Sonic fans are cursed to never be happy again, as punishment for ruining DeviantArt.
At least he'll always be a vaguely relevant 90's pop-culture icon.

I liked the detail for Brawl and Melee. It kind of stood out and said "this is how everyone looks in super smash bros".
I liked Yoshi's thinner Melee design more. His Brawl version just looks a little too plump.

I like the Brawl design more, plump = cute
I hope Snake returns too. His presence is just funny because of how unlike he is to the other characters.
i broke down crying with laughter when i first saw snake's neck-snapping move
like holy crap that does not belong in the game at all.
To be fair, wouldn't getting slashed a few hundred times in a second by a sword with smaller blades attached to it hurt a lot worse? Or being crushed by a 4500 pound turtle creature? What about getting electrocuted non-stop, or frozen in a solid chunk of ice?
Snake's downright humane alongside some of his competition.

He looked kind of grotesque, how shiny he looked.

So... I'm still really intensely curious about what Megaman and the Villager's final smashes will be.
I mean, Megaman's could possibly be Flash Freeze / Time Stopper - Flashman's power - which would briefly completely freeze all opponents in time, allowing Megaman to rack up huge damage on them before the effect wears off and, depending on how much damage he does before then, could send them rocketing off the stage.
Villager though... What COULD it be? I actually can't think of a single thing.

Except yeah maybe bees, but how would that function? Homing final smashes are so obnoxious.

While Rush Adapt is pretty rad, I don't want to see yet another "Basically the same but more powerful" final smash.
Unless you want to give it dramatically different mechanics, which would go completely against how he works in SSB4 (every power works the same way as in his games)
I really look how Sonic looks.. 'Right', now. I saw someone on Sonic Retro say he always looked odd in Brawl, but looking between the two via some images, it falls into line with the fact of Brawl's more realistic style and darker colors. And Sonic just plain looked weird. Here he looks properly and brightly colored, like he does in Lost Worlds, and it comes off as a lot more.. Sonic. v:v:v
Reminds me of how awful Sonic looked in that fan film on youtube.
Sonic is not something to be put in high detail, cell shade is best for him. Obviously his brawl texture wasn't nearly as bad as the fan film, but its the same concept.
Though that was more of the Smash art style's fault, Im glad they dropped it.
They should make Mega Man's final smash Rain Flush
where he humps the air and it rains
I was reading Miiverse, and found it hillarious that the people who were against Sonic being in Smash Bros 4 are now claiming SEGA brainwashed Sakurai.

why haven't we seen any alternate colours for characters yet

It looks like he has fingernails under those gloves... Which doesn't look right.

They never show alternate colors in normal screenshots, remember the Dojo? They had an entire update for different pallets.
I won't say this with full certainty, but I could see Snake being left out simply because he's significantly more realistically designed than all the other characters and the new more bright and colorful art direction. Not the only reason, but one of the reasons.

By this logic they would've removed Kirby and all the Pokemon from Brawl

Just because something works one way doesn't mean it'll work the other, so no.

I'm just saying, they seem to be going for a brightly colorful and more cartoony than high detailed approach this time. A character with realistic proportions/weaponry clad in gray would be in a pretty strong contrast to everything else, and as far as I know there are no recent MGS games on Nintendo platforms that would make him still relevant enough to be worth redesigning.

They released MGS3 on 3DS
And it's more bright and colourful but that doesn't mean it's less detailed, you only need to look at Link, Donkey Kong or Fox to see that

It's detailed in a less realistic way then, compare Mario's pants in Brawl to Mario's pants in the new Smash.
So because of the less realistic detailing, alongside wearing very dull colors, having significantly more realistic proportions and weapons than the majority of all the other characters, and most importantly being a third party character with the most recent title not being developed for WiiU... I see him as the least likely candidate of all Brawl veterans to make a return. Not impossible, but least likely.
Mario and Luigi changed in that way, but no one else did, it's just them and that's to make them fit with the way they look in all of their games now
just about everyone else is the same except Link because instead of making him full Twilight Princess they're mainly basing it on that style but still letting it be similar to other, more popular iterations like the NES games and Ocarina of Time. It's always been kind of implied that the Link in Super Smash Bros is kind of a combination of the many different Links, such as Link having a fairy in Brawl despite that being Ocarina of Time's thing, and now, his artstyle being a bit more neutral in comparison to Brawl and Melee, which were essentially just pulled straight from Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time respectively
You may think Snake won't be included but that's not a good reason to think so. Snake has no less Nintendo significance now than he does when Brawl came out, and Sakurai said he doesn't want to cut characters because of how doing so was received from Brawl to Melee.
IMO I don't think he has as much significance now as he did first in brawl. I think of Brawl as his minutes in the spotlight, but after having payed those respects and no titles for the WiiU being relevant, and his character design in general clashing horribly with the new direction... If absolutely any characters from Brawl are being cut, all my bets are placed on him.
