I don't even get it when Ness is from the older game and was demoted to hidden character
Same reason as Captain Falcon: Hidden in the original, so derp.
Unlocking Jigglypuff after beating 1P mode for the first time is a far better tradition, SPECIALLY if Jigglypuff works well as a character if work is put onto it.
Nintendo should prioritize their Western/European fanbases, as those are their largest fanbases.
There are genres that are almost exclusively popular in Japan and nowhere else, but there are also genres that almost never do well in Japan
But because Japan has such a small population compared to the west it's normally just safer to appeal to them, which is a shame because there's a lot of really good stuff that will never leave Japan because the market just doesn't exist
It would probably be possible to make a market for them though like they did with RPGs if they just push them enough, even niche games can become profitable over time
Sometimes it's just down to weirdness for Nintendo. There is actually 0 reason Western Earthbound fans don't have Mother 3 on the 3DS E-Shop, it would cost them nothing more than whatever it takes to upload the rom onto the e-shop. I mean, it was professionally translated for free for fuck's sake.
Could be the fact that the game traumatizes you within the first ten minutes and there's a scene with implied molestation of the ten year old protagonist by a transvestite fairy played for laughs

That's somewhat arrogant. Nintendo have no obligation to pander to foreign countries when they are based in Japan.

While that's true, they also have to be sure not to completely alienate those regions or else they won't make any money.

But they aren't. I mean they just announced Little Mac as a newcomer and even without that they aren't really doing anything in particular to completely alienate the western audience.
Not to mention ThatSwordGuy suggested that they outright prioritise western countries over their own, not merely take them into consideration.

How about at least a new Mother assist trophy or two?

Preferably with a few less spoilers than Brawl had?
I mean, going by Brawl's track record, they'd have [sp]New Fassad[/sp] or [sp]Masked Man[/sp]
Starman Super trophy, has a 1/128 change of dropping the sword of kings, which works like the beam sword but hilariously overpowered
we're not getting a new mother representative and as long as we keep the ones we already have that's fine with me
i'd vastly prefer underloved series that don't already have huge amounts of representation in smash to get characters. who cares if a character is from a japan only game? when marth and roy appeared in melee they were so popular that they started bringing over the FE games. who cares if they're older characters or not as well known? plenty of people started playing franchises because a character appeared from that franchise, plenty of people started playing punch-out to see why little mac is a big deal. and for franchises like kid icarus or earthbound, it pretty much resuscitated them, EB owes it's fanbase to smash 64 and ness, kid icarus wouldn't have gotten a 3ds game if pit's appearance in brawl brought attention to his franchise
seriously, trying to use reasons like "Japan only character" or "not relevant" is retarded as shit, smash isn't just about putting franchises people already love in a fighting game, it's also about introducing people to ones they weren't aware of.
Smash introduced me to Earthbound. I didn't have any fun with Earthbound.

If you're looking for blood and tits you came to the wrong place but if you want a charming world, an immersive adventure and funny dialogue this is for you. It's not necessarily fun, but it's still enjoyable.

excuse me

what
mechanically, EarthBound is boring as bat shit, but the world, characters and story more than make up for it.
Now that Donkey Kong is big again, I hope we see some more remixes from his games.
I want Cranky Kong to be an assist trophy where he bounces around the stage on his cane like in Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

I hope David Wise contributes some arrangements. Brawl had a lot of composers remixing each other's stuff, so getting him into the mix would be great.
If you guys could have one character that represents the 3DS, who would it be? And by represent the 3DS, I mean it would be a character from a non-mainstream Nintendo game. So say, Fire Emblem characters wouldn't count.
Me? I'd go with Dillon, though I'm sure there are some other decent candidates.
I wish they'd have a way to disable/enable some assist trophies like you can with stages
I never got dijons rolling mustard, it didn't look like a very good game to me

Mother 3 has rhythm elements though. It makes it much more fun.

What other candidates can you think of? Other than that Harmoknight game I can't think of any 3DS reps that aren't Dillon.
TBH usually you don't get reps that were introduced the same gen they were added. And there's pretty much no way an eShop title is gonna get a playable character.

Pic of the day. There are actually two versions of the boxing ring stage! This ring is the Smash Bros. version…
…and this one is the Punch Out!! W.V.B.A. design. King Dedede really likes fighting in the ring, doesn't he?
So will there actually be two Boxing Stages in Stage Select?
Or will it be like Mushroomy Kingdom where holding a button changes the level?
So will there actually be two Boxing Stages in Stage Select?

I'm willing to bet it's like Mushroomy Kingdom
I like little secrets like that, such as holding a button combination in Melee would cause the stage to play different music.
Or it might be random, or alternate every time you select the stage.
It's a very, very small cosmetic thing, the most I think we can expect is hold minus to force the World Circuit design.
I wonder what other non Punch-Out!! music will be on the stage. Dedede's theme remix maybe? Other Nintendo 'fighting' games like Urban Champion?
