The lighting and detail on the plane look absolutely fantastic.
Looks like they're finally doing dynamic shadows, or at least level-casted shadows, instead of character's shadows phasing through the ground and every surface beneath them. :v:
We're always talking about competitive play in this thread. Is that all there is to SSB now? I just don't have any interest in competitive SSB, or competitive gaming in general.
i don't think its talked about that much, and theres not really much else to discuss with the lack of character announcements. i think most people prefer to play SSB casually. i don't go out of my way to study the intricacies of the mechanics or anything but i like to play it somewhat seriously and fairly
What determines a comp stage or not? I'm guessing horrible movement ones, such as the Donkey Kong level on Brawl, or levels with stage hazards. Is that it?
Unfair stage hazards, obvious advantage to a certain category of character, or any stage with big stalling possibilities.
You know if they do a boss rush like in SSBB on the 3DS then I want: [t]http://fiftygames.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/fawful.jpg[/t] This cheeky motherfucker to be a boss.
on the subject of hazards and fairness: a stage like halberd, in brawl, is rooooughly fair because its obstacles, the laser, bomb, and claw, are all shown before happening. the bomb launches (and moves slowly), the laser takes a long time to lock on, the claw is seen moving around (though who it hits is random). this is vs. spear pillar, where the obstacles are more random, not telestrated nearly as obviously, and often has no-win conditions: i.e. when the lower level is covered in a laser, if you happen to be down there, you're hosed! instead of everyone being on a roughly even playing field in halberd. you can like playing on both, sure, but spear pillar contains some inherent higher level of bullshit than halberd, which contains some inherent higher level of bullshit than a stage like yoshi's island (brawl) or smashville or final destination.
The Wind Waker stage also has cannonballs and a practically instadeath spring that pop up a lot.
Smashville is a fair stage, as the only random factor to it is the moving platform, which only sometimes helps. Just about anything else besides Battlefield, Final Destination and MAYBE Lylat Cruiser is a no no.
Only thing that is supposed to stay largely the same between them is the characters. Levels will be all different, and it sounds like the different modes will be way different too.
That's kind of a bummer. I don't want to buy a lame ass wii u just to play smash bros.
That's kind of a bummer. I don't want to buy a lame ass wii u just to play smash bros.
you're cruisin' for a bruisin' pal
It is expensive, but it's not lame.
There's not really any killer apps except smash bros coming up. All of the other games are just shitty ports.
There's not really any killer apps except smash bros coming up. All of the other games are just shitty ports.
the wall is fast approaching but there's still time to slow down There's a pile of good games on the way. I'm hyped for X, to name one example.
I just want a sequel to Twilight Princess, since the ending kind of set itself up for it and I'm still not over Midna. [sp]No, I'm serious.[/sp]
theres plenty of good looking wii u games that aren't ports, have you looked into the wii u at all?
No I haven't actually. Name some good exclusives.
Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Lego City Undercover (theres a 3DS game but the Wii U version is for the most part completely different) off the top of my head. Super Mario 3D World comes out in 2 months. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is kind of an Exclusive I guess. it's on the 3DS as well, but the Wii U version is the only one with online co-op Although I think the Wii U megathread could give some better answers than I could.

Super Mario 3D World is already on the 3DS though. Why buy it again?
Super Mario 3D World is already on the 3DS though. Why buy it again?
You're thinking of Super Mario 3D Land, different game yo.
Super Mario 3D World is already on the 3DS though. Why buy it again?
3D world and 3D land are different games, and 3D world will be much different than 3D Land, despite using the same basic setup. I don't know why you'd think they would be the same game???
I'm buying a WiiU after my birthday next week solely for 101 and smash, of course i'll get others though. 3D World and 3D Land is a lot like super Mario Land (although Super Mario Land 2 would be a better choice to compare) and Super Mario World. Both play similarly but are different games. I'd reccomend looking at some of the new trailers. It looks really good.
no offense dude but you're living under a rock
Well I haven't really been into Nintendo for a while. I just recently got a 3DS. Gimme a break. I'm catching up.
