The Elder Scrolls Megathread XVII: Paid Mods? Not in My Community.

Even though the paid mods thing already disappeared:
Falskaar, Mod that adds more hours of gameplay, new locations, items, shouts and spells: Free
HD horse pussy (got removed from workshop anyway): Paid at a ridiculous price.
I don't get it.

That was probably a joke by someone trying to make the paid mods thing look stupid.
And it was.
Huge success?
I don't even know what this is supposed to be
Skyrim has an "items" inventory on my Steam inventory page.
And I'm interpreting the agrees on my post as "yes that was related to paid mods", so yeah question answered.
Should've probably taken after him, because my family (me included) literally got kicked out of the house after making that post. RIP in peace.
That thing made a good enough job of making a joke out of itself. That Shadowscale set that wasn't even complete, the Dota 2 weapons ripped straight out of an unreleased set and just wrenched in there... that shit was absolutely despicable.
His post is a joke.

You'd be surprised, it's actually not. I won't bore you with the details, but a guy downstairs made a noise complaint and instantly got us kicked out of the building. Either it was nice timing that I got the news right after making the post or it was karmic justice. Gonna go live with my brother now.

Yeah, when paid mods were around you could purchase mods and put them in your inventory to activate later or potentially trade them.
It feels fucking stupid just typing this down.
The player voice set for taking hits or doing things for female argonians was pretty weird though.
Pretty sure that's because they shared sounds with the female Khajiit. They tried to make it sound as neutral as possible so it could be used for the female versions of both races.
I'm thinking on getting Skyrim, but I've never played a Fallout/Elder Scroll game.
Is it worth it buying on PC just for the mods? If so, what would you guys recommend?

Yes, getting it on PC is definitely the best choice. First mods I go with are graphical mods such as water modifications and the such. Gopher makes mod tutorial videos and goes over some of the necessary mods to improve the look of the game. After that you should go on the Nexus and look for what mods you're into.

Play the games vanilla first.

But do graphical mods make the game more hardware-demanding? Or are there mods that don't affect that as much?
Play the games vanilla first.
Why? I'm thinking on getting it on PC, instead of Xbox, just for the mods. If I wanted to play it vanilla, I would play it on console.
There's mods that make the game more demanding, yeah. Something like a improved water mod wouldn't effect your performance at all. It's stuff like ENBs that'd butcher your system if it was bad.

You yourself said you haven't ever played an Elder Scrolls game before, your first experience should be with the vanilla game first, after that you can go hog wild with mods.

Fine, I'll play it vanilla, for a while.
One last question before I buy it. Is the DLC necessary/recommendable?
GameKeysNow has the Legendary Edition for $14.

Dragonborn is great, Dawnguard is sort of okay but it's your call, and Hearthfire is completely unnecessary but some mods require it.
I'd say get all the DLC, because there are some great mods that require them.

Dragonborn is pretty good, Dawnguard isn't, and Hearthfire is just kind of inconsequential.
But some mods require them, so since it's on sale getting them all just for that might be a good idea.

and this is why you don't leave the tab open for half an hour

If you're getting it on PC just to play with mods, you're better off getting all the DLC so you aren't walled off from getting certain mods because they require this or that DLC.
Atleast play it for the first time vanilla so you know what the difference is between your game with and without mods. Imagine not being able to play an Elder Scroll/Fallout game vanilla because you're so dependent of mods.
Actually just waiting a year/two and picking all the best mods and going from there is probably the best way to play the game, the only thing you'd miss are "hilarious" bugs.
I think nostalgia at all the community jokes and HAHALEL GIANT CLUB ES FUNNEE actually clouds what a complete clusterfuck both TES and FO3 were in the beginning, and Skyrim was broken for literal months, and not just "oh that quest fails" broken but literally "you cannot progress in the game at all" broken, which is a rather big difference.
I mean to this day, Blood/Ice and Potema and one of the civil war ones will still literally break your shit permanently if you happen to have bad luck and autosave enabled.
That kind of shit loses you customers, and I'm sure a lot of them never bother getting mad on a forum, they just uninstall the game.
you can never expect a developer to release a perfect, bug-free game day-one, especially if that developer is bethesda and if they have to be done with it before a specific date like 11.11.11
fortunately, that's a long time and many patches from now and while the game is currently unsupported, most of the crashes and progression-blockers in the vanilla game are gone now
i'd recommend getting the unofficial patches at least for the first playthrough, the rest can be decided based on what the game lacked during the first playthrough
The unofficial patches are the only mods I would reccomend to use on a first playthrough, since they don't actually add anything, they just fix what Bethesda never got around to. They're an objective improvement on the game, unlike mods that add more items or change the graphics.

Do what I call a semi-vanilla run of the game. Get the unofficial patches (including ones for the DLCs if you have them), SKSE, and SkyUI. Then just play through as normal. When you get bored of that run, start piling mods on and start a new character. Sadly, it isn't a good idea to load some mods into an ongoing game because it might start fucking with the scripts and cause instability, especially if they're quest mods or certain pieces of content that influence parts of the vanilla game that you've already completed. It's a much safer bet to start a new character after you start adding more mods to the game.
Unofficial patches and SKSE+SkyUI. Can't live without them.
Maybe run for you lives and when vampires attack too.
Maybe run for you lives and when vampires attack too.
These too. Maybe the Paarthurnax Dilemma, but that might be the upper limit.
Maybe run for you lives and when vampires attack too.
Neither of those work properly anymore.
Wait for Immersive NPCs, it does the same thing without scripts.
I haven't noticed them not working. Before, random NPCs would try to fistfight the vampires. After, they ran away and hid in their houses and shit.
Luckily, Nazeem died before I installed it.

don't they both do the same thing with AI packages?
I think what's happened is that a skyrim update broke the scripts and now NPCs will become permanently stuck in place until you manually switch the script off
