Yeah Hyrule Castle, Congo Jungle and Peach's Castle are all great levels. Don't know why they put Yoshis Island and Dream Land in Melee though, Dream land is just battlefield with wind and Yoshis island is just a weird, misshapen battlefield.
They really need to bring back Metal Mario's stage from 64. That thing was the best. [editline]10th June 2013[/editline] Also, I've mentioned this in a couple other threads, but we're probably going to host a Hangout in the FP Nintendo Google+ group tomorrow. We might not have E3 crowd reactions, but this'll be the next best thing. Come and join in if you can!
They made Yoshi's Island like, three times bigger from 64 to Melee. I think some characters actually can't recover from the one cloud way off to the right because it's so ridiculously far away from the main part of the stage... :pwn:
It's 10 AM EST that the Nintendo Direct vid comes out, am I right? Also, is it Youtube only or will Twitch be streaming it?
I just hope that Phosphora (can't see Lady Palutena working in smash) and Lucina (Fire Emblem needs a rep for all the badass woman it has) get in.
I just hope that Phosphora (can't see Lady Palutena working in smash) and Lucina (Fire Emblem needs a rep for all the badass woman it has) get in.
I am assuming you never saw the animated short where Lady Palutena fights hordes of demonic veggies then. She seems to be a solid fighter from that.
I hope they bring back Yoshi's Island from Brawl, that stage was gorgeous and fairly simple in design. The one based on SMW2, not the Melee stage, mind you.
I hope they make Yoshi less useless of a character. :/
Does anyone else think Samus is a lesbian? Because I do.
Does anyone else think Samus is a lesbian? Because I do.
Wasn't she in love with that Adam dude
Wasn't she in love with that Adam dude
I think that was more father-daughter than romantic attraction, and Other M never happened.
I hope they make Yoshi less useless of a character. :/
Make him like Melee again, he was fantastic in melee.
I really really hope Mr. Game and Watch returns. He is one of my personal favorites. There's really not a reason he wouldn't, though.
Make him like Melee again, he was fantastic in melee.
He was ranked 21st on the MBR 2010 NTSC tier list. That's really freaking bad. It's the totally ridiculous Yoshi mains who are fantastic.
All I want is King K. Rool as a playable character.
6 Hours left guys! The suspense is killing me
I really really hope Mr. Game and Watch returns. He is one of my personal favorites. There's really not a reason he wouldn't, though.
i'll be really pissed if they don't keep him in. he's like the only character i'm actually good at
Here are the Brawl characters who I can easily see being removed: Ike: He was in Brawl because his games were the newest, he's likely to be replaced by an Awakening character Lucario: Like Ike, he was new at the time. Wolf: A clone of a clone of a clone, and no-one really wanted 3 StarFox characters. Toon Link: Young Link got axed and replaced with Young Link But Now He Has An Outline, I wouldn't be surprised if they replaced Toony with yet another Link. Otherwise? I would debate that they could easily all stay.
Does anyone else think Samus is a lesbian? Because I do.
thats just because you want everyone to be lesbian
Am i the only one who wants Nintendo to bring all the characters back? Like why would you want them to remove characters? The bigger the roster the better? Right?
Am i the only one who wants Nintendo to bring all the characters back? Like why would you want them to remove characters? The bigger the roster the better? Right?
Eh, seems like that might make the game suffer if they focus on quantity rather then quality. I'd rather they make a solid-but-not-especially-huge cast of characters free of any clones, then release SpotPass content for other characters.
thats just because you want everyone to be lesbian
No [sp]Yes[/sp]
Just over 5 and a half hours. It's coming, guys. [sp]so am i[/sp]

Personally I think the air dodge in brawl is a better system than melee. It makes more sense that you just kind of get out of the way but keep falling the way you were falling, rather than magically floating in a certain direction.
Wolf: A clone of a clone of a clone, and no-one really wanted 3 StarFox characters.
I see a lot of people debating that this character isn't a clone and is completely different, and I disagree. He's a semi-clone, like Luigi. He's less of a clone than Falco, but all his special moves are still alternative versions of Fox, and he also shares the same final smash. I would have felt more alright if Falco were turned unique enough to be a semi-clone since he's been around longer, instead brawl made me feel that we now have 3 starfox characters that are only vaguely different. I'm not saying they were wrong to change it, only that it's a change I personally didn't enjoy.
It might be a bit more realistic, but it still feels less fun to me. I'm not saying they were wrong to change it, only that it's a change I personally didn't enjoy.
I'm rather certain that the change was made after they evaluated airdodging and realized that Melee-style airdodging caused helplessness like after using a recovery move. They potentially had testers who would accidentally get themselves into shit when they were only trying to avoid damage. Now, you could definitely argue that some sort of skill barrier and depth to the game is good; I definitely wouldn't be disagreeing with you. But remember that when designing brawl, they wanted things to be more level between first-timers and veteran players. Now, I can definitely see why they wanted to remove some things that Melee had. Such as wavedashing and L-Cancelling. They wanted for the mechanics of the game to be intuitive to learn, and mastery of these intuitive mechanics will come with time. In being intuitive, it allows for entry-level players to be capable of learning what tools they need to use without needing to go to outside sources. If you want to compete in Melee, you pretty much have to learn a lot of these movement and lag-cancelling tricks in order to perform well against players that do know these mechanics; but you have nothing teaching you these mechanics unless you actively seek them out online or stumble across them by accident. Now I know I'm opening a can of worms if I say this, but I'll go out on a limb; a lot of the Melee mechanics that have become a huge part of the competitive metagame are on par with exploits. They are exploits that the players have embraced as being helpful to their play without completely breaking things; when these exploits were officially removed in the sequel, a lot of players lashed out about how it's not a true sequel in their eyes. I'll cut myself off before I start rambling. I think Brawl's a damn well-designed game that built upon its predecessor. It's just a few changes were rather questionable, like tripping, altering how airdodging worked, some of the character nerfs and moveset changes, the floaty physics, and making grabbing ledges way way easier. They tried to make it a more intuitive game but the delivery was a bit flat; I'll give them points for having the right mindset but poor execution.
the skill ceiling is still pretty damn high though, you just don't need to exploit the shit out of the movement system to succeed
But remember that when designing brawl, they wanted things to be more level between first-timers and veteran players.
I really hated this direction. It felt like their way of doing this was to introduce a whole lot of elements that made outcomes rely more on chance, as well as making all characters more clumsy and slow so that good players can't outmaneuver bad players as easily. If you want veterans to be on the same level as first-timers, just let them use the fucking handicap function like it was made for in the first place. [editline]11th June 2013[/editline] I can agree that they were in the right to remove many of the things you could consider exploits, but it's majorly the drastic changes in character mobility and random mechanics like tripping that made this game a lot less fun to play with my friends than melee.
I am assuming you never saw the animated short where Lady Palutena fights hordes of demonic veggies then. She seems to be a solid fighter from that.
Sorry, I don't take her actions in a non canon anime short as an indication of her fighting abilities. Also the short wasn't made with 3d models so it's of course easier to make her look like a fighter. To be honest I would be really happy if she were in but at the moment I don't see how it would work.
It's 10 AM EST that the Nintendo Direct vid comes out, am I right? Also, is it Youtube only or will Twitch be streaming it?
I think Twitch should be streaming it. I'm gonna be watching it on Ustream though, cause Twitch.tv is blocked at my school.
