I love fighting games which is why I love SSB :v:
Also, if it weren't for the competitive scene, hilarious and awesome stuff like this wouldn't happen nearly as often:

The main reason that's so hilarious is because of the stakes of competitive play. When you take that away, far more hilarious and awesome things happen with items on than without.
I like video games, that's why I love the Smash Bros games.
Also I'm hoping the fireworks cannon comes back, my friends panic when one of those spawn because I go apeshit with them and usually wind up killing them a few times with it :v:
4 players, fans, Pokeballs, and Assist Trophies only.
I don't much like playing Smash competitively but it's more rewarding to play the game without items on because you know you can beat your opponent without staking it on the luck of getting items to help you win the game.
And a lot of Final Smashes are really overpowered, then there are some that really, really suck.
For example, Ike can snatch up all three opponents at once and probably KO them with it.
Sonic's is extremely hard to avoid, same with Pikachu's.
Pit's does absolutely fucking nothing.

Then you have Wario's final smash, a final smash so powerful that you can destroy yourself by accident very easily with hilarious results. Best final smash hands down.
Some items in smash are just fucking terrible, I can totally understand disabling them.
Mainly the fan. When one of those spawns the match becomes "Oh, I guess everything is going to grind to a screeching halt for a full fucking minute".

My favorite thing to do as Wario Man is smash an enemy up into the air, then just slowly clap levitate at them until they die
Wario's Up A is one of my favorite attacks in Smash

The fan is a weapon for jerks. nothing sucks worse than getting perma-stun locked by one of those. I always take it upon myself to throw that stupid thing off the map.

This is the best way to get KOs as warioman, just spam those incredible aerials.

You can get out of a fan pretty easily actually. Just have to move towards your opponent instead of away.
A. I really don't understand the hype behind it.
B. While I don't mind that a competitive scene exists, a lot of competitive fans/players come off as such smug, insufferable fools that it ruins the whole thought for me.
Pretty much my stance. Especially when you have these high-and-mighty cliques like the Smash Back Room. For those not in the know, the SBR is a secret society of a few particular competitive Melee players who have their own private board on Smashboards that no one else is allowed to know what goes on in, but every now and then they emerge from their hideout and parade around some supposed authority, announcing tier lists and acting like their word is above Sakurai's. Really nasty pieces of work, they are, with egos larger than Seto Kaiba.
I'd say not to confuse them with the Project M Back Room - who seem more benign and friendly - though not only is there the name similarity, but both are competitive-focused groups and both are so notoriously insular and secretive that I'm half-convinced that the PMBR is just the SBR after acquiring modding skills. Hell, half my disdain for the mod comes from the thought that the SBR is possibly getting any sort of fame or media attention to feed their self-importance. Though to their credit, despite all the shrieking chimps out there who are glorifying Project M as the real third Smash game and that the PMBR are better devs than Sakurai himself, the PMBR seem to actually have at least an ounce of humility in that they're adamant that Project M is just an optional mod for people who want it, which is a very un-SBR thing to do. SBR would be encouraging that sentiment and deriding anyone who still played vanilla Brawl over their "masterpiece"; they're basically an entire group of David Sirlin clones.
And for the record, I just... really don't like traditional fighting games, either. They bore me. Competitive players always seem to want to make Smash more like traditional fighters. To me it's always felt more like a platformer where the player characters just attack each other instead.
Well this is happening:

I wonder if this means we might get a Yoshi announcement sometime this week.

no this means spongebob will be announced
Spongebob would fit my playstyle nicely. He'd probably revolutionize the pro-scene.
Spongebob brings nautical nonsense to the fight!

Is feeling it now!

What did you say, punk?
Dirty Dan alt skin
Psh, Sandy was obviously made for Smash. Look at her Karate!
If there are lots of alternative costumes in Super Smash Bros 4, I hope they include today's Green Tunic Sonic as one of them.

there's a subset of people like that in pretty much every competitive game. it's basically inevitable. you probably just associate that attitude with the whole competitive smash community because they're the loudest. not all of them are like that.
and most of the anti-comp people on facepunch come off as equally obnoxious but we don't shit on playing the game normally
Competitive folks on FP are pretty fair about it. Any of the super serious "comp was the only intended way to play the game GET IT RIGHT" people that created the stereotype are too busy on other Smash-dedicated forums to come debate here.
This gives us filthy casuals enough breathing room to complain about competitive Smash Bros. without much fear of retribution.

That's a very fair point. I'll keep that in mind next time I read a particularly annoying anti-casual post on a forum.

Have you met a competitive Smash player? Watched comp matches? Watched the documentary?
There is a back room for each game. They exist to study the game, and the only reason it's closed off from the whole forum is because Smashboards is filled to the brim with idiots. the back rooms are for people who already show some understanding of the game, not for people who want to learn how to wavedash properly. The MBR in particular has a lot of members, most of which are respectful, kind people.
You know, I used to agree with you. A lot of competitive Smash players are absolute douchebags. However, viewing this thread, I'd say you guys really aren't too different. You're blindly hating the BRs and the PMBR based on misconceptions and a clear lack of knowledge on the subject.
I'm not trying to be rude. I'm just sick of people bashing the competitive community in this thread, especially considering no one comes in here and says "casual play is fucking dumb do it right", and honestly it was rarely ever said in the first place. Go ahead and play Smash however you want, nobody really cares and if anybody gives you shit for not playing it "right", they're probably shit anyway. Just stop hating competitive Smash for no reason.

here's an example of a cool competitive player explaining some stuff about the game
I don't think I've seen any playerbase of a game react as hostile as the Smash playerbase does to its competitive scene.
I think both ways of play are fun, though I do have a natural inclination towards the more competitive side of things (RNG in games, no matter the context, stinks).
Damn, I feel dumb for posting whatever shit earlier. I ran on brainfart and without thinking.
I like to watch comp stuff, trying to figure out stuff I didn't know about X character but anything too competitive without a bit of nice atmosphere ends up with me getting mad. I got my own shitty feelings in the way without thinking straight. Went with the stupid flow.
I guess I'm more of a spectator then a participant. Even sometimes, I try to learn some of the more advanced movement just because curiosity gets a hold of me (thanks Y'all for the Cosmo video btw).
Again sorry about my dumb post earlier. Won't happen again.
While things are still on the side of "begrudgingly civil" I'd like to say that there's really no point in arguing over it. We still like Smash Bros., we still like Nintendo, and that's really all that should matter. In an ideal world, we'd all be able to talk about the things we love without having others coming out and saying why they hate those things. I regret involving myself earlier and hope we can all get along in the future.
Now, for more important matters:

How about an Assist Trophy? When summoned, he tries to grab whoever's closest. If someone is grabbed, he then holds them in place and offers different housing options.

I think it's because the competitive community has been incredibly toxic compared to other communities in the past, though it's not really any worse than other games now a days.
