What's wrong with claw and tail swipes? You've also totally ignored the way he grabs samus and flies around with her, dashes horizontally, smashes the ground hard and generally just uses his size to wreck shit. What's not cool about that?
Just like Bowser and Charizard you mean?
And what make you think Meta Ridley would play like Samus? He's just regular Ridley but put back together with cybernetic parts.
Well think about it, he'd be the same pissed off dragon but with the addition of rockets and lasers and shit, give him a chargable cluster missile attack, the ability to drop bombs, and some other Space Pirate-based weapons and he could make for a more aerial, Samus-like character, seeing as he'd fly/glide instead of a double jump>screw attack
So let's not put little mac in because every other character can punch, let's not put pac man on because other characters can eat things, let's not put mega man in because other characters can jump and shoot things?
I could see Little Mac working, but Pac-Man nowadays is awfully similar to Mario, and Megaman is dead in Capcom's eyes, there's no way we'd see him in.

No, not just like Bowser and Charizard. Bowser is much less Aerial and Charizard is a third of a character. They both shoot streams of fire, not fireballs, and Charizard doesn't hit the ground or grab. Most of his moves are Fire based, where ridley would have one at most.
There's no reason he couldn't have missiles and bombs anyway, Meta Ridley didn't have those things in Metroid so there's no reason you couldn't just give them to regular Ridley.

So are you saying he should shit the bombs out and fire missiles out of his mouth? That's why I said it'd be absurd if he wasn't mechanical.
I don't care who gets in, as long as we get Chrom, and retain some of my other favorite characters.
How sentient is Ridley? I wonder, because I still imagine that would be important as a character in Smash. Like does it taunt, can it pick up and use items on the ground, would it communicate in any way with the other characters in adventure mode?
Sapient. In the official manga managed to cause a psychological breakdown to Samus via just talking. Also commands an army, has his own battleship... And is also a sadist motherfucker.
Remember the scan of Meta Ridley in Prime, and its very human-looking brain.

iirc, as sentient as any human, if not more.

Ah alright. That's enough anyone would need to know really.
If a character can fight, cooperate and communicate with other characters, and pick up and use items, then I reckon it's a fit fighter for Smash.
So are you saying he should shit the bombs out and fire missiles out of his mouth? That's why I said it'd be absurd if he wasn't mechanical.
Makes as much sense as how Samus fits her infinite supply of bombs into the suit.
He doesn't need that to be an interesting character, he can do enough to justify being a part of the game.
He doesn't need that to be an interesting character, he can do enough to justify being a part of the game.
Why would they choose a character that only does enough to justify being part of the game instead of another more interesting character?
If he gets into the game, he damn well better be interesting to play as.

I think he means that he doesn't need some kind of complex backstory or characterisation. If they can make Game and Watch or R.O.B playable, they can make Ridley playable.
Anyone who is curious about potential movesets for Ridley should take a look at this thread on Smashboards: http://smashboards.com/threads/the-ridley-for-ssb4-thread-the-most-wanted-nintendo-newcomer.324284/
The OP has a nice moveset, and I'm sure there are other suggestions if you read further in the thread.

Has Ridley really seen Samus so much that she has a breakdown almost every time she sees him?
Chances of Mewtwo returning?
I'm still not sure if I like the idea of Ridley as a playable character rather than as a boss battle though. Isn't he known mostly for being a recurring boss in the games but never the main villain? I guess I feel the idea of resizing him and balancing his power outage to not be OP as a fighter among many just feels like a bad fate for a character known for being a fearsome boss. In a way, it sort of feels out of character to me.
Eh, he's not that fearsome, in most Metroid games you have such a ridiculous amount of health at the end of the game you can breeze through most of it.

-He killed Samus' parents and is the reason she decided to become a bounty hunter
-She thinks of him above anyone else as her arch-nemesis
-If you're going to add a villain, Kraid is the size of a goddamn skyscraper and mother brain is a brain in a big jar, so Ridley is the obvious choice there
Personally I think every character should also have one of their main villains as a playable character as well.

Some just really wouldn't work, and maybe not everyone, just the particularly popular games, but for the most part I agree.
Chances of Mewtwo returning?
Very high. Fan outrage when he was removed, Lucario is no longer relevant, Mewtwo gains a new form in the most recent games, etc.

How are any of those but the last relevant?
Honestly I would love to see K Rool playable or a boss in some form.
Has Ridley really seen Samus so much that she has a breakdown almost every time she sees him?
Just once, twice if you actually consider half of the things in Other M canon.
Here are my thoughts:
Ridley should be playable. He's probably within the top 3 most requested newcomers and has been since Brawl (Melee?) and Metroid needs a new rep because right now it's only got one (I don't consider ZSS separate from Samus). From what I've seen no other character has the same recurring impact on the series as Ridley.
K. Rool deserves to be in there too. He's one of the most classic Nintendo villains and is also heavily requested. I also personally agree with squids_eye: major series deserve to have a playable villain to go along with the hero. We have it for Mario, Kirby, Star Fox, Zelda, why not for Donkey Kong and Metroid?
Mario series needs a new rep. Bowser Jr., Paper Mario, and possibly even Waluigi are all acceptable options. Jr.'s been in almost every single Mario game since his introduction. Paper Mario could bring many new and interesting gameplay elements to the game and is also the posterboy for a popular subset of the Mario series. Waluigi is least likely as he's only been in spinoffs but he still has popularity going for him.
Dr. Mario should be a costume for Mario. Throw him in there, it couldn't hurt.
For Pokémon, absolutely bring back Mewtwo. Not sure if you need to axe Lucario or not, but axing characters seems like something that people will not react well to. Other than that I don't think a new rep is necessary, unless they wanna throw in the 6th Gen equivalent of Lucario or something. Don't change the Trainer's Pokémon. As much as I'd like to see some new blood, I think the Gen 1 starters are the most important to the series.
Little Mac is a given. He's a fighter, he's a retro Nintendo character, and he had a popular game released since Brawl.
Don't know anything about Fire Emblem, Zelda, or basically any series not currently represented in Smash Bros., so I can't give my opinions on them. Personally I'm not a fan of Toon Link and I would possibly axe him to replace him with, say, a Majora's Mask Young Link who can change forms, but then again I don't know how important Toon Link is to the fanbase so I won't make any conclusions.
Megaman should be the primary 3rd Party character. He's an important figure in Nintendo history and a hugely popular video game character.
Pac-Man? Maybe. We'll see. I don't have thoughts on him.
On a personal side I'd love to see Geno, Sukapon, an Animal Crossing Representative, Banjo-Kazooie, and Waluigi, but I find all of those unlikely
[editline]oh yeah[/editline]
Also, if you ask me, under no circumstances should another Sonic rep be added. Broaden the horizons of which series and companies you represent, don't just throw like Knuckles or something.
How are any of those but the last relevant?
Because Ridley might as well be the main villain, since Samus considers him to be?
I'm hoping we get a new EarthBound/Mother representative. Hopefully Paula or Flint.
Also I would love a stage based on the Chaos Theatre or Happy Happy Village
Because Ridley might as well be the main villain, since Samus considers him to be?
Still don't see how that's relevant to my argument. I'm not arguing that Ridley isn't an important character, I'm arguing that I'm not so sure I'd enjoy seeing a tiny nerfed version of Ridley as playable character rather than as a large powerful boss battle that would do its character and part in the Metroid series more justice.

Come to think of it, there's a slight chance they might add someone from Earthbound, since it got a Virtual Console release on the Wii-U.
If anybody, I feel like they'd add Jeff, since he was an assist trophy in Brawl.
He seems like he'd play like a small, light, faster Snake, what with his bombs, rockets, and ray guns.
Is it wrong for me to want Samus and ZSS to be separate characters? It's so inconvenient to swap between the two during a match that you might as well separate them. Seeing as you can only transform with a Smash Ball, people who don't play with items will never see Samus transform during a match. Sure, you can transform by rocking the D-Pad back and forth, but that's so hard to pull off that it's not even worth it.
I also think that Pokemon Trainers Pokemon should be tweaked so they complement each other better. As it stands, it's too easy to master one and completely ignore the other two. They should be required to work together like a real Pokemon team.

uhm no
You just have to hold a button down while selecting her, the wiggle thing is only in adventure mode, and even then you only have to do it with game cube and classic controllers for some reason, with wii mote and wii mote + nunchuck control schemes, you still just have to hold a button.
That said it's pretty silly that they have the wiggle thing at all.
