Haven't played Skyrim for a couple of days now.
None of my saves are loading. I've changed nothing.
WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME?
question is why the dwemer would develop any weapons on their own when they don't seem to have ended up in any wars at all and have robots do everything for them
did anyone notice that vanilla Morrowind and Skyrim has robots and that there is a perfectly valid lore explanation for them?
I'm pretty sure if I was the most technological race out of all I'd want to build defenses so that tribals don't get in.
By the way, did the dwemer think that basically everybody else were just tribals, or did they think higher of them?

the dwemer fought bitterly with both the nords and the pre-dunmer

but i get what you're saying

They don't really seem big on fighting their own battles though; I think they'd rather use their robots or trickery, especially since they're always on the defensive.

they weren't like the brotherhood of steel, no. they were a clan-based society that had to deal in sovereign politics like anybody else - as far as i understand they were never "advanced" to the point of being invulnerable.

yeah but we have all their armor and weapons to suggest they fought in person, and a few books that describe battles iirc
I think it's fair to assume that the Dwemer had a pyramidal society with the nobles on top, the warriors who live to fight, and the lower cast which is comprised of dirty worthless falmer.

In Morrowind at least, it's suggested that their armor and weapons are just parts of robots and bits of machinery mistaken for weaponry (which is supported by the fact that Morrowind dwarven stuff was weird.)

Tonal Architects and scientists were probably pretty high up, Kagrenac seemed to be even more powerful than their king.
Hey, I tried looking this up on Google but couldn't find anyone with answers.
Does anyone know how to get a retail version of Oblivion GOTY working on Windows 8.1? Securom is being a prick and won't let me install it because the OS isn't supported. The setup itself won't run in compatibility mode and everything else I have tired seemed to fail.
I would really not want to buy it again when I know this copy ~should~ work fine, any thoughts?

Important to note that most of the stronger factions in ancient times were much, much, much more advanced then than they are now, there wasn't nearly as much of a technological gap as there might seem to have been.

It's less a technological gap and more a theological gap.
The Reman Empire had magicka spaceships and weird afterlife internet, but the Dwemer are the ones with the knowhow to build a god of NO, and the knowledge required to want to do something like that. Also, tonal architecture.
edit: explain these funnies, heathens

best bet is to get the goty on steam, if it doesn't go on sale in the next few days it will be on sale sometime later this year, you can get it for like $2.50.

Did you try loading any autosaves? For some reason, if a manual save refuses to load, I always find that the autosaves still function perfectly.

2 looks like it might be in skyrim? 4 possibly Elswyr? My best guess for 3 is also skyrim
[editline]12th June 2015[/editline]
i mean in location to game
Top left is Oblivion, could be the Colovian Highlands maybe? Bottom left is Solstheim in Morrowind, I think. Not sure about the other two, probably Morrowind also.

Is that the old MERP beta? Its definitely oblivion engine, but those mountains are way pointy-er than any I've seen in oblivion
Is that the old MERP beta? Its definitely oblivion engine, but those mountains are way pointy-er than any I've seen in oblivion
Bingo!
It's the old Middle-Earth Roleplaying Project for Oblivion. A gigantic mod that aimed to make the entirety of The Lord of the Rings' Middle-Earth playable like an Elder Scrolls game.

Sadly, it was never finished. But the sheer scale of what they've accomplished is incredible.
The size of the map is about 10 times bigger than Skyrim. All of it is travellable, and it takes several real hours, even with a horse, to get from one corner to the opposite one.
The map is so big actually, that it is only able to show the "closest" mountains at any time.

In the above picture, those mountains in the back are about three or four times bigger than the Throat of the World. And those are not even the tallest mountains in the game.
The few cities that were made are also bigger than in TES games (Imperial City notwithstanding). The most complete, Bree, is about three times bigger than Whiterun or Riften in Skyrim.

Bree is also the only city that has interiors, but only half of the buildings have one. The city is also only half-populated. And that's by far the most complete a city in MERP has ever been.

I've only explored a small fraction of the map, but I'll post more pics about this unfinished masterpiece.
Let's hope that one day we'll get an Elder Scrolls of that scale.
(All pictures were taken with custom ENB, nothing else.)
It's so amazing, you can basically create a whole new game based on Skyrim/Oblivion through mods, or through creating the mods yourself. Theoretically yes, practically almost yes.
People spending their lifetimes and nobody getting paid shit may be a concern, but it's definitely for the greater good. Like fucking ants, man.

Have you ever uploaded that ENB anywhere?
I have no idea why I can't bring myself to like the Imperials.
I'm the type of guy that always looks at the bigger picture, the guy that goes for the lesser evil even if it goes against my morals and I try so hard to apply that to Skyrim... but I'm always siding with Ulfric and leading us up to arse-elves fucking everyone in Tamriel over.
I think it's because of the nordic theme being pulled off really well in Skyrim and since the Imperials are just the same old boring roman legion dudes it ends up with me being turned away from them, not to mention the fact that I hate how they surrendered to the elves despite the fact that I know they had no choice in the matter.
Please fix my beliefs
