Is there some kind of "how to" worth end game content? What should I run? What items do I need? I feel slightly lost.

For starters, you should tell us where you are at right now. Ideally, you would be running the nightfall 3 times a week with 3 relatively high leveled characters, and doing the raid (Kings Fall) at least once per week, and you should be on a fast track to end-game. If you aren't even remotely there yet, run level 36 vanguard strikes and Heroics until you raise your light level.

Holy shit, that Restorative Mind vex mission is the ultimate noob stomper strike

So many retards during the boss fight get impatient and try to grab the core not realising they can't actually carry it back because the shifting barrier thing is still blocking where they need to carry it to so they're awkwardly just jumping against the barrier waiting for it to move

Or they huddle /together/ behind a pillar for cover while trying to take down the Goliaths. Seeing two players congregate behind cover trying to snipe (instead of splitting up) only to both be killed at the same time leaving me with the "LAST GUARDIAN STANDING" message is frustrating

Or, get impatient when the boss is low HP and focus on the boss ignoring the very killable adds resulting in us whiping and one member pulling their ghost out leaving the mission

I had the exact same happening to me yesterday. I'd huddle behind a pillar and they would both congregate around me. So I jumped away to thin the herd of enemies by splitting up, and the fuckers followed me.

The nightfall for tonight should be proper bullet spongey since I believe that mission is the nightfall

In fact, I'm not sure that strike will ever be the nightfall since it's a Playstation exclusive isn't it?
I can't see how they could make it the nightfall until the exclusivity is up.

How does Exotics in this game work? I found the ipad looking thing on the wall in the tower and looked at the blueprints, and I'm assuming you buy them from there?
I tried googling it but I can't get a good answer.

The Exotic Kiosk in the tower is for you to rebuy Exotics you own. Or spend Legendary marks on new ones.
You can only equip one exotic armor piece and one exotic weapon at a time.
You can get exotics from Xur, Engrams, Strikes, Crucible and Raids. (And one or two bounties)

Prison of Elders chest has a pretty big chance for an exotic the first time you do it every week;

I have just enough cooldown reduction on my melee ability that when holding those arc orbs that open doors like on restorative mind I can infinitely smoke grenade stealth myself and run around with them, it's so hilarious watching teammates fight through hordes of shit while I metal gear solid my way across the map and open the next area.

[/QUOTE]I don't think you understand that high impact and range shotguns with shot package and range finder are not fixed and still a huge issue in PvP. There's a reason a good majority of people still run with them, because until those two perks are removed from shotguns, as well as blink, it will always be broken.
