So are people going to actually have fun with this and not play this competitively, or are we going to have another EVO 2008?
I'm going to not give a shit and play it with my friends. Like 99% of people.

Comp players can and will do whatever they want, doesn't affect me.

I might even *gasp* use items.
Haven't had a stage reveal in a while, so have at it!

Pic of the day. The Prism Tower rises above Lumiose City. Up until a few seconds ago, the fighters were brawling on top of that tower. No, really.

Another Delfino-esque "platform takes you to different parts of the city" stage?

people are going to play the way they want to instead of autistically worrying about how other people are playing
like fuck half the time competitive play is only brought up to attack it because so many of you fuckers can't resist beating a dead horse, cut that shit out already

We had the Animal Crossing stage revealed last week, don't know where you got the idea that we "Haven't had a stage reveal in a while" from.
We've been getting some good reveals recently though, Daily Pics have really kicked into overdrive. We used to just get pictures commented with 'Pic of the day', now we regularly get mechanics explained or little touches investigated or new content revealed. It's nice.

Starting to get worried that splitting the stages in half for each version is negatively effecting the game if that's the case. There's not any real landmarks in Lumoise so I don't even get how a floating platform taking you all over the place would be interesting.
Really really need stage hazards sakurai, I don't think any of the stages have had any really.

I guess they're at a point in development where most of the art assets are finalized, so they're suddenly able to show them all off.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the competitive side of this game, I think it's going to be even better than melee. Despite what communities like smashboards would have you believe, Brawl had some great competitive aspects to it, it was just a few little problems that bogged it down, I think the fact that they're aiming for a middleground, that can be played both casually and competitively is a very good sign.
In my opinion, the best kind of competitive game is one where extensive knowledge of the mechanics will help, but there's nothing you could only know by looking into it from sources outside of the game. If they're going to make it easily approachable but still retain that high skill ceiling, it'll be the perfect Super Smash Bros game.

Yeah, Smash is made to be easily accessible and I feel that aspect should be carried over to competitive play. The difference between a novice player and a skilled player should be how well they play; all the information they need should be available in the game itself, whether it be hitbox information or advanced techniques being demonstrated by AI/a tutorial. I'd be fine with research online being necessary in another fighting game but Smash is designed to be as easy to get into as possible, so having any element of the game hidden just seems counter-intuitive.
Out of curiosity, I checked up on how many "tour" stages we have now. Wii U has Skyloft and Pilotwings, and 3DS has Rainbow Road and Lumiose City.
Skyloft and Lumiose City are looking to be like Delfino Plaza while Rainbow Road is more akin to Mute City. Pilotwings is like Halberd because you have to board the stage at the start and rarely land afterwards. (I don't even think we've seen Pilotwings land after taking off, so this one might not be as bad as the others.)
It seems like a lot, but keep in mind it's only two tour stages per game. Brawl had Delfino Plaza, Port Town, and Halberd. I think we're doing well so far. Let's just hope this will be the last of them.
Note: I didn't count scrolling stages like Mario 3D Land because you're not just standing on a platform, waiting to be taken somewhere.
i had a feeling this would be the 3ds stage for pokemon i wonder if it has both daytime and nighttime

Except we've known about that stage for a while because of that picture of DK posing next to Kap'n. His statement is right.
I wanna see more Wii U stages ;_;
I like no random factors when I play with my really good friends, we just go no item final destination as always
however if other people are over we'll thrown in the items. Really it's just a difference of items on and off.
When I got project M, I didn't notice much except lack of tripping, faster falling and less knockback, as well as getting a little "stunned" after being hit by an attack.
stock brawl is more like DBZ fighting, you rush at each other and one person makes the hit and knocks the other away. There is skill in this, it's all about the dodging. Project M relies more on combos, which can just make the other player helpless to someone with more combo knowledge.
You can be just as competitive in stock brawl, it's just more based on reactions and timing rather than combo knowledge like in project M. Really don't prefer one over the other.
Having played a fair bit of project m now, I utterly utterly disagree
I'm not going to threadshit by turning it into a big old argument, so I'll leave it there
I am really hoping this guy shows up in the new smash as at least a trophy.

I was hoping that he'd be a playable character but things aren't looking that way
I wanna see more Wii U stages ;_;
wasn't this smash bros originally going to be a 3DS exclusive?
I was hoping that he'd be a playable character but things aren't looking that way
Layton as a character would be the coolest shit though.
Layton as a character would be the coolest shit though.
I think it'd feel weird. Layton feels more like a noncombatant character to me. It'd be like seeing Parappa in...

Oh, right. That actually happened.
Layton as a character would be the coolest shit though.
Him and Phoenix Wright would be my mains. If both of them made it in, they'd be the only characters I would ever use.
[sp]Ok not REALLY, but still.[/sp]
wasn't this smash bros originally going to be a 3DS exclusive?
It was announced as Wii U/3DS.
Even if that was possible, that would've been an absolutely stupid idea.

Doesn't Parappa get taught martial arts in the first game though?
It was announced as Wii U/3DS.

We all know what it was announced as, he's talking about how it was going to be 3DS only in the planning stages.

They considered the idea of it being 3DS only and decided against it.

It's a shame the only fighting game with Phoenix in it happens to be an imbalanced mess. Plus I'm forced to use 2 characters who aren't Phoenix :v:
wiiu stages look crazy uninteresting
you'd think they'd make the wiiu version have more of a hook to get people to buy the damn thing

We only have a few stages shown so far.
Remember how many stages Brawl has. They're probably saving the super interesting ones for last or not revealing at all
I am really hoping this guy shows up in the new smash as at least a trophy.
Says "This reminds me of a puzzle!" and causes a giant sliding tile puzzle to appear on the screen that makes all your enemies commit suicide.

I'd say that doesn't really matter
To be fair WFT's main thing is exercising and getting fit, it's not farfetched for her to be able to fight.
i like imagine wii fit trainer gets so involved in her exercise routine that she doesn't notice all the people dropping dead around her
That a character isn't from a game where they're seen fighting anything is a non issue.
However what I could imagine being an issue with designing one of these characters, is if he doesn't have a lot of other iconic moves that can be used as inspiration. (Cpt. Falcon circumvented this, but his franchise and his character are extremely iconic to Nintendo)
