I still think he'd be a very areal-focused character who's a bit ungainly on the ground. Imagine Meta Knight's air maneuverability with more power behind his attacks, but on land he's closer to Bowser.
And of course his final smash would initiate a Space Pirate raid on the stage.
That is because it was made by Ninja Theory, which are known for totally fucking up franchises.
Just look at last year's Devil May Cry reboot, which made Dante, pretty much a total badass, turn into a edgy emo teen.
And let's not start on that one cutscene where one of the main characters, where we are supposed to be rooting for performs an abortion with a sniper rifle. ''Shakespearian'', my arse.
You got it a bit jumbled up. Team Ninja, the guys behind Ninja Gaiden, made Other M's cutscenes and some of the fighting choreography.
That horrible story? That's all Nintendo's doing, specifically Yoshio Sakamoto. You see Sakamoto always wanted this stupid melodrama bullshit, way back during Super Metroid's development, it's just back then Nintendo had more quality control and put Sakamoto's dumb ass in a corner whenever he had a moment.
and if memory serves right, Sakamoto specifically stated he wanted the voice actress for Samus to deliver her lines in a bland, monotone voice.
I wonder if on this new stage, when you're playing as Samus she'll become an immobile idiot for half a minute every time Ridley comes on screen

Better yet, she won't have any clearance to use any of her specials until she gets a call from Adam 3 minutes into the match and gives her clearance to use the power beam.
But not the charge beam.

Oh, and she keeps getting damage from the environment because Adam decides that it is fun to let Samus get boiled in her non-upgraded suit, while she doesn't even object at the utter idiocy of that.
I liked Adam better when he was a [sp]brain uploaded into a computer[/sp].
So, at least one person on Smashboards has threatened to leave the forum and not buy SSB4 because Ridley could potentially be a stage hazard instead of a playable character.
Right.

To be fair, Metroid Fusion is where all the melodrama started, but nobody remembers...

It still took a back seat to the gameplay, and was fairly interesting.
It's still the second most exposition-heavy Metroid game ever. I remember it being the first one of the series where I found myself vigorously mashing B to skip dialog in every computer room.
It and Other M had a very similar problem; hampered by a (comparatively) hamfisted narrative that few remember the details of and fewer cared about.

great loss.
A good game
Did we play the same game? Other M is absolutely shit, very little exploration, combat is stiff and awkward and there's no incentive to kill normal enemies as they drop no ammo or energy.

Also in Fusion it the relationship wasn't submissive like it was in other M.

That and Fusion made Adam sound like a GOOD character if Samus respected him.
But nope, that PERFECT MILITARY MIND [sp]locked himself up in a Metroid-infested area and blew himself for no reason whatsoever[/sp] (spoilers I guess for anyone that gives a fuck about Other M's story, which should be no one)

Don't get me wrong, it's no Metroid Prime, but it wasn't awful. Half the people I know who say it's a bad game just watched someone's sarcastic Let's Play, or they look at it and go "It's not an FPS, it's bad by default" because they never played any of the series pre-Gamecube. Or they just hate games that other people hate and this is another on that list. It's refreshing to see opinions from people who actually PLAYED it.
I guess what I meant to say is that it had potential. Would've felt a lot better with an analog stick instead of a D-pad, that's for sure.

as someone who played through the entire fucking game, and did the extra bit where you [sp]get Adam's helmet and tangle with Phantoon for no real reason[/sp]
I can safely say I hated it. Combat is stiff, awkward, and easily broken by spamming dodge with the insta-charge counter, as I stated before, because enemies drop no powerups, there's NO incentive whatsoever to shoot the mooks unless the door's locked, bosses are mostly irritating, uninspired, or just taken from other Metroid games, and even then they're shit. Going first person for missiles is awkward as shit and generally not worth it unless it's the only way to damage them.
But I'm getting us off track, this a smash bros thread, sorry guys.
Probably another pipe dream, but I'd love to see the ability to import your character from New Leaf (or a future AC game) savedata and use them to visually replace the Villager.
Complete with fishing rod and net and stuff being replaced by gold or silver variants if your character has them.

I'd like this as well. But what would they do about pants/socks/shoes? The Villager is based off of the first three AC games, when those things weren't customizable.

Everyone on Smashboards is an idiot, someone please get me out of there.
I see 113 new posts and come in to see a lot of bitching about Other M.
I mean, VALID bitching, but c'mon, fellas.

It wasn't Ninja Theory who made other m you dingus, M:OM was made by Team Ninja and they make Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, not shitty DMC reboots

They added in an Other M stage, what do you expect?

as long as we don't get an Othe- I mean, another one.

Also, regarding wavedashes:

(Game is Air Dash Online.)
Thanks for the mention, I'm the technical artist working on the game responsible for the motion effect.
Regarding the wavedashing discussion earlier, in my opinion, if you're going to design a game to have it (as we are) it should be simple to pull off. It's already second nature for plenty of Melee players, so keeping a difficulty barrier in there is kind of moot.
As of now the timing in our game is a little more forgiving than Melee, plus with the way air dashes (formerly dodges) work there's less risk of messing it up. We've also given an option to wavedash from the ground without having to angle the stick down, by pressing jump and block at roughly the same time.
We’re not putting any sort of limit on it that wasn’t present in Melee. Don’t see much reason to since we’re also adding more mobility options to the air game.

i said i was sorry :c
i hope samus gets a buff from her brawl version, she was awfully floaty, lacked impact
>airdash online devs on Facepunch
is this real
this is too good to be real
I didnt hate Other M. it was okay. I think people exggerate their hatred of it because it's metroid and as such it shoud have been amazing.

I'd love to see Samus get a big buff speed-wise.
Heck, give her more abilities too. Hold Down+B for a Power Bomb, replace Side+B missiles with the ShineSpark, make her neutral B fire a missile when tapped, and a charge shot when held briefly.
Admit it. This in Smash would be fucking awesome:

Actually people hate it because it doesn't make sense with the positioning of the Metroid timeline and the portyal of Samus.
I apologise, I can only speak for myself, but while i disliked the Adam Character and the plotholes, i still quite enjoyed the gameplay and the cinematics
Gameplay and combat controls were.... satisfactory I guess. But the linearity, lack of exploration, horrendous story and annoying monotone voice acting left a really shitty taste in my mouth.
I really hope Sakamoto doesn't direct another Metroid game. He's like a Japanese George Lucas.
