SSB64's theme is trippy 90's computer generated beats and stuff mixed in with Nintendo music.
It didn't have an identity because no one knew what it would be yet.
I think it would be much, much better with better brass. The trumpets/whatever they are sound kind of off.

i.e. digital, like every other trumpet used in Nintendo music (I'M LOOKING AT YOU HOENN)
excusing skyward sword, Nintendo always uses digital trumpet sounds, which are among the most obviously simulated of the various digital instruments

The Galaxy games/Super Mario 3D Land also use real orchestras/big bands

Remember that it's just a theme recreation, the guy probably does them with a music program like most. The actual trailer theme sounds quite a bit different in instrument quality.

Looks like we're back to boring daily pics again.

Also this is a thing I guess: http://www.gamnesia.com/news/sakurai-is-recorded-by-camera-while-he-works-doesnt-like-it Sakurai is apparently recorded while he works:
It remains as an accurate recording. The people under supervision can check over and pick up things that would become blurred in something like a written memo.
Everything I say or talk about is recorded as is, but to be honest, it doesn't feel very good. You know how most people don't really like listening to [a recording of] their own voice?
That sounds really unsettling, and stressful
That sounds really unsettling, and stressful
It doesn't sound that necessary either. What's the problem with having someone write down what Sakurai says?
I think the purpose is that they know that Sakurai is always working at full capacity. I'm pretty sure that Nintendo runs their devs like slaves during this time of the year, Sakurai more than anyone.
Not related to Super Smash Bros 4, but an announcement video regarding Project M.

This makes me wish I had brawl back.
Does project M have full CPU support? If so, is it modified for the new moves/more difficult?
I'd like to know because I want to try the mod but have no friends to play with.
Holy shit that revamped Samus.
They showed that Metroid can indeed crawl.
Fuck. Now I'm depressed, I can't shake the feeling Samus in the new Smash Bros is going to be mediocre again.

Yeah, the AI is fully supported and is actually greatly improved upon. Level 9s can actually be pretty difficult as they're able to pull of advanced techniques like L-cancelling, wavedashing, powershielding, and of course they have perfect timing. They also edge guard properly and in general use moves more efficiently.
They still retain a few brawl habits (e.g. wario trying to recover with bike even though there's no bike), but overall they are pretty fun and sometimes challenging to fight against.
If I may go out of my way for a moment to say...
... I hope they include this remix in the Galaxy and Mario 3D Land stages.

That is really cool
Except for the fact that I am an European with a PAL copy of the game
Eh i don't like the look of it
the absurd combo system of melee just gives it a ridiculous skill ceiling and makes it impossible for some people to enjoy the game, sure it's good to watch but I'd take Brawl any day
Watching that trailer for a second time, it doesn't look like it'd be fun playing Project M with tourney players or those that worked on the mod itself, especially since they worked on it and probably know every combo and moveset by heart.
You wouldn't be able to beat them; you'd be spending your time just getting juggled around and never landing a hit.
I like the simplicity of vanilla Smash Bros. and I'll stick to playing that. But the new costumes look really neat.

The new costumes and characters are pretty much 95% reason why I care about Project M.

Can't the same be said with just about any game though? I mean if you go up against someone who has obsessed themselves over a game to learn every nuance, they're going to kick your ass up and down regardless.
That being said, I would NEVER want to play with tourney players or play in tourneys for any game, the over competitiveness and the involvement of cash prizes usually sucks the fun out of things quick.

Sakurai knows what the fans want?
What's with that blue light in the top left? It looks like Marth's soul is leaving his body and ascending into the heavens.
I can't see any blue light. Do you mean the water?
Oh, duh. That'd be it. That's what I get for commenting so early in the morning.

those are waterfalls doof
I play Project M with my brother and it's more fun in my opinion. A tourney player could easily kick our ass in just five seconds though.
It's not like once you install project M, you're only going to be playing against tourney people.

What I like about it is that it strengthens certain characters so that they can't just get hopelessly juggled.
I'd still wish they'd tweak Project M to make it more inclusive: stuff like toggles for tripping, air-dodge mechanics, fight physics, even some SSB64 stuff like no side-B attacks or forward/back throws only. Sort of an amalgam of all three rather than just "let's make Brawl like Melee," because that really just puts all that new content they're making to waste for those of us who prefer another Smash game over Melee. And then they can use that logo I made.

Yes and yes.
[editline]20th November 2013[/editline]
Also they still use the Brawl Learning AI feature so they'll adapt to what you do as well.

There's a reason it's called Project M
