I think sometimes people forget that BGS isn't some huge AAA developer. The largest dev team they've ever had on a game was Skyrim's team of 90-100, and before Skyrim they literally worked out of ZeniMax Media's basement.
They have their own studio, or at least their own floor of the ZeniMax building, and a larger team now so that coupled with vastly superior consoles as a base to build from, it's safe to say that their next game (provided it isn't cross gen, which I doubt) will be a huge step up.
I'm not a fan of it at all. It just looks like HD textures pasted on still blocky looking models and architecture, and really destroys the spirit of the original games IMO.
Plus some textures are still somewhat low res, so that looks wierd compared to suddenly really high res textures next to it.
I think the job of completely overhauling the world of Morrowind is better suited for Skywind.
Or a proper mod that isn't just a mashup of random outdated texture mods when there are already much better alternatives if you're willing to put in the effort to download them individually.
Some of the mods in MGSO really suck, and I like it and its fans about as much as the "Complete" mods for STALKER.

apparently the budget for the game was estimated to be around 100 million dollars

agree, idr where, but someone was talking about a GTA IV mod that added these insanely HD parallax road textures which ultimately made the game look so much worse because it disturbed the color balance and the aesthetic integrity of the scene, even though it was just one texture.
which is why i ditched MGO, spent days removing all the offending textures and slowly handpicked and readded textures from more recent Nexus materials, and left a bunch of older textures in where the color paletted needed it, which is why my screenshots look a little different from MGO.
fake edit:
i'd really like to dropbox it or something for people to copy, it'd just be a matter of dragging them into your data files and enabling the esps, but i feel like it would be wrong without asking modders' permission first? and at this point there are probably dozens of people's textures and meshes in there

I disagree, Skywind won't ever hold a candle to Morrowind, it'll be good sure, but it won't be the same, it still has to confine itself within the Skyrim engine, and you won't ever have the pure freedom Morrowind provides.
And this overhaul of the graphics mixed with a few other graphical mods, because quite frankly MGO isn't perfect, does make the game look better.
I feel like the mix of graphical updates actually increase my immersion more.
I agree Skywind won't hold a candle to Morrowind, but neither does this overhaul. I think high resolution (realistic) textures on still some rather low polygon/blocky models looks out of place, kinda like these;

I dunno, I kind of like the look of those pictures.
Nothing really looks out of place besides the Half Life one, and that's only because the Mine signpost looks a little weird.

the viewmodel looks fucking bizarre what are you even on about
Nothing like disintegrating a herd of mountain goats with Unrelenting Force.

insanity
the return to castle wolfenstein one doesn't look that off imo, but the other three look terrible
I'm not really pumped for Skywind, it won't really be a better looking or playing Morrowind, just Morrowind in the Skyrim engine with all its drawbacks.

...What? They're making new resources for pretty much everything and re-building Vvardenfell from scratch.
Regardless of your opinion on it, it's a little more than a simple port.
Only reason I'm pumped for Skywind is since I hate Morrowinds god damn horrible combat system.
[editline]15th May 2015[/editline]
Also, OpenMW too, since maybe someone can mod in a decent combat system, since always hit mods make the game way to easy.
Woo I finally managed to kill the Dwemer Spectre in Nchuand-Zel. Glad I remembered to bring backup this time.

I hope the next game has cool spells again. Levitation and such. Didn't like daggerfall or something have a spell that let you walk through walls?
Skyrim Spells were a disaster.
Add spellmaking and create every possible effect that you can make in the game.
Heres what you can change:

Same. I was excited at first, but then they said you won't be able to travel between Skyrim and Morrowind like you can between FO3 and NV. Pretty much the only reason i wanted to download it. I know that Morrowind took place hundreds of years before Skyrim but i don't care.

Why does it matter though? Being both the Dragonborn and the Nerevarine doesn't even remotely begin to make sense, even from an "I don't care" standpoint. :v:
Just make a mod that allows you to go to both.
Just make a mod that allows you to go to both.
I think one of the ideas was to be able to choose between Skywind and Skyrim when you press the New Game button, but I don't know if that's still how it works.
[editline]asdf[/editline]
The whole point of Skywind is that it's the game and story of Morrowind, but using Skyrim. A total conversion of sorts. It takes place 200 years ago before the Red Year and the Fourth Era. If you want Morrowind in the present, wait for Beyond Skyrim or something. Both mods are going to take forever to finish anyways.

there are several mods mod for that

not sure if any of them are any good, though

But i don't care if it doesn't make any sense. I just want to play in Morrowind with my Skyrim character and travel freely between the two. I couldn't care less about anything else or what NPCs call me in dialogues. Remove the Morrowind main questline and it's solved. I haven't played Morrowind much before so i don't know but i just want to travel between the two, and ignore everything else.

Compared to a real, integrated spellmaking system they're pretty shit, but it can't really be done much better using mods, too much stuff is hardcoded.
funny considering how much the series relies on being a haven for modding

You can upgrade Morrowind's visuals all you want, but it's still going to feel like the clunkiest of the clunky Gamebryo engine.
(And I still love it either way, vanilla or with sprinkles.)
For the next TES they need to go back to how spellcasting worked in Oblivion, and reintroduce all the cool niche spells.
They also need to add a proper way to counter spells, one that doesn't involve blindly throwing shock at the enemy until they run out of juice. I like the direction some mods have went where magicka = concentration and getting damaged while casting a spell will interrupt said casting because you getting your face cleaved by a war axe tends to break your concentration.
Hell, just add throwables back and make them thrown with the same key as the spell, so you can literally chug rocks at spell casters and force them to interrupt their stupid magic bullshit.
Magic in Oblivion was really clunky and awkward. None of the games have really done it right so far.
[editline]asdp[/editline]
Not to mention there was only like one animation for each casting method.
Not to mention there was only like one animation for each casting method.
skyrim also has that exact problem, in case you haven't noticed
skyrim also has that exact problem, in case you haven't noticed
Not saying they did it right either, but there are also longer casting animations for higher-level spells, even if it is really annoying.
[editline]afds[/editline]
Really though, Bethesda managing to do anything right involving gameplay nowadays would probably be a portent of the imminent end of the universe.
The game just needs a better animation system and animators over all. There's a bunch of hard coded animation limits for some reason, which can be fixed or worked around as mods show, but Bethesda has done nothing to address the issue themselves.
And they never will, as long as people keep paying them money for the minimum amount of effort when it comes to their games.
