They just need to fix it so that he can cancel his roll move more easily (both in the air and on the ground). That way it can be used to gain distance on enemies quickly and you won't accidentally suicide with it a lot.
People talk about character balance but the real thing they failed at in Brawl was moveset balance. A lot of moves for certain characters were damn near completely useless and some of them were extremely overpowered (Pit's forward+B and Meta Knight's tornado for instance)
The roll move is pretty easy to cancel, if you press B he comes out of it, no matter what. It's just not useful at all, either way. It's also not something Yoshi's ever done and doesn't really make sense.
Definitely agree on the second point. No intelligent Ness player ever uses PK Flash, Samus's bombs are incredibly situational, Dedede's jet hammer is 100% useless, DK's side+B has little application, etc.
As well as that, there's just too many moves that are arbitrarily not very good. Why are Mario's fireballs so slow and so weak? Pikachu's B is literally a direct upgrade. And it's not even about moveset balance, they're two moves in exactly the same place for characters that both have the same used for them, but Pikachu's is better. It's faster, and it does more damage. No reason for that of course. Why even make Mario's fireballs so slow? They weren't like that in the games.
Ness's Up Smash can't be charged. Why? No reason. Arbitrarily, he has the only smash attack in the entire game that comes out immediately and isn't chargeable. So many other smash attacks hit harder, have more reach, more range, more everything. But for some reason, Ness has this shitty little yo-yo swing that has to be timed perfectly. There's no good reason for that. It's just an oversight. I'd go as far as to say that about 30% of Ness's moveset is useless. Thunder is only good for recovery and even attempting to use flash for anything other than edgeguarding a bad player will get you killed, and as well as that, PSI Magnet only helps with a very particular variety of projectiles (against some characters it literally can't be used for anything) and that's just his special moves. PK Fire is his only special move that should be used regularly.
So much about the movesets in the game are arbitrary, and there's a lot they could do with Ness to improve his medium range game. And I hope they do, instead of just sticking to what they're always done that hasn't been useful or interesting, like they so unfortunately have repeatedly done.
I hope they keep ROB, even though he was a weird newcomer last game. He's my main character.
In fact I hope they have at least the same number of characters as in Brawl, since I like variety and I use almost every character.

R.O.B has a really unique, fun playstyle. It'd be a travesty if he misses out.

If the animation after cancelling was fast enough that you could do an attack afterwards without being vulnerable, it would be useful.
Its going to be in there don't you worry.
what seems to be overpowering about him at this stage?, need to know for balancing and what not.
Well, his attacks seem to be too powerful for his speed. I think his movement and attack speed should stay, as well as his jump height--it's something that sets him apart from other characters. Reduce the damage and impact of all his attacks (think Kirby), and to compensate, you should improve his throwing ability a lot (considerably more than Captain Falcon's) and slightly improve his range.
Yoshi's Egg Roll is probably based on an ability he used in Yoshi's Story, where you could go into an egg and fling yourself around. So it IS something he's done before.
I don't want this to sound dumb or anything, but seeing skull kid in this new smash brothers would be pretty cool.

I would love to see him, if not for the fact that he would basically ruin Mask Link's chances of getting in.
they should make one character that's not in the 3ds version for the wii u, and then one character that's in the 3ds version that's not in the wii u version.
i'm thinking too much.

I could deal with it if they actually did that, but why would anyone WANT certain characters restricted to a seperate version? stages are enough already imo

Because I would rather have two Smash Bros games that play to each console's strengths and celebrate the games on handhelds and consoles for each respective game?

Yet at the same time you deny a huge amount of content to anyone without out the money, consoles or who just don't want to buy both versions.

That's like saying if you buy Kid Icarus Uprising, you don't get all the content in Wind Waker HD.
They'd be different games.
Anyways, neat, a new character before the 12th of a month. Even if it is probably going to be a clone. Semi-clone. Whatever.
I guess it's nice to have expectations defied but...
Eh. Never was a fan of Toon Link
HOLY SHIT YES
That was unexpected. [sp]oh who am i kidding[/sp]
I hope they change his moveset to include more Wind Waker items. Never played the game but I don't want him to be Link But Toon. Surely there's enough content in WW and other Zelda games to make a completely different character out of Toon Link.
I love the detail they're putting into these models
What a shocker
I'm going to be upset if Toon Link is just a slightly modified Link again.
I would like to see his items in Wind Waker get some use, there's a lot of potential with them.

The bow and bombs are in, but give us the deku leaf and the grappling hook
I hope Toon Link gets a stage that sits still this time. The pirate ship was a cool idea, but I'd personally prefer a more traditional stage for Toon Link this time. Like Dragon Roost Island. Dragon Roost Island would make a cool stage.
The bow and bombs are in, but give us the deku leaf and the grappling hook
I like the deku leaf. Perhaps it could replace his forward B boomerang, used as a recovery method when executed while airborne, and when stationary it sends out a horizontal gust of strong wind (like the tree in green greens) in the direction you're facing which could be used to counter projectiles or to push enemies away from the ledge.
His windwaker has some potential too especially since it's his most iconic item, perhaps his final smash could be to use the "Ballad of Gales" to summon a tornado.
All right, Toon Link! And while this also practically killed Masked Link's chances of geting in, I'm okay with it.
I wonder if two reveals every month is going to be the new norm. I'd be okay with that. The more hype, the better. Next month sees the release of Pokemon X and Y and Sonic: Lost World. Could it be...?

I'm really disappointed that this pretty much confirms no mask link, I'll be less upset if he's actually a unique character instead of a faster link

Not really, more like if you buy Pokemon X you don't get all the content in Pokemon Y.
They are the same game, just different playable characters.

I'd love to see the Hurricane Spin replace his Up-B, complete with the sweet sword glow after a full charge. Pretty much the same duration as adult Links spin attack but with the traditional long winded scream that comes with the hurricane spin and obviously some left and right control if performed on the ground.
I also demand one of his taunts having him balance a pear on his head.
I'd like him to be able to glide with that leaf. His final smash should make use of wind.
