In Smash 64 it outright removed lag. Oh, and it really improves the pace of the game.
Improving pace is irrelevant, it's a mechanic that offers virtually no depth. There are so few times where not L-cancelling is preferable to L-cancelling that it might as well not even be a mechanic and instead just be automated so the players can focus on other things instead of some arbitrary and untaught "skill" that just happens to be in the game. L-cancelling isn't intuitively taught either, so it's just an artificial barrier between players who know and players who don't. You can't expect everyone to look up these things online even if they have internet access, the game should be a sufficient teaching tool for base mechanics; let combos and tactic be learned by the collective community and allow them to communicate via internet instead of requiring that same collective communication for learning how to control their character at a base level.
Precisely. The mechanics of your game should create a "Zero-Positive" scale (all new players are on roughly the same level and move up with experience), but L-canceling creates a "Negative-Zero" scale, in which new players are at a complete outright disadvantage until they learn something about the game that brings them up to par. There is no reason for that. Metagame or not, that is bad mechanical design, even if it WAS intended. Basically, your game should not have a mechanic that removes a skill advantage a player might have if they can't master a very specific maneuver. L-canceling outright makes you more efficient, and as such an average player aware of it versus a good player who isn't will almost always result in the average player winning. It overrides general skill, and that is bad bad BAD.
He's talking about how Nintendo's rendition looks better than Sega's official one, not the other way around.
Well honestly, Sonic might as well be a Nintendo character now. *que sonic fanboy rage*
Are those spikes on Sonic's head supposed to be like hair or are they like... fleshy and stuff?
They're supposively his quills. But what I dont get is there are real animals in the sonic universe, along with freaky...sonic-ish animals. Its very odd to think about.

I mean yeah his name is "Sonic the hedgehog" and all that but I always thought when I was little that Sonic was a radioactive mutant hedgehog.

There's the human race, animals, Sonic-looking things, and a weird short human race called the Overlanders.
The comic canon is separate from the game canon, and both are separate from some of the many different tv shows canon. And even then the game canon is more or less non-existent after the Adventure games kind of fucking everything up by introducing humans and places that aren't islands with geometrical patterns in the dirt to the series.

Retcons a lot of Adventure 2. There isn't a shred of sonic game canon. Its even hard to believe the adventure game's events happened with how the game is now.
And then there's Sonic '06. But that's a tale for another time and topic. It seems Sonic hits a little harder than he did in Brawl, but here's hoping his attacks don't feel so stiff compared to other characters. That always bugged me, even as my main; every attack felt really.. Off.
No, but really, we should have Captain Kirk.
If he plays against a female character the round just ends there and kirk wins. Enemy character is shown sleeping in the covered bed that's in the background.
Sonic looks exactly the same as he has appeared in many recent games. This is his unleashed appearance which carries over to colors, generations, and lost world. However there's some weird proportions going on possibly to make him look a bit less gangly compared to the other members of the cast or to remind players of classic sonic, maybe reflecting how his moveset is based on a combination of modern techniques and classic ones. His head appears weirdly squished though.
It does look like a mix of the Modern and Classic Sonic, like Link is a mix of two of his latest designs. Wonder if Zelda will have the same mix. Or even other characters.
I was hoping to see a kind of Mix of Zelda and Sheik, it gets tiresome seeing all the women wearing these ridiculous dresses in a fighting game
I was hoping to see a kind of Mix of Zelda and Sheik, it gets tiresome seeing all the women wearing these ridiculous dresses in a fighting game
I really doubt that's going to happen, and I don't see why you'd have a problem with them wearing dresses. Peach and Zelda's iconic outfits are dresses and Smash Bros is concerned about being iconic.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/IEHIom3.jpg[/t] Now this I didn't expect.
I thought this was the next SSB4 character reveal for a moment, I was about to shit myself.
I thought this was the next SSB4 character reveal for a moment, I was about to shit myself.
Out of joy or disgust?

I think more than anything I'd like to see a Zelda/Sheik combination in a Zelda game first. I'd also like to see them add some non-dress wearing women such as Captain Syrup.
Out of joy or disgust?
Absolute joy.
I thought this was the next SSB4 character reveal for a moment, I was about to shit myself.
If only, I included him on my SSB4 roster prediction. v:v:v
Other than Megaman, I really hope I get at least one character that I can get really hyped for. Villager and Wii Fit Trainer look hilarious but I'm not really excited for them. The problem is it's highly unlikely that we'll get more than three to five more new characters, maybe not counting Fire Emblem since Ike is probably going to be dropped.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/IEHIom3.jpg[/t] Now this I didn't expect.
That fucking dog. I wouldn't hate him as a character, but I'd expect him more as an assist trophy.
