No humor. No emotion.
I kind of want to see Master Hand as an actual, selectable character. Of course, he'd have to be locked on one-stock-stamina mode regardless of the rules. His unlock requirements would be for die-hard players, like beating Classic on Very Hard with every character and perfectly doing the bonus stages, or something ridiculous, but possible to do.
That reminds me - I preferred Brawl's method of easy character unlocks as opposed to Melee's difficult character unlocks. I'm curious how Smash 4 will handle unlocks since we already have previously unlockable characters on the site.

Then again, they've gone three games without doing that, so that mostly dismisses that fear. I do have a feeling that since there is no 'story mode' this time around, unlocks will probably be handled like in Melee but easier.
Why would they have everybody unlocked at the start? That defeats a lot of the purpose of playing.
Why would they have everybody unlocked at the start? I liked having to put in effort to unlock some characters. I remember leaving my Gamecube on over night in order to unlock Mewtwo. Not necessarily to that extent, obviously, but being able to unlock every character (with the exception of 2) just by playing the campaign felt kinda lackluster for me. Otherwise, it just feels rewarding, and I liked having to fight the character in order to unlock them which you didn't necessarily have to do for some characters in Brawl, like Sonic.
Are you some fun-hating person who only plays to unlock stuff?
No, but there should be some purpose of challenge to the game other than pure fighting. Unlockable trophies, characters, stages give you purpose to fight other than just enjoying the gameplay.
They need to make sure something like this still makes it through to the next game.

In a game like smash bros which is such a fun party game it sucks going round a friends and not having access to your favourite character.
I just find it really rewarding to see the CSS go from this: To this: [editline]11th January 2014[/editline] Then again, I mostly only ever play alone so I've never been inconvenienced by secret characters.
Solution: just have a fucking "UNLOCK ALL CHARACTERS" button in options. I wouldn't mind that. I don't like having to play the singleplayer component so much before multiplayer just to get the fucking space-bird guy.
An "unlock all content" button is a great idea. Specially useful when playing on a friend's console and you don't want to carry data around. But I do like the excitement of spending ages trying to meet certain difficult requirements, then having a tense battle with a CHALLENGER APPROACHING.

Except they always appear when I'm playing my worst character.
I know, I was just following the joke that others were making about Smash Bros subtitles being characters.
My bad, I thought it was a genuine question.
Did you guys ever finish all the challenges? Jesus christ that last stage 51 I think.
Did you guys ever finish all the challenges? Jesus christ that last stage 51 I think.
I actually never played the singleplayer challenges, however I did the coop ones with a friend. (That rainbow road challenge traumatized me)
Finished the Melee ones but never finished the Brawl ones.
I love unlocking characters, especially since in Melee, a lot of them were genuinely secret
Finished the Melee ones but never finished the Brawl ones.
Which is strange considering how much easier the Brawl ones were.
How about the hypothetical "unlock all characters" button is universally password-locked which you recieve when you unlock all the characters yourself. But, you could, in theory, look it up online once someone else has done it and the info has been circulated. That way not everyone with weak wills will want to just instantly hit the button on a whim. [editline]11th January 2014[/editline] And if you lose your data, you can just enter the password again.
nah, just an option button that unlocks everything for the duration of the session so you don't overwrite your actual progress if you'd like that, and having to click the button each time is both only a tiny inconvenience, and a noticeable enough one to give you incentive to actually unlock them
Or how about an enterable cheat code that gives you all the characters?
Or how about an enterable cheat code that gives you all the characters?
If anything, it should be a button input on the title screen. [sp]Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Select, Start.[/sp] However, I really like what DChapsfield suggested; only enabling all secret characters (and perhaps stages, too) while disabling the auto-save for that session of gameplay.
No the code is fighting 3 level 9 jigglypuffs on battlefield because who would do that
That's just a Tuesday for me.
Can I say something in all honesty. While I like that this will be on 3ds as well I think it would have been a better move to have it be a wii u exclusive. I like that it will be on 3ds but it would have been somewhat better to give the wii u a big exclusive to help it have a good selling point.

Sure, it's great that it's going to be on the 3DS, but it'll be the inferior version when it comes to just being able to sit down on the couch and play with 3 friends. The improved graphics, multiple control schemes, and Wii exclusive stages might also play a part as well. Besides, the Wii U already has plenty of exclusives, such as Super Mario 3D World, Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, and quite a few others that I can't remember atm.

All the games you listed are great games but I'm not sure they're killer app material - even Super Mario 3D World, which to the uneducated appears to be a simple clone of Super Mario 3D Land. Many people are more than happy to settle for an 'inferior version' if it means saving a couple hundred quid on a new console and it's not as if they are skimping on the 3DS content. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm always happy to see multi-platform releases but as far as business goes it just seems like a bad move.
