I don't know, I'm not entirely shocked the villain from one Zelda game 15 years ago didn't become playable. It's rad that Sakurai realized the demand for him by putting him in as an Assist Trophy though. (I know Skull Kid was in Ocarina and Twilight Princess, but still)
obscure and lesser known characters are added to SSB all the time. [editline]7th December 2013[/editline] considering some of the weird characters that have already been in SSB games (e.g mr. game and watch, wii fit trainer, ROB) skull kid isn't even that much of a stretch.
But adding him to a series that already has 5 characters regardless of him not being that important?
Would you really say Zelda has 5? Sheik and Zelda are one character that changes forms.
Would you really say Zelda has 5? Only moves shared between them are their final smashes and the transformation itself.
Pokemon Trainer is three characters, but he only takes up one slot. Sheik and Zelda are two characters but they take up one slot. Samus and Zero Suit Samus are the same. Let's refer to characters by slot, since that's really what matters.
Shiek and Zero Suit Samus also got seperate character pages on Brawl's site.
Personally I count Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard as 3 different characters but ZSS/Samus and Zelda/Sheik are still one, because they're the same person in a different costume.
that doesn't make any sense. They play completely differently.
They're still the same character though, the 3 Pokemon are all separate beings.
They're still the same character though, the 3 Pokemon are all separate beings.
Why does that matter though? From a gameplay perspective they're all separate characters.
So how is Smashboards reacting? Is it worthy for another thread simulator?
They're actually acting rather calm about it. Even a lot of the supporters have accepted his fate. Though the most embarrassing thing I read today was before the pic was posted, when they were all talking about how they were trying to "not get too hyped" over a pic they had no idea would be of any significance. [editline]6th December 2013[/editline] There were also a bunch of essays arguing about Pac-Man's viability as a character (why he came up in that thread I have no idea), but those would make for a pretty boring video.
Why does that matter though? From a gameplay perspective they're all separate characters.
Tbh I mainly play Ivysaur. I can play them but I'm not fond of Squirtle or Charizard. I'd like the option to play as ONLY them and make the B Down liek a 1 second of invulnerability or something.
Of course people cheered for him, he also came in late to the tournament, so if rules were in place, or a deadline, I would have won anyway. To be honest, the whole thing was a bit of a mess, people would walk off when it was their turn, the homebrewed Wii froze once, and the guy in charge of the brackets would forget who was up and who won. But yes, the guy was a bit of an asshole, I think. I would have lost graciously, if it wasn't for the fact he was rubbing it in my face.
It was a mess, but in my defense I had never done anything like this prior and there were supposed to be two other people overseeing along with me. Hopefully we can pull our shit together for whatever future events we host.
With a few exceptions, when I see comp Smash players, all I can think about is the epitome of exploiting, game-breaking, absolute have-to-do-everything-the-best-and-most-efficient-way-regardless-of-anything-else no-fun-allowed people. I mean, I know that that's shitting over a ton of perfectly nice people who just like playing it competitively but "no items, fox only, final destination" is a thing for a reason.
To be honest, I wasn't sure whether or not to do a straight no items Final Destination styled competition but I figured people would complain if it was any other way.

I understood that it was a first tournament and stuff, the best thing to do is learn from this first time, and use what you learned for next time. I'd also like to help for a next Smash tournament if possible, if we can get together and collaborate, we can plan something cool as hell. As for the stages and such, for next time, it'd be easier to do stages with few or no stage hazards, like Battlefield, Final Destination, or Corneria. As for items, I personally believe they should stay off, but you could have a vote prior to the tournament. But for seriously, it wasn't a bad effort, but if you can get more people knowledgeable of the game and how it works together to brainstorm, the next tournament you do will be fantastic, I guarantee you that. Also, the next Project M update comes out next week, a Project M tournament would be exciting as well. And again, apologies if I sounded a bit antagonistic, I didn't intend for my posts to come out that way. The Tournament was overall a blast, after all, I can't say I didn't smile and cheer for everybody.
I wish their second Link was Deku Link, not Toon Link again. Would allow for a fresh moveset but, knowing Nintendo, that's not happening ever.
I wish their second Link was Deku Link, not Toon Link again. I'll be happy, I don't want another case of "It's Link, but he's shorter and better at everything."
I wish their second Link was Deku Link, not Toon Link again. Maybe his final smash could be putting on the Fierce Deity mask for a bit.
Bam, the wii is set up ready for tomorrows unprofessional brawl tournament between friends :v:
Make sure to pick Pikachu and spam dat Thunder
No thanks I value my life
I meant that in more of a "my-friends-will-literally-rip-my-arms-off-and-throw-them-out-the-window-if-I-pull-that-shit-one-more-time" way :v:
Cranky Kong officially confirmed on VGX for being the fourth playable character in Tropical Freeze. His chances for Smash went up .1%. :v: I'd laugh if Sakurai decided to undermine such a lackluster announcement by dropping a newcomer reveal on the website on Monday. [editline]7th December 2013[/editline]
I can only fear what Miiverse must be like right now.

Actually, I checked, and they're handling it surprisingly well. By Miiverse standards, at least.
This is an interesting event we have here. I checked up on Smashboards as they checked up on Miiverse. I feel like an adult watching as a second grader checks on a preschooler.

Is there some kind of way to easily implement the changes from Project M like the characters, stages, costumes, and moveset changes without implementing the Melee-esque changes? Or is that not possible. I wanna keep playing Brawl like I know how to play it, but the thought of including some neat changes to the characters along with a few new ones seems like it'll revitalize the game for my dorm room floor
I've asked that in the past; it seems like a no-go from what others in this thread have said.
Well, back when I was into Brawl hacking, I tried to do that with a few characters. Wario, Squirtle and Charizard worked perfectly fine, but Ivysaur froze upon selection. So really, it depends on what character you're trying to use. Stages and costumes worked absolutely fine, it only seems to be movesets that cause any problems.
So it'd be possible to slap together the Project M stages and such with the original movesets and physics?
I'll'll tell you something i can picture Rosalina being an assist trophy its something i can picture so clearly right now not sure what she would do something with luma's pahaps
Project M is a fucking HEAVY modification. You're going to have a lot of trouble trying to make a hybrid between that and normal Brawl unless you REALLY know what you're doing.
