some unashamed dorky sincerity Morrowind helped me make sense of being a third culture kid. it hooked me because of my own personal background, but i also think that's because it was imaginative and lifelike in the way it represented its people. Morrowind gave me sort of a see-spot-run tutorial in how to think about people and culture at an early age and probably gave me that impetus going forward. i got sucked into learning about its fictional world and by extension the real world. i think if it hadn't existed and i'd have cultivated different interests and my life would have been a lot different going into university and afterwards. so definitely some rose tinted glasses but i think there's also some fundamental truth as to why that is, not just for me but for plenty of people.
i can't play morrowind because of the lack of fast travel
the lack of fast travel is part of what makes morrowind so cool tbh. seriously, building your character till you can do this is incredible: mage build best build

You just have to plan your level ups right and make the right spells or potions. Which is weird. People give Skyrim shit because the player could do everything (which they really can't skill-wise unless they spend shitloads of time training each school then legendary-ing them) But in Morrowind there weren't any restrictions on guilds or anything from what I've played. I was a shitty thief (because I rolled a warrior char) but I was still able to go through the entirety of the Thieves' Guild without specializing in things like security, and if I did all I needed to do was train with trainers. This applies to what I've played of the Mages Guild as well.
The 'limit' you have as a character in Morrowind is the early levels. Once you hit the mid-game you can p much do whatever you want, especially because of alchemy.
skyrim is potential not fully recognized oblivion is potato faces everywhere morrowind is just old and nostalgia
Remove the main quest in Skyrim and it'll be alright
Remove the main quest in Skyrim and it'll be alright
To me, the main quest isn't really a main quest in Bethesda games, it's more of a guided questline that's supposed to be the main attraction to a themepark.
Do people actually like alchemy?
Do people actually like alchemy?
It's boring as hell and poisoning people sucks, whether by weapon or by reverse pickpocketing, but at least I get healing and invisibility from it.
Daggerfall's combat is somewhat more interesting since it's a little bit more 'active' (and by that i mean you swing the mouse around instead of just clicking) and the hit graphics/sounds are definitely more satisfying. Not to mention you definitely hit more often. Only problem is you're pretty much immobile while fighting, and lol good luck trying to use a bow.
Also you dont have to charge up attacks. You just hold down the attack button and swing the mouse fucking everywhere. It sounds fucking retarded, and it kind of is, but it's super satisfying imo. Already said it once this page, but it's my favorite combat system in the series. It also helps a lot that the dungeons are super fucking atmospheric. Hearing all the sounds of all the nearby monsters, along with that brooding music, it's super intense at lower levels when you know most of those monsters could tear you apart if you're not careful... and a few could even if you are. It's just too bad they're mostly way too large, it gets old after the first few of them.
It's just too bad they're mostly way too large, it gets old after the first few of them.
If only someone could figure out how to make them dungeons a lot more smaller.
I could never force myself to play Oblivion. It just feels like it's trying too hard, with the big storyline and all that held back by clunky combat and pretty much everything else about the game. Skyrim, on the other hand, kinda comes to terms with its own mediocrity and that's pretty charming.
So there's this animu-haired witch named Esmeralda whose only voiceline is "eat lightning" as said by a 14 year old girl in my game for some reason, living in a shack near Riften. The waifu mods seep in when you least expect it.
disable it's the only solution
Apparently she's from this, which makes approximately zero sense. She seems to have nothing to do with the advertised "wizardy house in Morthal!" part of the mod, she's just a random barely functional waifu companion. At least her hut is kinda nice. edit: actually looking at the description she's been removed since so that's cool in other news, this is kinda cool but what the hell is this description
I prefer Morrowind and Oblivion because in those two games I don't have to worry about triggering bugs with basic movement. In Daggerfall you can clip through the world without trying and in Skyrim you glide over the ground every other time you land from a jump.

And of course with both games you can achieve super speed and jump even without exploits, so just running around in the end-game can cause some weird unwanted craziness. However out of the three I remember the movement in Oblivion bugging out the less. Although Oblivion probably has the worst movement of the 3.
Oblivion has always been my favorite of the three. Morrowind is too past my time. I've tried playing it multiple times, but can only get like 2 hours before losing interest. While I like Skyrim, I also think it's missing some of the charm I think Oblivion has. Don't get me wrong, Oblivion is a bigass bag of flaws. From the very poor enemy scaling, the main quest probably being the most boring of the three, and somewhat floaty combat, there's just something that makes me love it. There's something I find charming about walking potato people and fact that the game has 10 voice actors. That and it has really good side quests. The guild quests alone trump all of the side quests in Skyrim, imo. It's probably nostalgia. It was my first non-Nintendo rpg. But that doesn't stop me from playing through it every year or so.

Did it unarmed at level 3-5 and even though it was a huge pain in the ass doing the 3-person fights, it was still more enjoyable than the fucking companions, the closest thing Skyrim has.
i want to play oblivion so bad right now ahh every quest has so much heart in it, i miss that in skyrim [editline]17th August 2015[/editline] also Oblivion blades > skyrim blades any day of the week, baurus is cooler than all of the wannabees and the dovahkiin combined
I recently played the Thieve's Guild quests in Oblivion and Skyrim, both for the first time. I much prefer the one in Oblivion than the one in Skyrim. The one in Oblivion felt like proper thieves. It also had a almost Robin Hood-esque vibe since it was mostly based on stealing from the rich and wealthy. It also ends with[sp]you breaking into the Imperial Palace to steal an Elder Scroll so the Gray Fox can change history and go back to his normal life.[/sp] The one in Skyrim felt a mafia that just used the name. The guild pretty much runs Riften and a lot of the quests have you frame and extort the citizens. That and it feels less secret since everyone knows where the guild's base of operation is. I also hate the ending:[sp]In a nutshell it's, kill the old leader, "sell" your soul to Nocturnal, and you become the new leader.[/sp]That's so much more flaccid than Oblvion's.
To be honest, each TES has its own good and bad things, I like skyrims mechanics way better then oblivions, especially archery. But I liked quests in oblivion a lot. I haven't played morrowind yet, but im sure morrowind has its good and bad things aswell, I just wish they tried to get as many good things from each game, and try to make an amazing TES with it.
Now all that needs doing is a redesign for the dungeons so they're not fucking impossible to navigate.

he's so regal looking
The reason I could never get into Daggerfall was because dungeon crawling is hell in that game.
