i wouldn't go far as to say i'm excited (haven't played any of the punch-out games, although i might pick up the wii one now), but it's nice to see him in as he deserves it

Called it about the Star Punch meter, too: Sakurai said that when that meter above his icon fills, his standard B move turns into a one-hit K.O. No information as to [i]how[/i] it fills yet, but considering it looks more like the one from Super Punch-Out!! rather than the three-star system of the NES or Wii versions, I'd say it works similar to that.
Still, nice to see he's still rocking his NLG look instead of going back to the generic model from Brawl; I was worried they'd do that. I also [i]really[/i] like the comic book motif from the trailer.

Well, there's precedent for the taunting if that happens. Giga Mac built up his Star Meter in multiplayer by taunting and striking poses without letting the other player hit him.
Star Meter apparently rises as you deal hits, and lowers as you take them. So it's Super Punch Out (SNES) inspired.
I'm pretty hype about this. Gonna play some Punch Out NES to celebrate, just took out Piston Hondo (world circuit) in one punch after trying to find when I can punch him before his combo barrages.
It looks like it might need to be charged.

Really, it looks like the charge time and limited range are what's gonna end up balancing out this K.O. Uppercut.
Yeah, it'll definitely be situational. Still, Punch Out is all about setting up scenarios where you can land star uppercuts for instant knockouts, so it fits.
Kind of wish Little Mac's final smash involved bringing in another fighter like King Hippo or even Super Macho Man and having them work with him. It'd be a nice nod to fans, but the Giga Mac smash works too. Guess we can look forward to trophies in that regard.

Considering that Mac needs to [I]do[/I] things in order to build up a meter, it's perfectly justified to give him something like that since he's still working for it.
Not to mention that it's probably incredibly short-ranged and easy to see coming if you're not oblivious.
Re-watching the trailer, it looks like he has a number of moves that give him super armor so he can tank a hit or two while he rushes his opponent down with a flurry of punches.
Every character should wear boxing gloves when playing against little mac to make it a clean fight.
