This right here: http://smashboards.com/entries/the-super-smash-bros-roster-maker-version-6-1-available.4159/ It's a simple drag and drop system which also lets you search for characters.
Wow, this is awesome. But you can't add new characters?
Wow, this is awesome. But you can't add new characters?
I think there actually is a way to add new characters under the "File" menu. I haven't used it, though.
I think there actually is a way to add new characters under the "File" menu. I haven't used it, though.
I had to manually add Tiki, a mantekete who has been in several Fire Emblem games, to the program. You have to make the icons yourself as well as naming the new file a certain way.
My dream roster:
You're ALL forgetting this legendary character from Nintendo history. BUDDY [sp]Just kidding, it's Mike Aruba[/sp]
here you go
More seriously, by making my joke rosters, I asked myself a pretty important question. Do you guys think Rob will be back ? I don't really see him staying because he was too unpopular as well as being a novelty character, but he had a very good skillset that couldn't possibly be ported to a new fighter. What do you think ?
ROB isn't in any danger. He's been an easter egg in Nintendo games for years. The people who are saying he should be cut are probably just little kids who don't know anything about video game history.
Bowser confirmed to be removed because he isn't in Super Mario Bros. 2, it's more recent than the original, them's the breaks.
One, you're wrong, he was in SMB2 (since smash is developed in Japan, we're going by SMB2/'Lost Levels' rather than SMB2/Doki Doki Panic) Two, Bowser isn't from a franchise which is both cripplingly unsuccessful and dead for more than half a decade.
I disagree, I don't really see R.O.B. sticking around. I'm not sure exactly why, though. He might get in, he might not, all I really know is I'll be a little surprised if he does.
I think if Mr Game and Watch comes back he'll come back as well.
I was going to say [sp]I like Lucina, why wouldn't anyone want her instead of Marth, but then I realized Lucina was technically Marth in FE: Awakening[/sp] (FIRE EMBLEM AWAKENING SPOILER)
To be fair, Nintendo was completely fucktarded about keeping the lid on that secret, and I can half-expect a trophy that reveals it.
My I-can-dream-team, since everyone else is doing it these days: I'm aware Travis Touchdown is practically impossible, but this is fantasy. And yes, a Dragon Quest representative. Collective gasp!
To be fair, Nintendo was completely fucktarded about keeping the lid on that secret, and I can half-expect a trophy that reveals it.
Even the game's trailer was hinting towards it ...
I'm aware Travis Touchdown is practically impossible
Wait, why?
Okay, here's my real one. Note: Yellow borders indicate characters from a series that I'm not sure about. -Ditto represents literally any character. I couldn't think of another one to fill that last space. -Ghirahim can be him or any new Zelda character, though I'm leaning towards him. -Ike can be either him or Roy. I can't see both of them on the same roster, especially with Chrom in the mix. -The two "Pokemon" spaces represent any possible Pokemon reps. They could be PT and Lucario, or they could be Deoxys and Zoroark. It's up in the air. -Lucas can be him or any new Mother rep. I probably still went a bit overboard, but I don't really see anyone that could be trimmed out. I'll probably be disappointed when the game comes out, but oh well.
Hey, here are some questions to open up a terrible can of worms: What do you guys feel about adding a new Mario rep? There's a large percentage of players who insist that Mario has enough reps, some even counting the DK, Yoshi, and Wario characters as Mario reps. There's an equally large one that thinks characters like Jr., Paper Mario, and of course Waluigi would make perfect reps and that Mario representation only extends to the main four. And what about K. Rool against Dixie Kong to represent Donkey Kong? Half the fanbase thinks K. Rool has been ditched by Nintendo and is no longer relevant as Dixie, who will be playable in Tropical Freeze. And half thinks K. Rool is far more important and that his villainous status and unique body and moveset potential could make for a better character. What do you guys think? I'm all for more Mario reps and K. Rool btw
Wait, why?
Half of what makes him an interesting character is how absurdly vulgar and crass he is. He'd either need to be silent or have half his dialog censored, and that'd be no fun. :v:
And what about K. Rool against Dixie Kong to represent Donkey Kong? Half the fanbase thinks K. Rool is a more viable decision.
K. Rool seems like he'd have a pretty decent moveset right off the bat as well. Give him every move he's used during boss fights (his cannon musket for Side+B, for instance) and you're set. As for more villains in general, why not Bowser Jr? Give him the Mario Sunshine paintbrush and maybe a Shadow Mario transformation, and his final smash could be koopa clown car + minions.
I thought of a totally unplausable idea that Nintendo would probably never put in the work to do, but I think it would be pretty cool. Okay, so say the Pokemon Trainer starts with the three starter Pokemon of a generation, but can get new Pokemon to fill the three spaces by grabbing droppable Mystery Balls (not Pokeballs so the two different items can co-exist). The balls can have any (or at least one from a somewhat large list of Pokemon) random Pokemon inside that is yours to keep, with Pokemon data stuck into your specific Player ID on the console. Mystery Balls would drop 15% less than CDs, so they're pretty damn rare. There's a drop-down menu on the Pokemon Trainer that lists all of your Pokemon, and you can choose three to have in your battle. Each Pokemon has a different moveset. Pokemon-Type, as well as Move-Type is taken into account in battle. Of course, each Pokemon is balanced but is somewhat unique so that everyone can play to their own style. It may be/definitely is too far-fetched for SSB, but maybe it could work with some sort of fighting game focused on Pokemon.
That would be a pain in the ASS to balance. Like, I'm not even kidding when I say that would take years to tweak.
A while ago, I had an idea that probably wouldn't work out at all in reality. I was thinking that Kirby should be able to suck up items of certain elements (e.g. Fire or Bomb), and then he would get an ability based on whatever the kind of item it was.
why are you all thinking snake is out ;n;
I probably still went a bit overboard, but I don't really see anyone that could be trimmed out. I'll probably be disappointed when the game comes out, but oh well.
Yeah, that's one thing I've been noticing about a lot of predictions, they've had way more characters than Brawl did, despite Sakurai saying that the number of characters would probably be about the same.
What do you guys feel about adding a new Mario rep? I don't really see Paper Mario happening, though he does have potential for a good moveset. As for Dixie and K. Rool, I could see Dixie being a newcomer, don't know how I'd feel about that, though. K. Rool is pretty unlikely, he wasn't even mentioned in DKCR and looks to be getting the same treatment in Tropical Freeze, though I would quite like him to get in, he could be a very fun character to play as.
why are you all thinking snake is out ;n;
More than three 3rd party characters is quite unlikely, and I'd be a bit surprised if Mega Man was the only 3rd-party newcomer. Seeing as how the next few Sonic games are Nintendo-exclusive, and MGS seems to be more prominent on other consoles, I don't really see Snake making a return. Which is a shame, he was a fun character, and I'll be slightly disappointed to see him go.
why are you all thinking snake is out ;n;
Because there's no reason for him to be in? I like him, but from a developer's perspective, he's an old third party character, his course has been run, and there are other characters that are worth putting in the game.
Because there's no reason for him to be in? I don't see any reason at all why they'd drop third party characters unless they have a good reason (losing the rights, etc). Come to think of it, why would they drop any characters at this point? They saw the immensely negative response to removing characters when Brawl came out, I don't know if they really want to repeat that and create more negativity, especially while they're working closely with the fighting game circuit (the biggest consumers of the series) [editline]t[/editline] On a lighter note, I'd still love to see Platinum representation in Smash 4, most notably Bayonetta. One or more members of the Wonderful 100 would be awesome too, or heck, why not all 100 of them in an assist trophy? Porting MGS Rising to WiiU as an excuse to get Raiden in would be great as well.
What exactly defines a "reason" for a character being in the game, and how does a character have "no reason"
The subject of Snake being put into the next Super Smash Bros from a developer's perspective: PROS - Will avoid having the minority of Smash players being upset that Snake isn't in the game - Might cater to an older audience of video game players CONS - Takes time to make characters, important to reach deadline and avoid rushed development - There are many other deserving characters that have never been in a SSB game - There's a bigger demand for other third-party characters than Snake - Isn't important to the Nintendo franchise--remaining in more than one game could skew the Nintendo fighter concept of the game But whatever. Here's my prediction based on pure uneducated sense, if that humors you: Snake will not be in SSB4. Don't get me wrong, I love Snake. I have a ton of fun playing with him. But talking realistically? I just don't think they'll put him in.
But... Asset reuse costs virtually no development time. That's why some modern franchises are able to put out blockbusters on a yearly basis. As an example... Say you're a series developer, Smash 5 is being developed, and you want Megaman to be included again. Here's how to do that: > Examine existing assets and compare with the next game's recognized formats. If they match perfectly, straight-port and update the visuals. You're done. > If there are differences in the engine or in the types of files needed, assess the differences and begin to compensate for them. > Usually you'll have a program available that can adapt content to a newer engine, so use that and update the visuals once it's working in the new engine. You're done. > If not, convert the filetypes used in the older engine to raw values which can be plugged into equivalents in the new filesystem. Update visuals once this process is complete. You're done. Literally the only reasons why third party characters would be left out are the developers' opinions on the characters themselves, their balance, or their relevance. Development time is not a factor here.
