That's where parents are supposed to step in, and if they're so easily manipulated that they can let video games influence them on how the real world works they probably shouldn't be playing video games in the first place. The AC Villager is a guy, you're getting flustered over something so simple it's absurd, I mean we already have Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, and most likely Peach as well. All extremely strong, capable women. Furthermore even if there were more female characters, a lot of guy gamers would still be hostile towards women because they're incredibly shy, awkward, and probably haven't been in the company of women a lot to begin with. Having more ladies in vidya won't change social awkwardness, now will it?
did you seriously just refer to peach as a strong capable woman what crazy LSD world do you live in
did you seriously just refer to peach as a strong capable woman what crazy LSD world do you live in
She's not exactly bright but she packs a wallop in SMRPG, Super Princess Peach, Melee, Brawl, and Super Strikers. I think she just gets kidnapped by Bowser because she likes it.

Before flyingman embarrasses himself further, the point of my post was that I just thought it was slightly strange that they didn't pick a female villager. I've also mensioned in my post that it would be great if they just had a female model selection or clone character (with unique attributes, like all clones in brawl) I honesty think it isn't that big of a deal. Pretending its an insult to women everywhere is a little extreme. I don't know much about gender equality, I just think that the male villager was a bizzare choice. And the development of the game should be the focus, not implementing a clone character or skin just to keep the consumers of one franchise happy on both accounts. I think it's best for the thread if we don't bring gender politics into it. This is the smash thread, after all. (Please note- I was never flustered by this conversation- I've remained nothing but calm. Please don't associate me with the people yelling at each other!)
jesus christ who the fuck gives a shit about gender representation in a mascot fighter, god damn like, seriously, maybe worry about women being represented in actual games before you start bitching that there aren't enough ladies in a game that only features other game characters i'm sorry but this point of discussion is fucking retarded. edit: WE NEED MORE BLACK PEOPLE, WE HAVE LIKE NO BLACK PEOPLE IN THIS GAME

But it does. People have always underestimated the kind of impact that can have, in every form of media. It's a serious fucking cultural problem that people like to just ignore because it's more convenient, and that's bullshit. There's no reason to get so hostile pal. You take that matter far, FAR too seriously. Especially here on this thread of all places. Go play video games

Go play video games
could you be ignoring my point any harder it's easy for you to just act like people aren't impressionable, and that big parts of our culture can't have impact on the culture at large, and that's simply not true. Get an argument that doesn't hinge on "I don't want you to be making this argument" or just stop responding.
That's where parents are supposed to step in, and if they're so easily manipulated that they can let video games influence them on how the real world works they probably shouldn't be playing video games in the first place.
children are naive. they tend to mimic the behaviour of others in general and are easily influenced. stuff like disney movies definitely gave me a false sense of what romance was supposed to be like when i was younger, for example. i don't think smash bros. is a sexist game by any means, its just a fighting game, but theres definitely more male characters than female characters, and i think it'd be good to at least keep somewhat of a balance. i don't think excluding females is sexist, thats reading too far into it, but more female characters would definitely be a good thing, and i don't think thats something to shrug off just because of the recent rise in radical feminism. this isn't radical feminism this is just a matter of keeping things balanced, i'm glad they did wii fit trainer i think that was an awesome idea [editline]6th August 2013[/editline] surely girls playing the game would want some more variety. females generally relate to female characters right? thats just logical
Super Smash Brothers: the most important platforms for gender equality of the 21st century.
Oh for the love of...Why? Why did this have to happen? I expect this petty stuff from Smashboards, not Facepunch. So, let's talk about Pilotwings. I've never played a Pilotwings game, but is there any character potential there in the first place? And I wonder why they're using the SNES backdrop at all. Surely they could've whipped up something prettier, unless the entire stage is supposed to be retro like the Kingdom stages in Melee.
Jesus all mighty, just put the guy on your ignore list and move on, discuss fucking Pilot Wings or something. Besides, the villager they chose is the most fucking default of default looking player characters from the series and is more recognisable, just like a male Mii, than the female variant. The downward spikey hair is easier to recognise than the default woman hair, the "1" shirt has been in the series forever, he was featured on a Animal Crossing game's case, the background of Brawl and I guarantee the skins will be 2 more guys and 3 girls. But please, shit your pants about this something so trivial again. It's smash bros for crying out loud. Also, Megaman still pretty cool right, let's talk about that and not waste two pages.
I still think Yellow Devil has the potential to be a boss and not a stage hazard
What's this map from?
That reminds me a lot of a game called Meteor, but it isn't a nintendo game. Honestly, I don't remember who made it.
What's this map from?
Looks like a Pilotwings stage.
Holy shit it's Pilotwings
I hope this means we might get a Pilotwings 64 character.
when is the nintendo direct scheduled?
when is the nintendo direct scheduled?
7am PST tommorow.
7am PST tommorow.
Any idea what it's for, like the Pikmin one? Or is it just like "There will be a Nintendo Direct at this time"?
Any idea what it's for, like the Pikmin one? Or is it just like "There will be a Nintendo Direct at this time"?
They said Wii U and 3DS games.
My guess is the Pilotwings stage will end up like Lylat Cruise. Fighting on top of a plane with occasional hang gliders showing up to act as additional platforms.
They said Wii U and 3DS games.
Please have Smash info...please have Smash info...
I don't know if what you guys are seeing a different picture but that's clearly Skyloft.

Stage 3 of SNES's PilotWings.
If this was a stage it could work like fighting on a platform as you descend to the bottom.
I saw all the new posts and got my hopes up for a character reveal. Damn.
