Not sure how much flak I'll get for saying this, but I really don't want Miis included in the game at all. I feel like they're overused for how... useless they are, quite frankly.
With how they've been put into use across 3 of their most-current consoles by now, I'd be surprised to not see them represented in some way, to be honest.
Playable character seems pushing it, but we already know we have Find Mii-themed stage on the 3ds, we may be seeing more of them.
I mean they managed to make a character with no physical moveset at all since he's always in his vehicle and a character who's only really ever done stuff in cutscenes both have movesets for smash bros, they can pull a miracle out of their ass to give the Mii something interesting too.
What are the chances of Wonderful 101 getting some representation here? God that'd be great.
everything is closed today because new years
that's ok i didn't want to buy bravely default anyway
I kinda want a Balloon Fighter assist trophy that'd chase random players down. But it'd be unique in the fact that you can stop it by popping the balloons at the top, but the entire bottom of the character is damaging.
i want the virtual boy as a playable character

His only attack is giving everyone massive migranes

Don't tell me you don't want it
most people would think she's an OC

Man I'm gonna miss some of the alternative costumes in Project M when playing SSB4.
Guess I'm the only guy beggin' for the Duck Hunt Dog then

I wouldn't even know what his moveset would be. Although I bet Smash Bros Crusade has nailed it down

I feel like the only person who doesn't really give a fuck who gets in, as long as they have a fun move set it's all good. There's a few characters that I'd like to return but beyond that, I'm happy as long as there is something new to play with.
Happy 2014 everybody. We're now in the year of SSB4's release, assuming it doesn't get delayed.

Remember Marth and Roy?
I kinda want less obscure characters now. The appeal is starting to wear off, and I'd like to see more main-character challengers

The only character that's obscure so far is WFT I think.

Guess I didn't phrase that correctly. The newcomers (besides Megaman) were people no one could ever guess to be in SmashU. I'd like more characters that have been actively suggested.
Though by saying this we probably won't get Reggie, so I may have to take that back.
I think a reasonable amount of people predicted/expected/were not surprised by Rosalina
And Villager has been speculated since Brawl.

I totally called Villager personally, thought it was an obvious one
Wii Fit Trainer makes sense to me now that I think about it, the series is hugely popular. Rosalina was one I'd considred and thought would be cool, but I didn't think they'd actually add her.
Here's pretty much the most retro and obscure characters from nintendo: http://nintendo.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Retro_characters
The problem with these characters is none of them are more significant than another. Sheriff is the oldest one in nintendo history, but a cowboy wielding an actual pistol wouldn't work for smash... at all. Takamaru has at least shown up in more recent titles, but seems to be just another sword user. Sukapon is at least from a fighting game, but doesn't seem to be very dynamic. Plus ROB kinda already fills that 'retro robot' role imo. Duck Hunt Dog has nostalgia behind him, but why would someone want to play as a character that's a essentially just a regular dog? I'd be stumped who to pick for the next WTF/retro character.

Little Mac is the obvious choice surely? He had a comeback but still an icon of the NES.
I think the only retro and obscure characters that have a chance are the ones that are recognicable as iconic Nintendo characters or that are from franchises very iconic to Nintendo.
If the character is obscure in the sense that it was once very popular but has been forgotten, then that's a good choice, especially if they've been made more relevant again with recent releases on Nintendo platforms (WWHD, Punch-Out). If the character is obscure in that it comes from a franchise that wasn't very well known and isn't really considered a Nintendo classic and only popular to a very small number of fans, then I'd say it's not very likely.
My biggest bet right now is on Little Mac. My biggest wish right now is Battletoads.
I still want a majora's mask link that can use the 3 masks to change his playstyle.

Sakurai has shown that he can make anything work. You can expand those characters in a lot of ways.
Sheriff for instance could draw inspiration not just from his own game, but from Nintendo Light-Gun games in general. Hogan's Alley, Duck Hunt, Wild Gunman, etc not to mention the NES Zapper. You can expand on what's already in his game/personality; he's a cowboy, he can do cowboy things. Give him the Duck Hunt dog in some of his attacks. Let him set up wooden cutouts of bad guys like the ones you shoot in Hogan's Alley. Let him do cowboy things like ride a horse or use a lasso. Did you know an early success of Nintendo's was virtual clay pigeon shooting? There's got to be something you can work with there.
I mean, christ, who gave a shit about Ice Climbers or Kid Icarus before they were featured in Smash? Who thought that Rosalina or Captain Falcon would make viable fighters considering their non-existent fighting ability in their games?
It doesn't matter whether a character is popular or well-known before they get into Smash, because getting into Smash does wonders for any character's popularity. What matters is whether Sakurai can make them work.

I should have mentioned I don't count Little Mac as an obscure retro character because he had a Wii game.

Inventive! Rosalina to me is definitely an example of a character that I didn't want in at first, but after seeing her moveset, she looks like one of the most interesting characters on the roster so far. Though, I'm still having difficulty getting past that a cowboy would be one of the last secret characters revealed, if he did get in, but I do see your point.
I keep getting Rosalina and Roselia mixed up. :(

It wouldn't make sense for it not to be a cowboy.
I want to kick ass as a cowboy.
Mii should get an assist trophy similar to the excite bike AT, picks random Miis from your friends list or registered Miis along with an optional miiverse message being yelled before they charge.
What do you guys think of the idea of Professor Layton joining Smash Bros?

Every attack would be "that reminds me of a puzzle" and then the game pauses for half an hour while the opponents try to solve it
