The quest is bugged, you're not supposed to do it until TTK is officially released, when it does just repeat the quest again to get all your loot

[sp]Oryx explicitly states he doesn't want to 'exterminate' everyone he hadn't taken yet, opting just to take them. They're definitely not dead, just stripped of their will and controlled by his powers. I believe the devs even talked a bit about the whole 'lacking control of themselves/their will' thing when talking about how they move and act[/sp]
I didn't realise it was $69.95 Australian for the Taken King. I mean, in retrospect it's obvious with Activision involved but still.
