it's much more streamlined and bugless, still boring as hell
So is TESO still trash, or has it gotten better since b2p?
It's gotten better, quests are pretty good and combat feels more solid.
There's this one mini-questline in Daggerfall involving a [sp]sadistic pervert who has been capturing harpies and torturing them partially to make the locals love him and partially because he's a sadistic pervert[/sp]. In one of the endings, [sp]you can see the leader of the group of crappy newbie mercenaries you've been helping freeing all his harpies in the background while you try to convince Captain Bird-Furry-Porn to stand down. Conversation ends with him going (paraphrasing) "Wait...oh shit" and being immediately murdered[/sp]. It's pretty great.
Something I wanted to add to this but didn't get a chance to: if we ever get a game with more focus on Orcs, I want them to starting looking like they do in this bit of art by Michael Kirkbride.

He is the reason TES Orcs aren't boring D&D or LOTR Orcs.
Apparently his original plan for orcs was to imply they were from a pocket universe, where they had an advanced civilization that was a mix between Atlantis and ancient Japan; which is why they had that samurai-looking armor in Morrowind. Kinda glad he dropped that idea.
That's not a bad idea at all. Y'know orichalum (or however that's spelt) is a metal from atlantis.
Still. I liked how before skyrim, Orcs were a misunderstood race with the most advanced smiths and a refined artstyle
Then skyrim came and they were savages again. With armour and weapons all crude looking.
Just run everything through google translate
problem solved
Dude on Nexus says the game comes with a google-translated ESP.
Downloading whether its got one or not. I'll just slog through it not knowing what's being said if i have to. That shit looks like waaaay too tight to ignore.
That's not a bad idea at all. Y'know orichalum (or however that's spelt) is a metal from atlantis.
Well, orichalcum is strongly associated with the Redguards (they credit the god Diagna, a form of the HoonDing, a spirit who comes along every now and then to make everything go in favour of the Redguards, with giving it to them so they could kill their enemies on Yokuda, the Left Handed Elves, and the Tower of Yokuda was known as Orichalc), a once incredibly advanced race who sank most of their island home in a magical nuclear explosion. I think they inherited the Atlantis thing.
Also I really like the glorious Trinimac becomes the exiled Malacath and all his followers change from proud, beautiful Altmer to hideous, but still proud and intelligent, pig-elf things, moreso than a weirdly done pocket universe plot twist.
Fuck, now Diplomatic Immunity is broken. I give my shit to Delphine and get in the carriage, my screen goes black, and then nothing happens. It's supposed to cut to a loading screen, but it just stays on a black screen.
I've tried to setstage my way past it but nothing happened. Any advice?

Although it wasn't very well translated by the game due to engine limitations and bethesda having a tendency to half-ass everything, I think the general direction Skyrim went with is that it's such a difficult country to live in that people just naturally devolve into a much more savage and brutal state. See how Bretons are supposed to be relatively advanced and civilized with a large emphasis on manners and court intrigue but the Forsworn who live in Skyrim are brutal tribal cunts who live on a day to day basis because they literally live in the coldest part of the habitable world.
Orcs kind of follow the same idea. Shit's really tough in Skyrim and if you want to survive as an orsimer you have to either stick with your buddies and live on your own so nobody bothers you or you have to enroll in the imperial legion to become a smith - those who pick that course aren't exactly seen in the game, because they're not stationed in Skyrim but in places where they'd be more useful.
Also it's fair to say that the orcs who live in secluded strongholds in the farthest ends of Skyrim are specifically outcasts who willingly isolated themselves in a relatively difficult to access country to live by a super old code that dictates them to live a quite brutal and unforgiving life. They're here because they can't find room anywhere else to follow the code of Malacath (which can be assumed to have been abandoned by most orcs in any other place int he world because they're much better integrated into society by now, albeit still as warriors and blacksmiths) since Orsinium is a fucking unstable mess and there's literally no room in other parts of the world.
As far as armor and weapons go, it's still up to Bethesda being lazy but the idea is that the gear you find was crafted in Skyrim, where function is a lot more important than style. Meanwhile in places like Cyrodiil you can prioritize form over function and it can be assumed most of the "exotic" armor in Morrowind is imported rather than crafted there.

Orsinium is usually very stable, when the Orcs are able to keep it going; Orcs have a very pragmatic culture, causing instability would make you an outcast among outcasts. The issue is that the Redguards and Bretons take offense at its existence and regularly burn it down. The Orcs are in Skyrim during 4E 201 because it's been burnt done once more and they've been scattered throughout Skyrim; Nords don't like them either, but they don't make as much of a fuss about it, and the Empire still has influence in Skyrim (The Empire has a very strong relationship with the Orcs - they acknowledge the Orcs as an intelligent people, and in return the Orcs form a large part of the Legion).

The weapons and armour in Skyrim aren't very functional almost as a whole. There are a few good examples of decent weapons and armour but the rest would be wholesale junk if they were real.

Even the few okay weapons are generally way too thick, among the bladed weapons anyway.

The Elder Scrolls operate on "fuck you it works" logic for most things so even if a weapon looks like it'd break in half when hitting anything in real life it's still supposed to be godlike in universe as long as the stats follow.

I never liked that myself, it's an excuse to avoid putting any real thought into the design.
It does seem to polarize people though, seems like people either love my Real Bows mod or hate it. The people who hate it generally give "it's fantasy" as a reason and prefer the extravagant over the practical, something I don't entirely agree with (but understand since it's just personal preference in the end) as there doesn't seem to be a reason for it in the lore apart from the nature of the materials used, like 'Glass' weapons and armour for example.
As much as I like Skyrim, I really don't like most of the weapon and armour designs. If I had more time I'd go through the whole game and replace everything that doesn't look like it'd perform very well if it were real.
Having every single piece of equipment be practical IRL would make most if not all of them land into this same little problem where only different colors, materials or teeny tiny details differentiate a steel sword from a daedric one. Unique weapons would be hit the hardest by this if Bethesda actually bothered to give them unique models and textures *hint hint*.
I do appreciate realism but TES doesn't feel like a series where that stuff would be appropiate. If the guys who designed the equipment had to make it 100% practical then things would get kinda boring.
Some guy named Skallagrim made a video about practicalifying(?) Skyrim weapons and his end result made them look kind of dull.
Real world armour and weapons can look insanely cool, and where it doesn't, bethesda can just throw stuff over it like a poncho/mantle/scarf/item bags. Or some ornate engravings.
Alternate Angi's Bow - Scoped
This is an optional replacer for Angi's Bow that adds a new scope to the bow.

it was sounding good until i got to this part

but it's optional
also the scoped bow thing is really helpful for people who play without crosshairs on

There is a lot of kinds of real swords, axes, and maces out there. It would be kinda weird to have, for example, only steel longswords and only orcish shamshirs though.
If we get a game in Hammerfell, there better be a thousand kinds of swords. The Redguards are total sword fetishists.

TBH I agree with everything he says, and that Better Shaped Weapons mod is definitely a must-have. Alogn with DeLARPification.

how the hell do you do that without getting motion sickness
maybe it's just because i expect a pointer when i'm on a computer but if i try to play a first person game without crosshairs it fucks me up pretty good

TES players tend to have a big enough immersion boner to disable crosshairs, even if that means slapping a dumb "dwemer" scope on your bow.
I don't really care for the scoped bow mods and I don't use them myself, but a scope in the TES universe is by no means far fetched, considering the advances in forging and glass working.
We know that telescopes and observatories are a thing, so that's literally all you need right there.
I usually play with crosshairs turned off myself, I've never really had a problem with doing archery that way myself, though it does take some training to get used to.
I get a kick out of using in-world cues, so I love stuff like disabled crosshair and immersive FP (it puts the camera on your third person head).
Basically if you want to do archery in 1st person without a crosshair, look at the tip of the arrow, above that is where the knocked arrow will start flying when you let go.

Re-watching that is nice. I really like his videos, have been subbed for the longest time because of those types of videos and I do agree with everything he says, but the end result is still lacking in the flair and extravagance that you'd expect from a fantasy/D&D type of game. If TES had a dark fantasy theme then realistic weapons would be appropiate and would work here as well as they do in The Witcher.
Something like Garrosh's Gorehowl from WoW is impractical as fucking balls and acts like a big bladed hammer IRL as shown by this video, but it looks radical.
It also might help that I don't really scrutinize things; something that looks nice is something that looks nice, the value it may or may not have in a rl fight is irrelevant as long as it can clip through those guy's polygons in a cool looking way.
Scrutinizing little things in a fantasy video game is sort of silly though. most of the swords in the game are stupidly big and unwieldy, but that's just how they wanted them to look.
That's why we have mods if we don't like it though. Although you're a big dick if you say other peoples aesthetic preferences make them stupid, one way or the other.
Remember a while ago when I said I wanted to make myself into a Skyrim follower?

Let's do this shit
I'd set essential, Having companions that die just because they walked into a dart trap is fucking annoying
I'd set essential, Having companions that die just because they walked into a dart trap is fucking annoying
That's what the "protected" checkbox is: that weird semi-essential mode that means only the player can truly kill that NPC.
What if I want to chop his head off and put it on my nightstand tho?
I'm going to drop a book on death that basically cusses you the fuck out for that shit.
only real obstacle is i won't have high quality recording for my voice acting (also i'm not a great voice actor)
oh fuckin' well
[editline]25th June 2015[/editline]
ooh now this is interesting
if i record through creation kit there's some nasty buzz noises, but if i use audacity all i get is light static
guess you shouldn't record via creation kit guys
Y'know, when you think about it, the Companions are really just a [sp]really creepy cult of cannibals[/sp]
Y'know, when you think about it, the Companions are really just a [sp]really creepy cult of cannibals[/sp]
Y'know, when you think about it, the Companions are really just a [sp]shoddy replacement for the traditional Fighter's Guild questline, fuck them[/sp]
