Little Mac would be ideal. C'mon nintendo.
I'm not sure what Mac would do besides punching of slightly different sorts.
I want Alis Landale I know it's SEGA but... still
I'm not sure what Mac would do besides punching of slightly different sorts.
Sakurai has a good thing with him when it comes to choosing/making up moves. Plus, Little Mac just really deserves it. He returned from his grave on the Wii, he is a classic Nintendo IP like Game & Watch and Ice Climbers, and he´d just fit right in with the others. Plus there is no actual boxer, unless you count Donkey Kong.
I'm not sure what Mac would do besides punching of slightly different sorts.
What does Marth do other than swing his sword in different ways
I'm not sure what Mac would do besides punching of slightly different sorts.
Sakurai and the team managed to come up with a moveset for a racecar driver and a piece of hardware I'll bet he can come up with something for Mac
I want Alis Landale I know it's SEGA but... still
You'd sooner see something like a Rappy or someone post online series and even then it ain't happening. Even with Sega's own mash up game Sonic racing & Transformed, Phantasy Star didn't get anything besides a achievement reference. Only other mention was a statement from a dev (S0L) that mentioned they opted for the Sonic colors level to be the Space one which eliminated Phantasy Star even getting a stage. (Which is funny because Space has never been a big setting for the whole franchise, sounds like bad reasoning / excuse to me.)
Sakurai and the team managed to come up with a moveset for a racecar driver
Ya mean they managed to find a character with the right physique to recycle animations from when the game was going to be this! Not dismissing your point though, I quite like what they did with the Spacie characters for example. They never fought hand to hand in the games but what they do in Smash Bros seems very in character.
I'm not sure what Mac would do besides punching of slightly different sorts.
Movesets have never been an issue. Sakurai works with what he has and makes things up if needed. Ice Climbers got an entire gimmick based around the fact that their game could be played co-op, and a bunch of ice related moves because their game took place on ice. I imagine Mac's specials would be a Star Uppercut recovery (Complete with star mechanic intact), an Ike style dash where he punches enemies once he gets past them, a Marth style flurry of punches where the first 3 directions (up/down, up/down/middle, up/down/middle, finishing with a boxer's signature punch) determine what the finale punch is, with each of the 10 possible combinations equalling a different punch, and a sort of counter where you you block a hit and give the enemy huge ending lag, enough time for you to get into position for more attacks. See? That's only what I can come up with. Compare pre-reveal Rosalina movesets to what Rosalina actually got. In short, moveset potential, relevance and popularity are not at all important for Smash Bros. Sakurai handles the movesets, and any character added to Smash Bros becomes relevant and popular over night.
Little Mac could also work by having the other big names of the series drop in and out as assists during his moves. Glass Joe can take a hit for you, Bald Bull could deliver a charging heatbutt, Don Flamenco pops in as a counter and hits anyone who touches him back hard, you get the idea. [editline]t[/editline] Hey, I'm not saying it SHOULD work that way. I'm saying it's a possibility.
Ugh, that would just make a bunch of annoying clutter.
I would want Mac to have super fast dodges

The Punch-Out!! games have a very clear mode of play that would easily translate into Smash Bros. In Punch-Out!!, you have to memorize the moveset of your opponent, and learn when you can get in there to deal damage. At a low level of play, you just dodge and punch, but as you get better, you learn how to intercept attacks before they can deal damage and even how to force your opponent to open up by baiting them, then countering. The ability to block punches and dodge is integral to this. So naturally, Little Mac would be all about dodging and weaving, waiting for an opening to get in and attack. A distance-covering side-special like Fox/Ike would allow him to follow up attacks on enemies he's already hit, or to get into position. Being able to block/counter an attack would allow Mac to exploit enemies with predictable attack patterns and letting you get hits in. A mechanic where hitting an enemy hard enough to prevent the rest of an attack animation playing that rewards you with stars (used for the Star Uppercut) would reward players who get in their opponent's faces. When Sakurai can't just translate what a character does into a moveset, he works with what else that character has. Fox is a space fighter pilot, so he uses technology and has two specials dedicated to recovery/traveling distance while dealing damage. Captain Falcon is a bounty hunter whose character design resembles a Sentai character, so he has over-the-top specials and is athletic. There's plenty to work with for Little Mac.
I would want Mac to have super fast dodges
This is just my imagination, but I was thinking maybe a somewhat Steve Fox moveset, kinda. In Tekken, Steve Fox has dodges on two of the buttons that would usually be attack moves, and he can use these in a combination with his other two attack moves. Again, not saying that Little Mac would be exactly like this (especially since Smash Bros and Tekken are really different), but Little Mac´s thing is dodging and quick punches, after all.
Why not have it that Mac took kickboxing lessons for Smash? According to Sakurai, Ness and Lucas having moves they aren't able to use in their own games was from the characters who did know those moves teaching them in preparation for Smash. Perhaps we can have a little montage of Doc training him to "take it to the next level."

With Little Mac, I can´t see him doing big moves with his legs. Unless it is quick, low % attacks.
I always found it dumb that Ness didn't have PK Rock as his Final Smash and Lucas didn't have PK Love for his.
I dunno, I think it could work. A lot of the inter-circuit montages they had in Punch-Out!! Wii had him doing a lot of leg training as well (not least of which is the famous jogging behind the bike that's gone as far back as the NES game.) He's not exactly got twigs down there. Maybe we could expand the Star Punch into an overall super meter-type thing with the reasoning being that Doc had him working on his star power or something ("You're gonna be a star, Mac!") Hell, Doc invented the Star Punch concept in the first place according to the WiiWare tie-in from Club Nintendo.
I'm not sure what Mac would do besides punching of slightly different sorts.
B: Charge Punch Up B: Flying Uppercut Down B: Star Punch (charges up, each hit gets you a star, each star increases the strength/distance of Up B) Side B: Reversal (also dashes forward a bit) Final Smash: Everyone goes pink and fatigued, becomes very susceptible to KOs.
Final Smash: Everyone goes pink and fatigued, becomes very susceptible to KOs.
Or they can always bring Giga Mac. But that would be too much like Giga Bowser...yeah, yours is better.
Hell, he's got a lot of the little Smash gimmicks already going for him in the Wii game. We have different color schemes from his different outfits for each circuit. There's already taunts in the poses Giga Mac can strike in Versus; Giga Mac himself is a potential Final Smash, even. Versus already showed us two different-colored Macs fighting, and he's even already fought [sp]Donkey Kong[/sp] (and not to mention Mario was the ref in the NES game.) Plus he got a brand new, distinct art style in that game that would help him stand out as a Smash character. A recent game and already having been an assist trophy in Brawl, and he's practically a shoo-in already. And they've got plenty of room to make him fit with plausible things like taking up kickboxing or a Star Meter. My only worry is if Sakurai doesn't use the Wii game much for inspiration due to it being an Western-made game and went for his more generic incarnation from Brawl.
I always found it dumb that Ness didn't have PK Rock as his Final Smash and Lucas didn't have PK Love for his.
Lucas had Love as his Up+A.

I wonder what's on TV in the pic...
I'm as confused as him. So we'll be fighting on the carpet near a giant puppy? The fighters must be really small. Kinda reminds me of the SMB64 intro, where the fighter are actually dolls. They never really deviated from that idea, since Melee and Brawl, they were trophies. Tiny fighters. :)
