well I'm a fan and I couldn't give less of a shit if waluigi was playable or not, but I understand the fuss they're making about it, but shit's just childish

Waluigi's model looks real bad imo. I think most of the characters look good (Diddy and Donkey Kong clash real badly) but Waluigi's got his fingers glued together and his body looks jaggy as hell. His face is literally the only thing that looks alright to me.

His face is literally the only thing that looks alright to me.[/QUOTE] Considering that I didn't notice that (mostly the hands) when I was looking for signs of a low quality model, I'd say it does just fine for a guy who only shows up on screen for a few seconds and is meant to be lower poly to make sure it doesn't affect the frame rate. His high-poly face draws the eye and distracts you from the less refined parts, I'd say.

Next up Goku and Cloud Strife get turned into assist trophies.

Honestly, what pisses me off more than anything, is that they haven't just done a skin/costume option. In other words, make Waluigi a Luigi skin and K Rool. a Dedede skin or something.

I'm probably in the minority on this board, but I'm glad Waluigi stayed as an assist trophy. I was kinda hoping I'd get in here in time for some Mother rep talk but it seems I was too late.

You shouldn't really be applying the same level of detail and polish to an assist trophy as you do a playable character.

I dunno, the textures on his body look well enough to compliment the model. The hands though, eww. Even if I expected that to be the case it's just uuughghghgghhg

The way I see Mario reps being put in is based on what role they put in Toad - THe Last Playable character in the main Mario games (Super Mario Brothers, 2, 3, NSMBW,NSMBWU) and other titles that isn't playable in SSB. He is the only playable character left that hasn't been included and his entire moveset could be used for anything not represented from Mario items already. At this point it even makes better sense have Toadsworth be Peach's replacement considering he is her advisor and always follows her around now in most games since Sunshine. Bowser Jr. - Arguably is now one of the most frequent Mario villains and has appear in most nearly all the main games. He is the next biggest recognizable Mario character to be put in considering how often he is apart of the games now. Paper Mario - I don't rank him in third importance to Toad or Bowser Jr. Paper Mario is own his series pretty much like how Donkey Kong, Wario, and Yoshi are treated as. He belongs in smash as representing his own series unless one day Nintendo decides to start throwing him into Mario Kart and Mario Party games as a selectable character or they throw away the paper series in favor for just the regular Mario and Luigi RPGs. I don't see Paper Mario as being a 6th rep for the Mario series and hope Sakurai sees it that way too like he does with Yoshi, DK, and Wario. After Toad and Bowser Jr. I would say the Mario series would feel complete in representation just like DK would be once we get both Dixie Kong and King K. Rool. Any other characters would be purely for expansion. Instead of working towards completing the series representation, we get Rosolina who's here for promotional purposes by Nintendo. She is certainly unique but its not like shes the only character who can be designed uniquely either. King Boo would certainly be unique using his ghostly abilities to go invisible. But King Boo also isn't that important to the franchise he comes from. Waluigi, Daisy, Rosalina, King Boo, Petey Piranaha, E.Gadd, Koopa Kids, etc all are characters that don't exactly top the charts in importance in the franchises they come from, often because they aren't ever used in a serious game that isn't a spin off (Waluigi, Daisy), aren't exactly more important than another character (Petey Piranaha, King Boo, Koopa Kids), or haven't had enough screen time(Rosalina). That was basically the belief system of most people who thought what would be the next Mario next comer until Nintendo jumped in and threw in Rosalina to be used a promotional character.

Unfortunate, but not surprising. I read somewhere that both Nintendo and the Japanese audience in general really don't like Waluigi. Nintendo because he originated in a sports game to fill another slot and therefore was "carelessly" added into the Mario character roster and the audience finds his appearance and demeanor uninteresting, where the western audience finds his comical failure/ugly looks/mean personality funny and they really don't. Just something I read somewhere.

Next up: Mario is now an assist trophy! He was just a clone of Luigi anyway, so we figured Nintendo's mascot would be better off giving support on the sidelines. Look out for his lethal FLUDD attack!

Either playable, boss (if they are back) or stage hazard. Or just a mere trophy, but that's be quite degrading to the most recurring character in the franchise, Samus nonwithstanding. And I'm getting a bit worried about Meta Knight. Not appearing in the latest Kirby game and all that... A shame, I really like his playstyle both in Smash and Kirby games...
