If I reset the map, I do intend on releasing the world data should anyone wish to revisit/use things. At the moment its approaching 700MB (around 1GB with plugin metadata). Compressed backups are closer to 400. It is fairly trivial to store that somewhere accessible for long term use.
I will not release the overviewer render of the map. If someone wants the config to render it locally for whatever reason, I can share that. The render is simply too big for me to bother keeping it and a new map. It's ~ 25GB of compressed pngs, and growing. That space isn't a concern for one map, but I might have to delete an old one later on short notice, so I'm just going to proactively say that it's not happening.

Wait are you gonna reset the map? Because i might as well wait until it's done.
There will be no snapshots.
The server runs spigot, which is an optimized derivative of bukkit. Neither bukkit nor spigot produce snapshot builds. The vanilla server provided my Mojang also uses a slightly different layout for saving world data, and I'd rather not switch between the two. It's not difficult by itself, but all the scripts I've written, and overviewer configs would need to be adjusted, and there's always the remote possibility of a fuckup with the world data.
When spigot updates to 1.8, we can have this discussion. As I see it there are 3 possibilities:
Remain on 1.7 - no world reset.
Update to 1.8 - no world reset.
Update to 1.8 - reset the world.
Personally I'm inclined to update to 1.8. I'd also lean towards resetting the map, but it's all up to everyone.
Maybe start a poll on this when it's released, but i'm fine with reset. i'm nearing completion of most of my base builds anyways, i'd like a fresh start
For new players, no the map is not being reset. he's just saying if later down the road people want a reset for 1.8 it will be discussed then
I guess i'm as done as i'll ever be, guess i'm ready for a reset too <:3

I would like a copy of the map if possible though

In fact, people are going to come back.

It happened on more than one server in my experience. I'm not HOPING it does again, but that's what I see as likely
although with updates on the way I might be changing my prediction
Add me to the game!

I'd be down to play on a 1.8 server if the new terrain generation options are utilized. An all random terrain world would be interesting. Either way are there any plans for a custom terrain world for the new map?

I wonder if the world generation can be modified to represent b1.7.3?
I'd be sold 100% on a reset if that's possible.
If we are gonna do a reset vote maybe we should do it right now? It would be better for me personally, since just finished resource gathering for my big building plans and I dont want to kick in and waste time if a reset will happen soon
reset on 1.8 is the plan i believe
it's not out yet right
how long until 1.8 comes out anyway?
or don't we know

well no release date on wiki, and they usually have that there
If we reset the map, it'll deter my desire to play until then.
I guess I could give this a shot, vanilla Minecraft is best Minecraft after all.

I'd love to be whitelisted, my name is Prayers1.
If the map is about to get changed, may I ask to make it on "AMPLIFIED"? There are really cool biomes and gives to the map something unique.
1.8 is changing how map generation works. You can specify a great deal of random tidbits to fine tune it. Even if that weren't the case, there's the the problem with how amplified looks great, but gets in the way of doing anything.
It's difficult to build structures anywhere because the terrain heights are so random, ores don't spawn much, if at all, above certain heights, and traveling in the overworld gets very unpleasant. 1.8 has some fairly advanced tweaks that you can make to world generation. I intended to look into making something a bit hilly, but going full blown amplified is just too far if you ask me.
How much PVP goes down on the server? Do you have to hide underground or build 7000 blocks from spawn to avoid being killed by regs?

Make sure to increase the amount of lapis spawned, if possible. With the new enchantment system coming with 1.8, we'll need it unfortunately.
Yeah. At some point I'm going to have to sit down and read up on all the changes and how to tweak a few little things like that. I don't want to just blanket buff the abundance of ores though. You don't need huge stacks of diamonds. Have an enchanted tool you want to keep? Trade for more from villagers, and just combine them on an anvil.
I'd like to play some Minecraft, since I haven't in almost a year - and I can't think of anything I'd prefer over trying out new 1.8 stuff in vanilla with a bunch of Facepunchers.
Count me in when the server updates/resets - name for the whitelist is blue_chameleon.
Hey there, I'd be interested in trying this. I haven't played Minecraft in a while though, mostly Dota 2.
