaught and we're defending the ship from the Cabal.
I'm just happy they found a way to insert the Cabal into the expansion. They're the most interesting of the factions.
I'd hardly say Cabal are the most interesting, but they are horribly underrepresented, with all the focus going to the Fallen and Hive.
In gameplay, however, jesus christ. I don't think TTK's new Cabal dudes are going to be any less of a bunch of gigantic and annoying bulletsponges than the current lineup. I'm waiting for the reveal of a dude who is literally just a 15 foot tall jetpacking phalanx.
imo cabal are the least interesting
I like Cabal the most because they're cool grounded military-type dudes that use their expy Space Marine bigness and bolters to roll over everything without relying on all that mystical darkness incomprehensible-to-us-puny-humans magic bullshit that gets real stale by the time you reach Mars

I'm going to guess that it's one of a few scenarios, my biggest guess being something like this:
> We have intel that the cabal are planning an assault on the armory of the dreadnaught. They allegedly found some superweapon and are hellbent on getting their hands on it, given they're risking a lot by pissing off Oryx.

If they get their goods, they're going to leave us behind to keep fighting. Upon their success a majority of the dreadnought remains untouched and Oryx continues unchallenged, and now the Cabal have some crazy weapon with the unholy ability to harness the darkness itself. Who knows, they could even gain some semblance of oryx's 'taken' controlling power

I've always loved the Fallen and the Cabal, both factions have some very interesting lore.
I think the Vex are pretty cool.
They look cool and all but their lore is a complete mindfuck.
There's the exo stuff mixed in with the vex stuff too
