I'd love to see Samus get a big buff speed-wise. Heck, give her more abilities too. Hold Down+B for a Power Bomb, replace Side+B missiles with the ShineSpark, make her neutral B fire a missile when tapped, and a charge shot when held briefly. Admit it. This in Smash would be fucking awesome: -Shinesparking to get to hidden area-
While I do agree with adding a power bomb (or just buffing the bombs in general), I do believe that there is an easier way to add shinespark that is more truthful to the source material: after sprinting a medium distance she starts shinesparking, increasing her sprinting speed and adding additional damage and knockback to her dash-a. That way you can retain most of the moves and how they are set up, but you've added more depth to her character.
I apologise, I can only speak for myself, but while i disliked the Adam Character and the plotholes, i still quite enjoyed the gameplay and the cinematics
Did you play Metroid Fusion, the first game with Adam in it? He was a good character in that.

With some tweaks to go with it: While the Shinespark is powered up, your Up+B becomes the Shineboost instead of the Screwattack, covering more vertical distance and able to be directed horizontally as well (like Foxfire / Phoenix). It delivers its damage all at once (opposed to the rapidfire Screwattack), so it can be used as a midair launcher or spike if executed smartly. Using a running attack, using the Shineboost, or waiting too long without running will cause the Shinespark to de-energize. Also... Ice missiles. When performing the Side+B missile attack, keep holding B until the end of the arm cannon glows blue and shimmers to launch an ice missile, capable of freezing foes.
super smash bros, best thing to bitch about a new stage and other m
Did you play Metroid Fusion, the first game with Adam in it? He was a good character in that.
Not yet, still have to get round to that. It's on my 3ds, waiting.

As the Ice Beam (and later the Fusion Missiles) has become one of Samus' most notable abilities, I find it a shame that she doesn't have any mention of that ability in-game. Instead, most of the moves that she does have involving her cannon just use a generic explosion thing (such as her down-tilt A and her forward jumping A).
All this talk about Ridley made me notice that his neck is pretty damn weird.
[IMG_thumb]http://i43.tinypic.com/wuqwpv.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Friend says this is where the ridley fight takes place in other M
There's gonna be so much salt when Ridley shows up as a stage hazard. It'll be delicious.
Not really speculation, but it still amuses me to no end that the reason why Snake is explosives-focused was due to Nintendo not wanting actual bullets flying around. I honestly think they should've just left his tranquilizer gun in, letting you knock foes asleep for a few seconds on a successful hit (and doing no damage). It fires darts, though I guess it still LOOKS like just a handgun with a suppressor. Hmm... I guess the crippling fear of lead is why we probably won't see what I think would be a pretty awesome TPC, Bayonetta.
Why is it okay to have bombs, but not bullets?
Why is it okay to have bombs, but not bullets?
Apparently real guns are too violent, but stabbing people in the face with swords, blowing them up, tossing them into acid/spikes, fat guys chewing on them and then farting on them is all okay.
Explosions can be classed under cartoon violence. Can't really make a gun into cartoon violence without a flag coming out of the barrel that says "BANG!"
Because explosions just look like big balls of fire and smoke. It's big and flashy and entertaining, and most importantly it means you don't have to draw blood. Most modern explosives work concussively (the damage they do is internal), so they leave very little external injury aside from burns unless you're REALLY close. It's convenient for stylized or cartoonish settings, where they can just be like "LOL you go boom" and send you rocketing into the sky. Plus, I suppose there's a bit of a dark connotation to shooting Mario in the face with an M4. Grenades and rockets are fine though, since after all, Mario has bob-ombs and bullet bills (which are technically missiles, despite the name) to deal with back home.
Explosions can be classed under cartoon violence. Can't really make a gun into cartoon violence without a flag coming out of the barrel that says "BANG!"
What if the gun fires slower, comically large bullets?
I guess it could also do with the fact that despite the explosives Snake uses being either modern or semifuture (entirely standard real-world military faire), they don't have an appearance that immediately screams "firearm" like, say, this silhouette does: [t]http://i.imgur.com/r8JTE22.jpg[/t] Personally carried heavy and light explosives have a unique sort of appearance to them that by weaponry standards is quite exaggerated or unusual, due to the drastically different way in which they function. In most cases they're not as immediately jarring to those with gun phobias, which is perhaps why the media is much more fond of them than standard lead. The rest of the guns used in Smash Brothers are very stylized and unusual as well, looking very clearly like futuristic laser weaponry with glowing lights and spacey sounds, and not any sort of mechanical design which fires solid projectiles.
What if the gun fires slower, comically large bullets?
Then it would probably be alright. However I don't know of any any iconic weapon from a Nintendo game that does that, and even so, would it actually be useful in smash? (Closest thing I can think of are the cannons that fire Bullet Bills) I don't think we'll ever get any realistic or even semi-realistic firearms in Smash. Because real firearms usually have hitscan bullets with high damage and long trajectory which might be hard to balance without having the weapon just feel like a BB gun, and because they're usually gritty looking overall in appearance which will not fly well with the cartoony nature of Smash. Snake is probably as far as Smash will go with realistic characters and what type of weaponry they can allow. Other than that we probably can't expect any new weapons to be more realistic than the ray gun, super scope, and Fox's blaster.

This is pretty clean looking, liking the art style of the 3DS version
So, we finally see the Villager and Trainer on 3DS; photo proof for anyone who still doubted their inclusion. What interests me is the caption that came with that post: apparently the 3DS version has the option to change the width of the outlines or even turn them off entirely. I wouldn't have pegged them to implement an option like that. And remember that everyone has their own screen on that version, so I imagine people can play the same match with different settings. I wonder if that means we'll be able to turn outlines on in the Wii U version...
Well, so much for that whole Ridley thing. Guess we'll just have to wait to find out. Sakurai once again proves that he's a master troll. [editline]21st August 2013[/editline] Villager and WFT look nice on 3DS, though! [editline]21st August 2013[/editline] I bring good tidings, Facepunch! You can rest easily tonight, know that whichever characters you support, you're still smarter than this guy! (Note: I'm a Ridley supporter, so I'm not sharing this because of that. I'm doing it because he's so hilariously deluded.) It's just too easy to find stuff like this on Smashboards. So, in the Ridley discussion thread, this guy posts his “thoughts” on Ridley potentially being a stage hazard instead of a playable character:
Seriously, if Sakurai does not allow Ridley to get in the game as a playable character, then he seriously needs to retire forever from ever making a video game again. Seriously. Honestly, I could make a better roster for the Smashverse - damn, even a better video game - than Sakurai if he seriously thinks he's smarter than all of us. Ridley more than deserves to be in the next game, HE DESERVES to be in the next game. Why should Ridley always get screwed over by the likes of Jigglypuff or Ness/Lucas? Sakurai is probably laughing in his sleep over how many times he's trolling everybody over this..... Sakurai seriously doesn't understand the Metroid series. He just doesn't understand. At all. When you have Sakurai giving more representation to small-time series like StarFox, Fire Emblem, and EARTHBOUND, instead of a very important series like Metroid, then you know something is wrong. Sakurai has never taken the Metroid series seriously, and he shows it. Earthbound can get TWO reps, but not Metroid? Sakurai knows nothing about Samus or Ridley's history or importance, nor does he even care about their series. I'm so tired of Sakurai ****ting all over the Metroid series like this because he thinks he's better than everybody else. His arrogance seriously reeks of arrogance. All I'm saying is this, and it's the truth and nothing but the truth - if Ridley does not get into the Smashverse this year, then Sakurai knows nothing about anything. I'll probably done with Smash entirely, because there's no point in continuing to play these games if Sakurai clearly doesn't care about his audience. I never liked Sakurai's recent direction with the Smash series, what with questionable decisions, but now it's getting worse and worse. Seriously, I'm so sick and tired of Ridley being treated like this. *End rant* Wheeeew.......I'm just a bit angry, that's all... I need to let some steam out..... Wheeeeeeeewww.......... We diehard Ridley fans need to go out there and LOUDLY voice our support for Ridley! Tell Sakurai and his team to stop treating Ridley, and the Metroid series, like garbage just because it makes him feel better about himself. We will not tolerate this injustice!!! Give Ridley a chance!!!!!
I would bold the funny parts, but the entire post is a funny part. So, people in the thread tell him that he's overreacting. He responds with this:
Am I not allowed to speak my opinions? Whatever happened to freedom of speech?
Yes, that is indeed the “freedom of speech” defense we've all come to know so well. People try to explain how freedom of speech works, as well as deconstruct his first post. One person jokingly suggests that they boycott the game because Ridley won't be playable. This guy apparently doesn't get the joke:
That's it... we SHOULD boycott Sakurai! That's what we need to do! If Sakurai supposedly listens to voices, then he wouldn't be able to silence the loudness of ours. If this makes sense, then let us silence our voices so it would equal the loudness of what we want to say. Namely - do NOT buy anymore products from Sakurai until Ridley becomes playable. From this day forward, I BOYCOTT SUPER SMASH BROS 4 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Now if you excuse me, I'll go make a petition. Good day. I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow. Maybe Sakurai will change my mind.
He's slowly descending into madness, folks. Everyone says “good luck with that,” and one guy pretends to go along with him. This follows:
LOL :) I'm going to use Petition.org and make a "We Want Ridley!" petition. The petition will say we will boycott all sales of SSB4 and beyond UNTIL Ridley gets put into the game. When we get enough support through votes, I'll tweet this to Sakurai and see whether or not he will bend to our will. Ridley needs all the support he can get, so let's get him that support!
More sarcastic replies about how he should totally do it.
We'll wait and see until tomorrow. And thanks for the support!
People start to realize that this guy might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer. They drop the sarcasm and tell him that a dang petition won't do a dang thing. Then he follows with the mother of all replies:
They said the same thing with Martin Luther King Jr. boycotting for black rights. This WILL work.
Yes folks, he just compared the Civil Rights movement to requesting a character for a video game. He apparently thinks they're on the same level of importance or something. He gets pretty off topic after this post, but it's still hilarious reading his posts. Let me know if you want to see the second half.

In some of the larger stages players can wind up pretty spaced out and tiny. Remember New Pork City? If the camera were zoomed all the way out in that, the 3DS' low resolution would make characters like Pikachu only a few pixels large. In that case, why would you want to turn outlines off?

That's not the "up yours" pose.

well that's a relief. i thought that the wii u and 3ds versions would be different now i don't have to buy a wii u
I'm still buying a Wii U Not for this game specifically, but I can't imagine playing on my tiny 3DS. It'll probably break with how aggressively I clack.
I kinda hope Nintendo will be mindful of the game's balance post-release, and will patch anything particularly broken. Hell, I'd love to see them release new characters and stages as free DLC later on. There have been a lot of characters left out of Smash titles due to a lack of remaining time before release (Dedede and Mewtwo from SSB64, Snake from SSBM, Megaman from Brawl, etc), and this approach would mean they can just release characters they didn't have time for later on.
