Nah. Why not give an additional three to four level bonus campaign after you beat them all, in which you can use any character?
I'm not talking something as big as SSE scope here. These would just be brief singleplayer experiences as each character to teach you what they're all about, adding up to the SSE's breadth in TOTAL, but having nothing to do with eachother. Oh, and it'd also be how you unlock characters. Play through Mario's to unlock Luigi, play through Fox's to unlock Falco, play through Falco's to unlock Wolf, play through Link and Zelda's to unlock Ganondorf...

Okay that makes sense. In that case, each mini-campaign shouldn't come consecutively after the last, right? Meaning, you wouldn't have to beat Luigi's campaign to unlock another character's, but instead each campaign would come in a list where you could pick from any.
I think that would be good. But I'd really like to see something where the campaign is brought home to an endgame where every character is a part of the same story. It wouldn't make the characters seem separated, and I think it would go right along with the Smash Bros feel. Yeah, a couple of bonus stages where you can choose any characters would do it, and then I guess it would culminate in some epic cinematic.

Well no, not quite that. It'd work like the Adventure Mode from Melee; Pick Adventure, pick your character, pick your difficulty, press start, play their campaign.
And yes, some unlockable characters have campaigns that unlock other unlockable characters. It would make sense for franchises that feature two unlockables. So for instance... The best way to do the path to Toon Link would be complete Link and Zelda to get Ganondorf, complete Ganondorf to get Toon Link.
It would keep you playing because there's always that nagging feeling of "What if beating this will get me another new character? I have to try it!", and as a result you unlock and use and get good with all the characters.

Oh yeah, and you have to beat the campaigns of all first-party characters to unlock Megaman, and beating his unlocks Sonic, but from there...
Add Board the Platforms and Race to the Finish and I will be content.

Megaman should come after Sonic.

They would be part of certain characters' campaigns. For instance, the second to last area for Samus would be a race-to-the-finish escape sequence in true Metroid fashion, and the first portion of Link's would be a break the targets stage as his training.
ROB's final stage would be board-the-platforms-based Gyromite :v:
Everyone talks about Snake coming back, but I don't want Snake.
I want Big Boss. aka every move is a grab and a neck snapper

And wearing the Fruit Camo from MGS 3D
for character predictions i legitimately think someone from the fire emblem awakening game on 3ds will make it in. The game is hella popular and afaik melee/brawl both have a fire emblem character?

Both of them had Marth. He'll definitely return in Smash 4.
Dunno who the other character would be, I kinda don't think Ike will come back.
maybe i'm just salty because I don't have any attachment to any characters that are only on a nintendo home console (olimar for example) but I want more DS specific characters but I can't think of anyone who would have a serious chance of making it in. Phoenix Wright would of been possible but Mega Man is already in the game and I feel Capcom wouldn't be allowed to have two dips in the sauce tray. Agent Spin from Elite Beat Agents would of been possible if the popularity of the game matched how critically acclaimed the game was.
If Toon Link freaking comes back I'm expecting no cuts unless it was at the last minute addition. Toon Link was one of the most obvious choices to be cut and he came back before Sonic did. I'm more worried about actually seeing more new comers like King K. Rool and Dixie (Both of them, no matter what next Smash game we will see requests for another DK character from these two, might as well finish them off now), Toad, Ridley and him not being as small as people say but actually the biggest character, and most importantly new franchises like Little Mac and Issac which are musts, then followed by characters like Saki, Starfy, Shulk, and retro characters. If Sonic also becomes a permanent stay I wouldn't mind seeing Tails, Knuckles, Eggman, Shadow, or even Amy as future characters (preferably just Tails for this addition).

Probably Chrom although Lucina is insanely popular thanks to the fact that you can marry her so I wouldn't put it past Intelligent Systems to request one or both to be in.
If they remove Ike with his unique moveset but keep fucking Toon Link then I'll be pissed, though.
I would love to have Chrom, Ike, and Lucina/Marth all on the same roster but I just can't see Ike hanging on if Chrom comes into play.

Keyword. Toon Link is back, but he's back just as Wind Waker becomes highly relevant again with the HD remake on the WiiU.
I wouldn't put his return as a sign that all other Brawl characters are still relevant.
Pic of the day. Excuse me, but I didn't just hear you say "Sonic joins the battle," did I?
Would be cool if Toon Link had his Mirrorshield as his standard shield.
I think they're going for what's most recognizable, hence the Hyrulian Shield on Link.
Smash in general focuses on recognizability (fuck you that's a word) rather than having each character at their most powerful form.

You're kind of relying on Sakurai having the slightest bit of logic to his character inclusion decisions and I think absolutely all the evidence should tell you that's not true
If you imply that there's no reasonable way to predict what might happen because all the decisions are illogical, we might as well not have any speculation here at all to talk about :v:

You can speculate all you want, but just know that it doesn't, and probably won't necessarily mean anything. It's just fun, and gets us all excited for a game we're looking forward to. However, talking about what won't be in the game rather than what will is another thing entirely. That's the negative approach, and it's just as weightless and less likely to mean anything as every other fun, creative, I-came-up-with-a-whole-moveset-for-a-background-character speculation.
oh shit Ape Escape
Nintendo be stealin' Sony reps.

Seeing Bomberman just reminded me of the PS2 game "Dreammix TV World Fighters".
Sorta like Smash Bros except it had characters like Tyson from Beyblades, Solid Snake, Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bomberman and Simon Belmont along with some other characters that are from Japanese things. It was released in 2003 and was Japan only. I played it at my cousin's house a few times though.

Yeah but if we can speculate about what makes some characters likely, we must also speculate why they'd be more likely than others, or why others might be less likely.
If we don't keep any standards on what is unlikely, then we'd only have a circlejerk of fantasy crossovers of mario vs masterchief, spongebob and captain kirk
No, but really, we should have Captain Kirk.
what do you think of my new avatar Smash Bros General

TAS wavedashing is always nice.
Pleasantly reminds me of this

Wavedashing and L Canceling is the exact reason I avoided Tournaments, always felt like a game exploit that people were okay with.
