Even after trying to mod it and play it, I still can't get into Oblivion. The quests and factions seem awesome but everything else about the game is a nightmare. Combat and movement are awful. Leveling is awful. The skill system is awful. I like Skyrim so much more because it's so much simpler and therefore easier to get into. I like the skill trees and perks so much better than whatever the fuck Oblivion was trying to do. Any ETA on when Skyblivion will be done? I want to experience Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood and Mage Guild but on Skyrim's engine and with Skyrim's mechanics.

It's just uncanny how awful Oblivion gets if you don't play it when it was released. Even if Skyrim is lame, Oblivion is ten times worse. I can pull through the entirety of Morrowind despite my hatred of all those old ass clunkfest games, but Oblivion is still just outta my league.

Holy shit, I'm frothing at the mouth. Nehrim was amazing for a total conversion, I can't see what blood magic they've worked on skyrim
I'm sure this get's asked every other page but can someone help with my load order? I get a crash as I try to make a new game or load.

Get TES5edit. Open it, check the message log and you'll find out ez pz what makes your game crash.
i haven't replayed oblivion in a couple years but really the only thing that was that awful was archery and potato faces but that's what everyone complains about.
personally i most preferred the skill / levelling system (minus enemy scaling) of oblivion the best - it was a good mix of the "true" hardcore RPG style of morrowind and the simplicity of skyrim. it was a nice middleground that enabled your character to do some cool shit that made you feel a bit more powerful than in skyrim.
skyrim makes the folly of only making your character feel powerful through the quests and combat skills without realizing that combat isn't really what makes your character feel powerful. yeah, so what, i can swing a weapon and kill someone in one hit, or shoot a spell that kills one or two people in one hit. big whoop. so can half a dozen other enemies (dragon priests) in the game, doesn't really make me feel all that special. especially because 90% of what you do in the game is smack dudes in the face with weapons, gets old quick.
in oblivion and morrowind, your power comes not from the combat, but the noncombat shit you can do. in oblivion the biggest thing i adored (not exaggerating, fucking loved it) was acrobatics and athletics skill. seems like nothing, right? wrong. level up your acrobatics enough and you can jump across water. while it has few practical impacts on gameplay, that sort of little addition makes your character feel so much more amazing than just someone who can smack somebody in the face really well. you can jump from building to building with ease, and if you fall from some crazy height, who cares? hardly any damage. you can sneak and stalk people from rooftops if your sneak skill was high enough. athletics made you fast and quick, and your stamina hardly drained meaning you could leap all over creation smacking people in the face without a care as they desperately chase after you.
in morrowind, i already posted the vid earlier of the jump spell. the spell and magic mechanics in morrowind, especially non-combat oriented ones, did so much to make your character feel powerful and amazing.
the restrictive movement in skyrim, comparatively, makes it feel a bit more dull and flat. every character feels pretty similar in combat. what i'll give skyrim though is it made archery actually enjoyable.
I recently downloaded a mod off the workshop where a modder made 'adjustments' to characters. So on my new Khajiit playthrough, I sneak better and can jump 20ft up in the air at a single time. Not only has it made bow/sneak combos that much better, it reignited my love for the game again. I am hooked. Like my 4th Skyrim playthrough.

the trouble with skyrim's progression is you can only make a guy so tough in pure stat terms before it just becomes meaningless wank. like you can't one hit kill a guy three times over or have armor so good you take less than 0% damage. boiling things down to combat is like RPG heat death
Okay so I know I'm going to get bitched at, but is there a mod that casualizes Morrowind's controls to be more akin to Oblivion? Namely the spells?
I have a feeling I'm going to need to spell and I prefer just pressing a button and shit happening.

Brings back fond memories of the compatability patch hell that is F:NV modding, can give this a shot:
TrueStorms.esp
ClimatesofTamriel-Interiors.esp
CoT-WeatherPatch.esp
CoT-WeatherPatchSnow.esp
TrueStorms-CoT-WeatherPatch.esp
Supreme Storms - CoT Version.esp
CoT-WeatherPatch_SupStorms.esp
TrueStorms-SupremeStorms-CoT.esp

honestly morrowind is not that difficult to get into - just practice your spells while walking and rest once you run out of magicka and you'll get to a high enough skill in no time that they'll hit nearly 100% of the time.
morrowind is just kind of a game where you have to put a little bit of work into it (sort of like planning your character for Oblivion or tabletop rpgs like DnD) and when you do it'll feel that much more rewarding
that said there's plenty of mods that casualize the experience a bit

Morroblivion.
Seriously though Morrowind Code Patch can enable Oblivion style casting as well as mods for magicka regeneration.

I don't plan my Oblivion characters and I've never played DnD, so this is a bit of a problem for me. The most thought I've ever put into an Oblivion character is "okay which weapons should I use? fuck it let's do unarmed (or whatever)"
Either way I'm determined to fucking beat this game.

like with many older games, you really only enjoy them if you played them when they came out, or around that point.

This. Oblivion was epic when it first came out. Loved the lore, the factions, the missions, the main quests, the cities, etc. I will never forget the moment I came out of the sewers and saw the lush green and bright world that was Oblivion. That was back in 2006-07 I believe, it's obviously a pain to play now, mainly because NPC interaction is so awful.

NPC interaction is the least of Oblivion's problems.
So when is this remake going to be in a playable state because I'd love to play through Daggerfall again. (/fully for the first time)

It's the best part if anything!

so whats the essential list of mods for oblivion, I havent played it since i wanna say 2008-2009 and i really wanna relive at least the main quest.

I'm going to pretend it's real, because I like the idea they made a dungeon generator with a ton of unreachable areas, and decided it was fine as long as there was a maze connected to the entrance.

I'd be okay with dungeons like that with Clairvoyance and the ability to drop "breadcrumbs".

I remember hearing about someone in Daggerfall who trained up all their languages as opposed to just combat. Walking into dungeons basically became like walking into a town at that point, I actually think that's pretty neat.
I'd be okay with dungeons like that with Clairvoyance and the ability to drop "breadcrumbs".
Mark and Recall exists but it'd still annoying as hell to find quest objects.
And breadcrumbs begin to become unhelpful when every corridor looks exactly the same and you'd placed a crumb in every corridor.

and yet people think the dungeons in morrowind and oblivion are complex and then complain about skyrim's dungeons
fuckin retards

I had a hunch that that one person who said "Daggerfall's dungeons can be as big as the newer game's world maps" was right.

Oh. Well then.

FCOM.
It's difficult and very annoying to install, but end result is absolutely amazing. All them new monsters and items.
