Is oblivion worth buying? I really like the recent Bethesda rpgs and i want to play more of them. I tried playing morrowind but it was a nightmare getting it to work on my computer and it felt way too dated to be fun for me, i didn't really give it a fair chance due to all the technical issues though.
Have you played Skyirm?
Oblivion has better gameplay than Skyrim but obviously the graphics are not that good.
So a lone wanderer in iron armor wanders up to your gang's fort. "Ha, easy gold!" you think, and you call your friends to take the warrior down. Suddenly, he shouts at the top of his lungs, sending two of your buddies flying and opening up the heavens themselves to strike you with relentless lightning.
Those last moments of your life would be utterly terrifying, think. :v:

"When it comes, die boldly or die swiftly - for die you will."
Ironically from a Dragon MtG card. :v:

I think the quests (and perhaps the music) are better in Oblivion, but gameplay is slightly worse in Oblivion. Both main quests in Skyrim and Oblivion are pretty boring though.
There are no like sourceports I need to be using for this game? Just plain the game from the TES website?
There are no sourceports but the best prepackage you'll find is from here: http://wiwiki.wiwiland.net/?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN
Follow this if you are having any performance issues: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/General:Playing_DOS_Installments_under_DOSBox
I had tons of fun in oblivion, but I bought it when it came out. Just get a graphics mod or two to start then add mods as you encounter annoying bits.

I'd say Skyrim has the better gameplay but I prefer some of Oblivion's mechanics more. Only thing Oblivion's got going for it is than the quests are some of the best in the series and it's a nostalgia magnet.
What character level/skill level(s) do you guys think represents an "experienced" adventurer in Skyrim?
Probably around level 30 is when you're well rounded and experienced, and level 60 is basically apex.
Anything variably above that is when you start getting into that whole demi-god range.
I'm overpowered as shit already at level 30. Can't wait to see how utterly unfair I'll be at level 80.

I somehow already managed to get to 100 in Heavy Weapons (two-handed). I'd make it legendary but I'm too busy killing the fuck out of everything.
I've played a bit more of the Dawnguard questline now and it just sucks. Why couldn't I just kill Serana and take the scroll (or just ignore it) as soon as I see she's a vampire? I hate vampires and I even went there under the guise of being a vampire hunter.

I like Serana but they really kind of forced you into teaming up with her. Bethesda can't seem to decide whether they want things to be open-ended or a railroad.
I like how "dynamic" she seems to be. Not sure about her personality and it's annoying when I'm talking to someone she'll just walk through us and starting pushing us about, but I like how she kind of walks around and explores the environment. And when you talk to her she has more animations (pacing, doing stuff with her arms, etc.) than just staring at you blankly while rattling off her dialogue.

I'd get it. I have played far more Skyrim, but god damn Oblivion has some of my favorite quests in a video game, definitely worth it just for them. They have actual soul and character, something that I feel a lot of quests in Skyrim were missing.

One of the reasons I could never kill her if I was given the option, is how happy she seems if she gets cured of her vampirism. She never really gives you any hints that she enjoys being a vampire and you never see her feeding. Makes sense that she wouldn't like it if she was forced into it by her cultist parents.

Also, [sp]you ostensibly have to be raped by a Daedric Prince to become a pure-blooded Vampire Lord, so that could effect someone's perception of the whole thing.[/sp]

She is the only character in the entire game they actually tried to flesh out so not too surprising that they want you to play the entire dlc with her as a follower.

I agree, and I did exactly that. Still, choices. Make every obvious path or solution a valid one, y'know? :p
making something open ended is hard as fuck
for example theres an option to kill my follower and I don't really want it to be there because my mod is now useless after you kill him

jesus christ I thought the elder scrolls was like scared of shit like this

Well, Molag is the prince of rape and domination and it involves "offering" the women to him, so...
I kind of wish we could kill Daedric Princes. He'd be the first on my "make 'em fucking dead" list.

As long as they're subtle about it I guess Bethesda doesn't mind including that kind of shit. The ESRB and the other ratings peoples don't seem dedicated enough to read the in-game literature.
there is full frontal nudity in daggerfall
there is full frontal nudity in daggerfall
We are aware of this and pixelated boobs aren't nearly as bad as simultaneous rape, torture and murder. :v:

there is a sexual themes notification. it's going to take a lot of make elder scrolls an adult game. now if you see it, then it would probably be an A-rated game

Yeah I know that but I didn't expect that.
It's like people calling me "The King of Ass" on facepunch, and then posting a video of me fucking a nice ass.
you just don't expect that
I like Serana but they really kind of forced you into teaming up with her. Bethesda can't seem to decide whether they want things to be open-ended or a railroad.
I kind of liked how it turned out with the DLCs, dawnguard is more or less linear whereas dragonborn gives you that whole island to explore.
wait what
in god of war (that ps3 game I was talking about) you kill everyone except Hera or Athena who you fuck
Bal has always been kinda rapey so idk why you think mortals were just joking when they named him that lol
no no no it's not a joke
like sure i recognize him to be the king of rape but i wouldn't expect them to actually right a book on the guy raping someone
[editline]10th May 2015[/editline]
say if in the game Azura is called "Eater of Babies" and then there's a book no one reads where she mutilates babies and eats them

...Maybe we should just change the subject.
Hey Pastaspace, you've always been good at making crazy-ass boss battles, how would you go about killing the Daedra?
