I dunno why everybody hates the idea of Pac-Man in smash bros that badly. I get that modern Pac-Man is really fugly but would it really be that terrible? They might just go the Megaman route and go for a classic inspired design. Hell a Pac-Man themed stage would probably look really cool. Just saying have some faith that they could make Pac-Man work.
I wish the creators of that went a bit further when it came to making it a Gameboy version of Smash. It was basically Smash 64 with pixels, rather then Smash as if it had come out in a different era. Stuff like Mario punching and kicking when he had never done that before the N64 for instance, when he could have had raccoon tail swipes, hammer swings from Donkey Kong, etc.
It's not easy to make a completely-original fighting game moveset when you have a very clear inspiration sitting in front of you that you're supposed to pay homage to.
With the Mario example, surely a man who uses his feet to stomp enemies and his fists to break blocks would use them in a fight. Both of his up attacks are based on Mario's iconic jump, his neutral attack was the fireball, down air was based on the spin attack from Super Mario World. His forward tilt was convoluted but was derived from him kicking koopa shells. That leaves his down tilt and forward/back airs to be made into things that were of the era. Of those 3. The air attacks are the only ones that are really palpable to change up to be a power from the raccoon leaf or cape feather.
The gameplay suffered from lack of moveset variety. Most moves tended to have very long startup and ending lag but hit relatively hard. And even the chipping moves were sluggish for a chipping move. I know he was trying to go for accuracy with the controls, but he could have done some moves that are sensitive whether to if it is pressed at the same time as a direction like the original Smash Bros did to discern tilts and smashes.
The original smash bros only needed 3 buttons and the analog stick. But sadly with it being digital inputs, that put a limitation on what could be done since tapjumping could no longer be a thing without removing upward attacks so that hogged one of the potential attack buttons. Timing-sensitive moves could have proven to offer more variety to movesets as opposed to making the matches rely on sluggish spacing and chipping away with the "fast" moves before hitting someone with almost any of your attacks since a majority of them tend to hit hard anyway.

If those are the newcomers for Smash Bros, I'd honestly be disappointed
Lucario getting his spot taken by Genesect due to relevancy sounds like a load of crap.
I mean, Genesect is a event legendary (so about as unobtainable as Mew, Celebi or Jirachi, which all were obtainable in past Wi-fi events) from Generation V, and we are now at Gen VI, so that would make no sense at all to get a Generation V representative, as the skipped over a Gen III representative in Brawl, and given how popular Gen VI is right now, I would think they would rather go with a Pokemon from that Generation.
After all, Nintendo seems to like putting characters in from the newest installments from some franchises, which were Pichu and Roy in Melee for Gen II Pokemon and the GBA/Elibe Fire Emblem games respectively, even if Roy's game (Sword of Seals) wasn't even released at the time! In Brawl, we had Lucario representing Generation IV Pokemon and Ike Representing the Tellius Fire Emblem games.
Unfortunately, this cycle could mean that both could be out of their spots even if they were pretty popular in Brawl, and still have relevancy in the franchises they came from. (You can obtain a Lucario in Pokemon X/Y, and like Mewtwo, he gets a Mega Evolution, and Ike gets referenced a fair bunch in Fire Emblem Awakening, with one of the characters, Priam, being a descendant of him) I hope both are still in though, as they are my favorite characters from Brawl.

Smashboards has an entire thread dedicated to these. It'd take ten pages for us to list them all and complain about how bad they are.

Pokemon characters aren't really included in Smash because of the actual game Pokemon, with the exception of Pokemon trainer. All the others are really obviously for the show.
If Pacman gets in and Snake doesn't return, I'll be upset.
I know it's very likely to happen but I'm going to be kinda disappointed if they add Chrom. He's probably one of the most boring lords in the Fire Emblem games and it'd be nice to have someone who isn't yet another swordsman.

Or rather, the popular characters from the games that get the fanservice.
Seriously, take a look at the stuff that got Megas and was in a Smash game: Venusaur (Ivysaur was in Smash), Charizard (2 megas), Blastoise (Squirtle was in Smash), Mewtwo (2 megas) and Lucario. Quite telling that only the Pikachu line, which is present in every fucking trailer for the games, and not so relevant despite the retyping Jigglypuff, are present in Smash but lack a mega.
Meanwhile, there is no gen VI equivalent of Lucario or Mewtwo, as Lucario and Mewtwo repised their roles in the gen VI games. Heck, Lucario is canonically the first Megaevolving Pokemon, and the first mega you'll use, as you are GIVEN ONE WITH THE MEGA STONE after the third gym. You are also given a Kanto starter as fanservice, they were given megas as fanservice, Charizard even got two megas, and the same can be said of Mewtwo.
Gen VI is nostalgia lane. And Pikachu, Lucario, the Kanto starters and Mewtwo were given quite a bit of a spotlight. I wouldn't say the show is everything, seeing all it is is a comercial for the games.
It doesn't matter to me who gets in or doesn't get in. SSB already has characters from all the franchises I care about; someone from Fire Emblem or Pac-man (or franchises I have no interest in and random third-party dudes) getting a slot isn't a deal breaker.
I wonder if they're gonna change any of the final Smashes of returning characters from Brawl.

I'm assuming most will be the same but a few may change.
If they don't change Falco and Wolf's final smashes we're gonna have problems

Please, please change Sonic's.
Make it a 'real' transformation like the games, even.
If they do end up adding Pacman, I hope they do like they did with Megaman and base him off his old artwork
I really, really doubt anyone wants this dude in Smash

It's like a bad kid's show.
Why do people keep hoping for another Kid Icarus character? If you wanted representation for Uprising, it'd make much more sense to have a special taunt on the KI stage where they comment on the battle for a bit. You know, like what every Kid Icarus character actually does if they're not Pit, Dark Pit for a few chapters or Magnus for a single chapter?
It's a tiny franchise that hasn't sold that much. Let's not spoil it because it's Sakurai's baby (that he's already confirmed not to make a sequel to).

My main reason I want another Kid Icarus character (Medusa) as a playable character is that I want a playable female villain.
Though if we do get a second KI character, it will probably be Palutena.

Heres the roster for Smash Bros 4

Wow, they added Landmaster, but not Landmaster?
That does it. Fuck this shit, I'm going to go write some poorly worded hate mail and form a petition on the Smashboards.
edit: matches are over
High level melee play is pretty incredible to watch.
gimmie ice climbers

The name "Disney XD" just makes me irrationally annoyed.
I actually like this design :(

I really REALLY hope Ness get's added again.
Would be fuckin nuts to not do it.
[sp]Also I really want Protoman to be playable in some shape or form becuase Protoman needs some love but we all know it won't happen ever[/sp]
The Smash 64 Roster is not gonna get dropped, it's just not happening, Yoshi, Ness, Jiggs and Falcon are pseudo confirmed.
