Wavedashing was not a glitch, but an exploit. It was the physics engine working exactly like it should; making you slide in the ground if you landed with momentum, and directional air dodging made said momentum contollable AND without stun.
Can SSB4 just hurry up and come out, be competitively viable and make everyone stop communally masturbating over Melee's broken as fuck physics engine
The sooner everyone just forgets about wavedashing the better
I just prefer melee's speed over Brawl's floatiness
Both are great games though
Except it wasn't broken. It was exploitable. If Brawl had directional airdodging (which was a good thing that had to be cut because of people complaining about wavedashing, despite wavedashing being irrelevant to having fun with your friends), if you dodged in an angle inches above the ground, you'd wavedash anyway. Changing that would end up being buggy as hell, but because of self-entitled players who think their way of playing is the only valid one (and not talking about competitive ones, who are left to their devices), well, air dodging became what it was in Brawl.
BTW, they are not getting to Melee levels. People liked it because of just how damn fast it could get. They are aiming to not go there. So doubt it will be phased out, seeing how even Smash 64 is alive...

Friend says this is where the ridley fight takes place in other M
Wonderful, hopefully that means tht Adam will appear once in a while and unauthorize the use of certain buttons on the stage.
Ah, but you're thinking games. The reason Lucario was in Brawl to begin with because he was in a movie. Ditto Mewtwo in melee. Now, is there gonna be a movie about angry mode Lucario?
So if they're gonna add a character based on extreme modes, it'll be Mewtwo since he'll be the focus of the movie about it.
The smart money's on a Mewtwo/Lucario special form super dynamic combo movie. I wouldn't be shocked if they both turned up in SSB as well.

the developers did not make the game with players sliding along the ground in mind. they got airdodging right in brawl, it's supposed to be just that, a dodge move in the air.

Wow that looks really nice. Nintendo is really taking advantage of the Wii U (not in it's entirety, but doing a lot more with it.)
It's fun to see people flipping out over Sakurai hinting that Ridley will be a stage hazard/eye candy on the new stage.

God damn it I knew this was gonna happen. Why on earth is Nintendo willingly acknowledging this game's existence? At least it's nice looking, though I hope it does something interesting, we're getting an awful lot of wide flat stages with a few floating platforms now.
and regarding air dodging, I prefer how it worked in Brawl, actually, it didn't use up your third jump, same thing with tether recoveries.
and speaking of tether recoveries: For the love of christ don't make them a character's main method of recovery unless you give them a complete re-working, characters like Olimar and ZSS get gimped hard on certain stages.
It's fun to see people flipping out over Sakurai hinting that Ridley will be a stage hazard/eye candy on the new stage.
Yeah, the comment Sakurai included with the picture apparently says something about how "it looked like someone from Samus' past was about to appear."
Which really doesn't even mean a deconfirmation of Ridley. But then again maybe I'm grasping at straws.
People wanted Ridley, and that's the way you'll get him. Imo it seems pretty reasonable, because in this way they won't have to worry about scaling him down, and fits the way he usually apears in the series.
On wavedashing since many people dont know;
Nintendo Power: This is one that a lot of hardcore Smash Bros. fans have long wondered about. Was the ablility to "Wavedash" in Melee intentional or a glitch?
Sakurai: Of course, we noticed that you could do that during the development period. With Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it wasn't a matter of, "OK, do we leave it in or do we take it out?"
We really just wanted this game, again, to appeal to and be played by gamers of all different levels. We felt that there was a growing gap between beginners and advanced players, and taking that out helps to level the playing field. It wasn't a big priority or anything, but when we were building the game around the idea of making it fair for everybody, it just made sense to take it out. And it also goes back to wanting to make something different from Melee and giving players the opportunity to find new things to enjoy.
Source is oooold May 2008 issue of Nintendo Power.
On the subject of Other M Samus, I totally want a Zelda cd:I skin for Link
God damn it I knew this was gonna happen. Why on earth is Nintendo willingly acknowledging this game's existence?
Because it was an important part of Nintendo's history.
Besides, they can't have just ignored it forever, like Sega did with Sonic 06(though they did something similar with Sonic Generations)
Yeah, a very important part, as the game that killed Metroid. And hey, because it is JAPANESE MASTER RACE it is more important than the made by foreign devils Prime series. The fact that one is a bad game that needs to catch the eye of a feminist organization and the other a masterpiece of a trilogy is irrelevant.
Seriously, make a new Metroid. One where Samus is a person and not a stereotype, and Ridley doesn't have a fucking duck face.
And I hope we get playable Ridley. Seriously, size a problem? BOWSER TOWERS OVER MARIO EVERYWHERE BUT IN SMASH. Small Ridley is a flying, fire-breathing Xenomorph. And that IS awesome.
I still have my fingers crossed for playable Ridley. There's a million possibilities behind Sakurai's comment. Maybe he's not mentioning him by name because he'll reveal him as playable later? Maybe he's just saying that to bring context to the stage itself and Ridley's neither playable or a stage hazzard?
It's just super annoying, especially since we know he probably knows people want Ridley
I agree with having Ridley playable. There is currently precisely one Metroid character, sitting alongside 7+ Mario characters, 4 Zelda characters, 6 Pokemon, 3 Kirby characters, and 3 Starfox characters.
I'd also like to see another F-Zero representative. Samurai Goroh would be pretty badass, or maybe Black Shadow.
Black Shadow gets Ganondorf's moveset (which works fairly different from Falcon's and would be a shame to see it axed), Ganondorf gets a new, magic and sword based one. Bonus points if Ganondorf gets a Skyward Sword design and uses a sword similar to the one in the final battle of said game.
As long as we're talking about pipe dreams here, I'd love to see Toon Ganondorf, looking just as he does in the finale of Wind Waker and functioning much the same way.
Would be HIGHLY topical too, considering the Wind Waker redux isn't far off.

If Ridley is a stage hazard for the Other M stage, they better not use the design from the game.
One of the most asked for Brawl characters, ends up a boss. Stage hazard, but the fucking Wii Fit Trainer and the Animal Crossing Village as playable characters? That'd be outrageous.

To be fair, as an extremely popular franchise, Animal Crossing kind of deserved a character, especially considering how well they've implemented him.
Wii Fit Trainer I love, but the idea that she can get in and not Ridley is a little sad
I have nothing against those characters except the fact that if Ridley ends up being a stage hazard it'd feel like a kick in the nuts.
Honestly, that'd be like making Dedede a stage hazard once again.

Isn't Ridley like, gigantic, even when compared to Bowser?

Could work. And those are trophies anyway.
Seriously, the giantic one is Kraid. Ridley is usually the smaller, most movile, and most damaging boss. Alien Queen sized or so.
Olimar is the size of a coin in canon. Bowser changes sizes consistently throughout the games he's in. I think a rescaled Ridley would suffice, people.
Ridley as a Bowser-size character focused on areals, spikes and midair agility would be awesome.
The tradeoff for this air superiority being a slow walk/run, and not many powerful ground-based moves.

So going by the logic of "roughly twice the height of samus when in that awkward crouchy pose", this looks correct.

That's still pretty fucking big.
